First Generation PS3 content Missing on PSN

Hey, for some reason I just recently noticed a very strange oversight on PSN. Something that literally makes no sense on behalf of the publisher.. who in this case is SCE(Sony Computer Entertainment.)

Let me show you a list of exclusive titles released on PS3 that we can't find on the PSN store.
Which for no reason, unless Sony does not want to pay developers for continuing to retail these products online, have no reason being absent from the PSN store.
Case A: Folklore: Release date: 10.09.2007 Not on US or EU store. (Only DLC)

Case B: Gendji:Days of Blade Aka Giant Enemy Crabs, Release Date: 11.14.2006. Not on Eu or US PSN store. (Only DLC)

Case C: Lair: Release Date: 09.04.2007 (2 DLC Packs) Not on EU or PSN store.

Case D: Heavenly Sword, Release Date: 09.12.2007 Not on EU, or US PSN Store. No content outside of the demo.

Case E: Resistance: Fall of man, Release Date: 11.14.2006 Not in US store or EU store, (2 map packs and Demo)

Case F: Socom 4, Release Date: 04.19.2011 ( 3 DLC expansion ) Not on US or EU psn

Case G: Motorstorm: Release Date: 03.06.2007, No DLC and Not Downloadable on US or EU psn store.

Case H: Warhawk: Release Date: 08.28.2007, Yes on US and Eu PSN. 13 euros and 29.99 USD.(this is the only one, also 3 dlc packs)

Case I: Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction: Release Date: 10.30.2007, not on EU or PSN store, no DLC not even a patch!.
The same goes with the next Full Blu-ray ratchet release, a crack in time is also MIA. Why is that the early PS3 exclusives and games from 2007 are entirely absent from the PSN store? Sony isn't shy from large file downloads, and Socom 4 is even a 2011 release. Why were these games never retroactively added to the PSN store? Even if reviews were bad, they still have potential to be sold to people especially at the discount prices the discs are sold at.

What is Sony doing ignoring their own titles from the all digital future? What would be incompatible about dumping these iso's and making them executable?

How else do you test Gaikai than to give people free money and tell them to download 1 or 2 of these and see how they stream?

they probably resistance because it can now be obtained in collection ? at a cheaper cost?

I dont know good find tho. (people buy folklore its a great game!)

Add to you list no MLB: The Show games, no Heavy Rain, no GOW III, no GT5, they just very recently added Demon's Souls ... it is very odd indeed. You'd think those games would be the ones to get first dibs on DD.

Isn't Uncharted 3 also not on the PSN? I'm willing to bet a lot of games use some gnarly BluRay streaming optimizations that simply don't work when you move all the game data to the HDD. You can't just dump a disc image and sell it on PSN.

GoW III is huge though... ~35GB.

Disc is much better.

Well, Sony never promised that every single release would go up on PSN. I don't see the issue here as much as I would like to see them up there.

They might require some tinkering to get a download version to work (adjusting installs etc) and the devs might not have time for it.

Super Rub a Dub is also missing from the PSN store, which is a trifle disconcerting. 6 years later I finally decide to buy the thing and I can't!

Game Republic is dead which I guess rules out Folklore and Genji. They removed Brave Story from the PSP PSN store when they went under

One day the world will be ready for Folklore 2. One day... :(

They're not just going to dump an ISO on PSN and say have at it, buyer beware. They'd obviously want to test first and then optimize if necessary. Doing that for older games may not be very high priority for SCE or the original devs, obviously.

At least three of the developers from that list are dead, so who would they pay anyway?

I can download it just fine, but I purchased it on release. EDIT: here's the link to purchase it! https://store.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/#!/en-us/games/super-rub-a-dub/cid=UP9000-NPUA80063_00-GSUPERRUBADU0300

You should be happy that they saved you from buying a crappy game that iOS app store has thousands of that play better and are cheaper/free :)

No man, this game is awesome, and seems to still have people competing for top spot on the monthly leaderboards that are still going.

Most of these never went up on the store as DD? The only one that is odd is warhawk. You sure its not up there? I saw it last Tuesday when looking threw games to download. It had the stand alone and the full game + the dlc

I've checked on EU PSN on my PS3 and US psn on my Laptop at the same time. Logged in, they're just not there.
I can only speak for EU Store, but I can tell you none of the games on the list was released on the Store, except for Warhawk and Socom 4 (Confrontation?)... which are still there.

Confrontation and Socom 4 are different games.

Confrontations was a DD game from day 1, but here in europe it also has a disc release that you can find for like 6 euros.

That has nothing to do with it. SCE owns the Folklore IP, so even with Game Republic dead they can release it on PSN. The reason Brave Story was removed was due to XSEED's license to the game expiring (incidentally, they got that license from Sony!), not anything to do with Game Republic.

Some of those might have further copyright entanglements for licensed music or performances... i.e. Sony would have to pay royalties again for digital distribution, if it wasn't in the early contracts or something. Just a guess. It is weird.

In the Resistance 3 thread a few months ago, I was asking why the mainline series isn't available on PSN and one of the devs answered thus (RFOM= Resistance 1):

don't know on the Vita / PSP front. We didn't develop.

R2 and R3 are both dual layer games so that's why, and RFOM is ancient before digital games happened (R2 is on the edge of that time as well, but again size issues).

You could easily play R3 first though if you wanted, you'll probably get lots of different opinions on how to do it

So I guess the earliest PS3 games are just too old and incompatible with DD?

It really is mind-blowing. I remember Uncharted 3 (not first generation but awkward nonetheless) wasn't there also when they released the UC+UC2 combo.

UC kinda proves that it is possible, but its one of the few games that got a trophy pack and patch, so maybe there is something to outdated executables game files.

i read that as him saying resistance came out before disc-games were available dd, so releasing it at this time would be a waste of effort since it's an old game that a large majority of people won't buy now. i don't see how it could possibly be incompatible.

I heard from a friend of a friend that there was a limit on PSN files sizes (18gb, i believe). For full titles there's usually some hackery around the edges to get the file size under that limit, but for ni no kuni (which is 21.7 gb) they've had to release two separate files.

For some of those early games that filled a full 25gb brd with uncompressed video, multiple language tracks, etc, there's probably not enough projected sales to make going back into the game code to cut down the size worthwhile.

pre-trophy era games.

Q*bert was one of the earliest PSN gamest that I bought, it no longer exists for purchase. Thankfully it's still in my history

It would be a little messed up if they were selling Motorstorm, since they took down the online servers and you can't play multiplayer anymore (which was half of the game). Maybe if it was really cheap and had a big warning that half the game is broken...

Uncharted 2 is 19,5 gb. and Uncharted: Drakes Fortune is 20,3 gb. One file size for both. BSCLY your friend is full of bullocks. (Just checked on EU store)

Socom Special Forces?
It was never released on PSN, just like the other games you listed. Sony wasn't much into digital back then, eheh.
Wait, didn't Special Forces come out when PSN was hacked?

Agreed, only wish it didn't have click to run and a couple other tweaks. I miss Socom :(

Yeah. Confrontation was a total mess at launch, but after the first month or so it became one of the best next-gen MP experiences I had. It could still have used some tweaks though, as you said.

I wouldn't mind Slant Six returning to make a new Socom for the PS4, but they seem to be focusing on smaller projects now.

People use to talk shit about that game, but it was surprisingly fun.

I'd buy heavenly Sword if it ever came to PSN. Despite its flaws it was a fun game and it presentation was second to none.
