this looks no less generic than a lot of those films do.

No stakes, TV show, yadda-yadda.

oh no people upset by a reboot color me surprised

Oh man CGI destroying things, good thing the 1998 one never had that. It was soo original.

Tone of the trailer was -

  1. Slow
  2. Un-fun
  3. Humorless
  4. Generic

That said - I love me some modern day monster hunting. I'll remain optimistic that they can do something with this cinematic universe idea - I would love for them to succeed!

There is something very distinct about the CGI city destruction porn clusterfucks that this film seems to have in spades. The 1998 film didn't have any that, was set in the 1920s, had a swashbuckling protag, and a much lighter tone. Maybe read the thread and what people are actually posting again.

no I had enough of that. And the 'original' thanks. Like are people really surprised it's so different. Obviously it's going for something pretty generic now. CGI city destruction isn't going to end anytime soon.

Clearly the mummy's curse will be the reason for his transformation

Or the only way to beat the mummy is...with another monster.

Cue epic team-up and monster fight

I just know they're going to turn Hyde into the Hulk again. And I'll groan and bury my head in my hands.

^ We should write for Hollywood, kevin1025. We know their game - we'd make bank.

Universal is definitely spending some money on this Mummy reboot. Fast and Furious money.

Dollars to donuts Tom Cruise is now practically immortal after the events in the trailer.

I've heard Universal are spending more money on their Monsters universe than any of their other past projects, including Fast and the Furious. So they're really banking on this..banking.

It's gonna have to be hell of a good movie to beat the boris karloff movie, i love me the 1930's originals, and damn the designs look awesome even all these years later.

Tom finally gets his Superhero franchise. Looks like Doctor Strange plot with a fresh coat of paint.

Horrific accident/blessed with mummy powers/learn to mummy/cleverly defeat ancient power destroying a major metropolis

Will watch because TC does his own stunts.

That plane scene still looks like shit, but TC's screams are just gold.
I guess we can rule out any of the new Universal monster movies being classified as horror because Dracula Untold sure as hell wasn't horror and this seems to be the same.

Good shot at the end. Nothing beats Cruise running toward the camera.

I hope someone trips him before he retires from movies.

Not feeling it, preferred the matiné horror of at least the Brendan Fraser film.

But we'll see, should judge it on its own merits I suppose.

I hope (CG) The Rock is in there somewhere.

This feels like its missing the point. The Mummy was successful in its day for its humor and its sense of adventure. Its just a trailer, but this looks far too serious and the visuals are kind of just ugly/grey/stale.

Not the tone or direction I expected at all.

Can't say I am excited for it at all. That looked like The Mummy if Zach Snyder outlined the tone for the film and handed the directing to a bland visual director.

Exactly. It was a pulpy, more humorous and campy Indiana Jones.

Eh. Not the adventure of the Fraser movies nor the horror of the originals. Had to make it yet another action film in a sea of action films and do nothing to set it apart.

I'll catch you in the next MI, Tom.

Interesting idea, but if this is any indication about how they are going to execute it, this may give the DC universe a run for their money in being critically panned and missing the mark.

This sort of cinematic universe screams semi-campy, humorous, adventurous, colorful fun. Or darker and more rooted in horror. Not ultra-serious generic action film with Tom Cruise playing what looks like the most boring character he has played in some time.

Nothing in that trailer really grabbed me. And it's disappointing that it looks to take place. in London. We have plenty of action movies set in major cities already.
