First looks at Halo Infinite Campaign

This game looks fucking UNBELIEVABLE WOW. Just got done watching it on my television. I knew this game would fucking look amazing when we got more proper, uncut footage of on foot gameplay, but I was even then still very surprised at what I saw. Thank god the person playing was also decently competent, so they didn't make the game look horrible. Wow. Story looks good too!

Hands down the dream Halo title from a graphics perspective. The polygon detail in environments, just like I thought I observed, is absurdly high. What a beautiful game.

looks fun, but the most disappointing and lackluster graphics ive seen this gen from a title that should blow minds. its flat out ugly

will buy if i can ever find a series X for the MP

Yeah, the visuals look really average to me. I would even say halo 4 on Xbox 360 with a resolution bump would rival this. Some of that is the bigger world but it looks very average. I'm less excited after this gameplay because it looks more confined and less exciting but its on my radar.

The gameplay looks great. The graphics though? Far from UNBELIEVABLE WOW.

Really now. Halo 4 is my favorite game in the whole series, it comes nowhere close to this even if you bumped that shit all the way to 8K resolution. The level of graphical detail in these environments blows away all past Halo games. The geometry detail is absurdly high when you're in the first person on foot viewpoint. To me this is the best any Halo title has held up to other next gen games or shooters - in all honesty I think Halo Infinite beats out the other shooters graphically based on this footage - it's only a matter of if you can accept the game for looking like, well, Halo. That is the Halo art style, not the more realistic art style of many other shooters, and it looks fucking fantastic.

As a Halo fan this right here is a level of visual fidelity I always dreamed Halo would have, and with the size of these environments 343 has a lot to be proud of right now.

That was a very short "first look". Love the grappling hook. Spartan core upgrades seem pretty cool. Proximity warning as well. Like that big open area for exploring and finding upgrades.

Too short, but I imagine we will get longer previews in the next few weeks coming up on launch.

You work for Microsoft don't you? Or have in the past.

Halo 4 on 360 visually was impressive for its time.

Were all hyped for this game but come on man. Vanguard looks better than this.

Still can't wait to finish the story on this one.

Still coming away pretty disappointed from a visuals and gameplay standpoint.

the gameplays just looks too safe and slow …not seeing anything too dramatically improved in that area compared to older entries. Just hard to get excited about what's been shown with a slow grappling hook and the usual shooting at grunts and covanent.

That's probably what the superfans want but the next entry is going to need a complete re-imagining to pull people back in

multiplayer still looks like solid fun though

I just realized that because of fuckin' Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 2019) elevating the first person weapon animations the ones in Infinite already look dated. That's one area where they could've given the Spartans more character but it just looks like every other Halo before it.

Sorry not trying to hate but it's something that occurred to me while watching this footage.

I'm not saying it's not better, but holy hell the improvement just looks very marginal to me.

This actually looks really fun. And sounds like they're really hitting hard on the classic feel, which is great. Hope the story can knock it out of the park.

For you maybe not, that's totally fine. But for me what I just watched, and will continue watching, was fucking unbelievable. I watched this on my OLED in my living room, and it looks like a visual and technical homerun for Series X and the Halo franchise. This is how Halo should fucking look. Just look at the environmental detail in this video for outdoors environments, indoors environments, and tell me that the detail in the environments aren't incredible. In my opinion nobody should have issues with Halo Infinite's graphics anymore after this much uncut gameplay footage. What may people take issues with? The art direction. People seem to want Halo to look more realistic, but I view this the way I view Ratchet and Clank. Ratchet and Clank obviously gets forgiven for this because it's more of a "cute" pixar style game, a very family friendly targeted visual and character style. Everybody feels that look is fully in line with Ratchet and Clank. But for whatever reason, a lot of people refuse to allow Halo the same privilege of looking like Halo. Halo, like Ratchet, has never had an overly realistic art style, it was always stylized and uniquely Halo to its own universe, though 343 at times seemed to be showing signs of trending in that direction.

Halo Infinite simply looks like Halo in art and overall visual style, classic Halo CE-Halo 3 inspired legacy designs just as the devs said they were aiming for artistically, and from that artistic starting point, they've made the best, most modern graphics looking version of that game, and I think they fucking nailed it. Again, maybe it's not for you, but hardcore Halo fans that love this universe, that love the halo art style, will be blown away by what they witnessed in this footage. This isn't an average or okay looking game. I would argue strongly it's one of the best looking games I've seen this gen and also running on Series X. Pay attention to the world and art direction and all that geometry in the environments, and how impeccably detailed it is. Look at the huge ass ships in the player's peripheral view, look at the interior designs and various infrastructure design and the level of geometry detail (remember Halo's environments aren't accustomed to packing this much polygon detail) I feel like at times I'm one of the few pointing this out because I've been complaining about precisely this issue with Halo environments for many years - always saying that I found it difficult a lot of times to believe Halo environments served the purpose they were meant to because they often don't reinforce that enough in how they look, something felt off about them detail wise. You will find old posts on this site going back years where I defended 343's work stating that they've been actively improving on this over the Bungie Halo titles, just with sacrifices to size of playspaces, but I felt it was a necessary sacrifice if it helped the environments tell a better visual story. With how the lighting and everything plays up the scenes, especially the darker interior ones that seem so 'dense,' and then you look at the wide outdoors shots from the first person perspective. This game looks insane.

Definitely looks nowhere near those still screenshots they had shown a few months ago - this looks like a poor man's Destiny. Almost everything in the environment looks still and bolted to the ground.

Lighting is also unimpressive. Can't help but feel this game could use some ENB levels of lighting like those in the engine reveal trailer of Starfield, for instance. Or even - again - Destiny 2.

In terms of gameplay, looks like good ol' Halo.

It's definitely going to be a solid entry, but it's nowhere near the jaw-dropper everyone hoped it would be years ago.

The shiny materials and reflections are nice here but my real takeaway is that it looks too static, lacks big explosions, smoke and particles.
Gameplay looks solid though.

Seems like 343 is compromising way too much to appeal to old Halo fans. Gameplay looks unbelievably slow to me, I'll play it because why not but I'm not getting the hype

you need new glasses. halo 5 on the One X runs at 4K and doesn't look as good as this.

That said, the visuals aren't this game's best points at all. It looks fine, but I'd have hoped for a better visual feast since it's their tentpole franchise and it had a one year delay.

We've not seen any large scale battles yet, I thought it looked really good graphically from this footage, so happy they delayed it.

Looks really slow to me, but then again I'm currently playing Doom Eternal, and did Wolfenstein before that. I wonder if that means I should play on Legendary given how intense those games are.

Sprint does not belong in Halo. If you want Halo to be Doom or Titanfall, why not play them instead of change Halo to fit that?

Graphically it looks nothing special. Put it alongside FH5 and I know which one I'd consider a showcase for the SX.

I've heard that one for years. I'm just super fucking hyped for Halo Infinite. I love the Halo Universe and the games, the extended universe etc. Have nearly all the physical books and their digital versions.

It's true though isn't it? ;-p

On a more serious note, Fair enough if you're sincere in what you say. No problems. Personally I think it's bland although to be straight with you, I never liked Halos visuals much anyway, always thought they were the weakest part of the series. 4 was decent for its time tho.

Why does every shooter need to be fast? I'm so happy we have Halo where you aren't moving around the map at 60 mph all the time.

I thought they were showing an old Halo game when it opened. Seriously. This game looks bad. It looks like Halo CE with a higher resolution to me, and while that game was amazing 20 years ago (loved it!) things have changed so much in two decades. Slow gameplay, old looking animation and characters. Hopefully it's fun to the core audience, but as a tent pole release, I don't get it.
