First #FE (SMTxFE) live gameplay on Treehouse Stream

I was very confused when I saw the first trailer and didn't know if I liked it or loathed it. After seeing the gameplay I can say that I liked it. I won't recommend it to any friends though because they're deathly allergic to anything like this.

I'm over the whole very little SMT in it thing. It may have been better for them to have not called it SMT x FE with that reveal trailer in the beginning though. Would have saved a lot of reactions.

I dont want j-pop and bewbs in mah games. I want GRIMDARK DEMONS AND FIRE EMBLEM WITHOUT LOLIs. /s

lol.

I take it you're not familiar with Fire Emblem and have never played a game in the series?

He's joking, I think.

It's such a shame that otaku pandering has taken over so much in videogames lately :( .First fire emblem if and now this ... I can't wait for this trend to die.

I disagree.

I missed this, but from the replies in this thread, this must have really exceeded expectation.

I was really skeptical about this game after seeing all the idol stuff now that I've seen gameplay I'm really liking it. They did a good job combining the two gameplay styles and I can't wait to play it once its out in 2016.

Oh wow, they released a shitty ios port of the first game last year.

What was shitty about the port? Outside of some text glitches I don't remember hearing anything bad about it. I thought it was the definitive version since it's based off of the GBA version and has the PSX soundtrack. Also added new features like Demon Compendium which wasn't present in any other release.

Well I guess all of the "Wait for the gameplay before judging, the trailers probably don't do the game justice!" people don;t have a leg to stand on.

Sigh, are the otaku really that profitable?
A little late, but seriously, where on earth does this come from?

I googled it and everything I saw, even on the SMT wiki, was saying that the controls were bad.

Basically, it looks like a good "game". I think that much is clear. People will always debate over the themes and premise, but that's fine.
Pretty much. Honestly this is close to how the FE series is now with Fates where you can marry your waifu and rub your partners with a stylus.
Honestly I think this game at least beats Fates because I cannot rub my characters in this game (at least that I know).

Yeah no clue, I got the port like 2 weeks ago when I got my iphone, and it's actually pretty well done so far. What text glitch is there? I don't even think I've seen anything like that and I'm like 12 hours in.

Hmm, maybe the people complaining about the controls hate touch controls in general then?

The SMT Wiki, a primary source on opinions.

I would assume people that actually take the time to update a game specific wiki would be the type to like almost anything in the series of whatever wiki they're editing.

Hey we still don't know what's on the gamepad screen. :P

Man, this looks insanely good. This is such a cool product, and I hope people give it a chance despite any prejudice they might have against the tone.

Internally developed Atlus games are rarely bad. I wish the atmosphere was closer to SMT/FE but the gameplay looks killer. They need to show more of this and less anime people talking and dancing.

yes title and character designs

people from that reasonably expected that the game would look like those character designs and likely use characters from both universes. (they really should have just announced this clearly as a cross between the companies instead of the franchises.)

instead we got an idol simulation game with neither game seemingly present in the trailer.

You are acting like people blew their expectations way out of the water, but from the original trailers an expectation of this game looking/feeling like a cross between a main line SMT game and a main line FE games is completely reasonable as that is what they showed. I don't get this need to defend atlus by saying they never lied or people made up expectations, atlus clearly set up certain expectations and failed to remotely get to them. they screwed up there. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if the original idea was vastly different from what we are getting.

like i said though, this looks fun, far different than the original announcement trailer implied but fun. but I can't blame people for being annoyed towards this.

I don't mind people being dissapointed if this isn't what they wanted. That is perfectly fine. i even consider the JPOP overload a bit silly (although the context of them all being people interested in the music/entertainment industry actually has it making some sense). The tone is clearly different too, so hoping for a more gritty/dark game was fine too.

But this is what we got, and I am more than impressed (so far) with the combat, visuals, nods to both series, and most of all the desire to make this it's own game with a totally different story rather than propping itself up soley by either series. You may ask "why not make it a new IP" and I say that most people wouldn't be looking at it at all now if they had. Which is a shame but its also reality.

I definitively feel like its much more emphasised nowadays and many feel the same.

No, the difference today is, more of that stuff is localized for you to noticed. But they've always been there

Thank God. That's my first complaint resolved. I might just be able to play this game then.

Based off what they were saying, all the actors/characters sing their song... So on that 2nd trailer, you'd have to avoid Tiki's songs XD

Well, I think most could do without the 10000 year old lolis at least :-P

I'm just being sarcastic XD should have probably used "NO WAIFUS" but eh, its more of the old fans getting mad that their series would die out without "pandering" since sales show that its probably pandering what saved the series. "Well it should die in that case.. STOP LIKING WHAT I DONT LIKE more or less is some arguements.

What if the costumes change depending on the genre of music? Also, needs more Hip Hop.

I'd probably dump the idols into the trash for the other genres of music. But that's assuming there are other genres of music at all and it doesn't do anything about the ginormous racks and obvious jiggle, heh

I definitively feel like its much more emphasised nowadays and many feel the same.

Because it definitely is. The magnitude is definitely larger and the frequency has increased. Pun intended.

Seriously though, it's pretty noticeable even when you go to Japan and the nature of places like Akihabara, heh.

Haven't played much Persona or SMT besides the DS games; but I definitely like what I see. Where's the Green Cavalier that always shows up in Fire Emblem next to the Red Cavalier? :P

i've never asked for this, i wanted an HD SMT on a console, but it will not happen :(

If this was Persona 1 or 2 style, i would be really happy, but it's not that either.

hopefully SMT5 comes to the PS4, after this E3 i believe in everything!!

Doesn't seem to be an Abel in the protaganists.

So far It's Chrom/Caeda/Cain/Lyn/and the archer.

JRPGs generally always had some otaku pandering. It just that the otakus of old tastes were very much like your own...

SMT and FE took a shitton from the anime of whatever era they came out in..and since both started in the 80's...there you go.

Anime has changed and for better or for worse, these two franchises changed to keep up with those changing audiences.

Like it or not, this makes sense as those very same otakus many of GAF seems to hate are the same motherfuckers buying the games, the merchandise, and basically keeping these franchises alive. So sorry yeah this is where these games will go...as awesome as a dark and gritty and super serial JRPG would be...it just is not smart business really as that audience is even more niche that this sketchy stuff.

Look i get it and while my tolerance for this kind of stuff is higher (I call it quits when it gets to any "grope this girl for XP" level stuff), I understand the disappointment over this not being the anime/style you like...you just have to understand that this is what the main audience wants and likes and that you are in the minority. If there is an SMT5, I am sure it will be a "true" SMT game and dark and brooding but this is its own thing now...SMT is now more than just...SMT now..this is just yet another branch off the main course.

Don't like it? Cool. Move on tho.

I would think you of all people would be familiar with being such a fan of something that you hate everything slightly different under the same banner.

Way more interested now that I've seen gameplay. Reminded me a lot of SMTIV gameplay. The character designs might be a little lurid, but is it wrong that they're tuned to my sense of attraction? :P The JPOP I could take or leave but the gameplay looks solid and the story sounds more interesting than the first half of Persona 3 that I played.

For all intensive purposes they did merely make a new IP and we are just looking at it now o.O;

Atlus is not some basement dwelling 2 person indie team but of one of the most known jrpg makers out there at this point. Them announcing that the megaten or persona team were working the FE team to create a new game (instead of announcing a cross over of the franchises) would have had the same effect at the original announcement, just without the expectations that the original announcement reasonably caused.

In the end, I'd rather Atlus make a Trauma Center game for the Wii U instead of this.

I'd do that too, but mostly because I have persona 5 to play soon enough anyways, but I have no more trauma center to play :(

I think it looks cool. Though still don't understand why everyone but the main characters are silhouettes.

I want to support jRPG's and Atlus. The game does look strange, but in a good way. Day 1.

To what? We're talking about the Wii U in 2016 here.

Snarky remarks aside, you're right. It really sucks for us though.

I would think you of all people would be familiar with being such a fan of something that you hate everything slightly different under the same banner.

Nah, I love experimental titles like Four Swords, Captain Toad, Ratchet Deadlocked, etc. You can't seriously be comparing hate for this, FE:A, and Metroid Prime: FF because it's slightly different.

I didn't like the whole idols theme but it seemed fine. The battles have music and choreography. Basically they're an idol show, happening on a different world. I really like this concept. There are little nodes on this, like referring to the characters as cast and even the fact that there's still a crowd, even though it's zombified.

Lol y'all actually fell for his post
Let them. I'm loving the reaction on this thread...

Breaking the charade the only thing they shouldn't have done was called this game SMT x FE and announce it so early tbh, this one can stand on his own as a funny franchise that combines elements from both sides (ATLUS and IntSys) but it's very clear that some people set their expectations based on SMT name alone...

Can't blame them but I'm loving the direction this project took, It would have been a shame if the final product ended up being a Project x Zone alike.
