First looks at Halo Infinite Campaign

For those of us who haven't played the previous games, is there a good video summary of the story thus far? Someone posted a youtube video here a while back but I lost it

I just picked the first two with the most views

The second one also covers Halo Wars 2 story, which Infinite also continues.

I need to play Halo Wars 2 if it indeed is what leads into Infinite. I'll just have to put it on very easy and still get my butt kicked because I'm terrible at RTS games.

Just watch the cut scenes on yootoob gives you the gist if you can't be arsed. Decent game tho if you do.

Cutscenes and if you can find a summary for the 2 books they released with all that foreshadowing, you'd be set... though I think the wiki works for that case.

I thought they were showing an old Halo game when it opened. Seriously. This game looks bad. It looks like Halo CE with a higher resolution to me, and while that game was amazing 20 years ago (loved it!) things have changed so much in two decades. Slow gameplay, old looking animation and characters. Hopefully it's fun to the core audience, but as a tent pole release, I don't get it.

Just switched Halo 5 difficulty on normal to make comparation YOU AAARE RIGHT :messenger_beaming:
Damn......never played any Halo game on normal or easy, so huge differences on elites combat, grunts flanks, jakal snipers, brute charges. It is a fucking night & day for every difficulty .
In the old titles is even more evident if i remember well.

Talk about being delusional….

Delusional and proud. :messenger_tears_of_joy: This is the best looking Halo game ever, and it easily looks better than any new shooter dropping. It's graphically and artistically fantastic, and I think it will be quite an amazing title to show off the Series X because contrary to what people want to believe, this title isn't lacking in the graphical department at all. It's quite strong. In fact, it looks every bit as amazing as Ratchet and Clank does. Cutscenes take specific elements relating to characters to a far higher degree, and then for gameplay they do what works best for their combat loop.

People are okay with Ratchet and Clank looking like a Ratchet and Clank game, but seem taken aback that Halo looks like a Halo game. Both games have a unique art style and their own quirky kinds of enemies with behaviors unique to that sandbox, but just because Halo is seen as taking itself more seriously than a ratchet game, people seem more of a mind that Halo should be more willing to abandon its own strong legacy in favor of Gears, Uncharted or Call of Duty when many other successful franchises have done no such thing after years of existing. Texture quality, geometry detail, foliage, environmental design, shaders, lighting quality and other effects, it's pretty much all there in Halo Infinite. A game like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, for example, shines best in its more futuristic, tech sci-fi looking levels with more clean, metallic structures and materials that bring out the best qualities of its art style. Halo's version of those are its various forerunner/banished inspired interiors, or just about any interior that has more metallic structures and utilizes cleaner looking surfaces. Halo's legacy is also one of relying on more natural looking spaces as well, such as what are found on a Halo ring, and that's what 343 aims to achieve with Zeta Halo, and are succeeding magnificently based on what I've seen.

Halo using a dynamic time of day system will have less control over what a player is seeing and how - or there are just so many more variables - but despite this fact in the more natural, and even un-natural environments, the two videogames aren't as far off as some would probably like to think. In fact, Halo Infinite more than holds its own and I would strongly argue is an equally impressive showcase of its own graphics and art style as well as gameplay loop. Some won't like the sound of that, but that's the way I see it. I always view games from a lens that is asking "how well do I think this game is doing in accomplishing its visual and artistic objectives in line with its gameplay?"

Halo Infinite is acing that test.

I agree it isn't the HOLY SHIT THIS PROOF OF NEXT GEN looker game. But to say it doesn't look beautiful is disingenuous… stunning game, beautiful art style, a great foundation for a game that's looking to get built on for years to come. This is one of those graphical styles that age well

Love your enthusiam mate, New Halo game that looks like my 14 year olds self's wet dream come true. Halo fans rejoice because this does indeed look fucking awesome.

That looks good! Certainly not the best graphics, but gameplay looks to be on point. They gotta bump that difficulty up there. Legendary or bust!

I think this looks really cool for Halo campaign, a new fresh take on it with classic items and play style.

Graphic is a noth up for Halo 5, no doubt.

About a month ago I started to replay all Halo games in chronological order. Including Halo Wars series, and currently running in New Mombasa in Halo3:ODST.

Hope I get to finish Hallow Wars 2 the last three weeks until release.

It looks pretty damn good to me!! I don't know why some people think it has to be fast, as if we don't have enough fast shooters already, and as if Halo needs to follow this trend. It's actually both unreasonable and absurd to think about it like that, because people have been fighting 343 so that they bring back the original "feel" of Halo CE ~ 3 for ages, so if they ignored instead and made it Doom-like people would go nuts, in a very bad way.

The game looks super fun and I'm looking forward A LOT to it! Definitely the game I'm expecting the most this year! The gameplay sections doesn't disappoint me at all... much the contrary, it seems like as fun as Halo CE and that gives me such a good feeling!

There's only ONE thing worrying me a bit at the moment... and that is that element of destroying bases. Because I kinda dislike the way Ubisfot's open world games works, and this is an element that resembles me a lot of Far Cry, and not in a good way. But hopefully they'll manage to make it in a way that's both fun and not too repetitive.

I will be fair though, it doesn't take much to please me graphically wise, hence why Elden Ring is the game I am most anticipating from everything announced to date. So, I'm not exactly impressed by it's graphics, but I think it looks totally fine!

My greatest concern so far centers on why I'm not seeing the Repulsor at all in any of this campaign footage, and why I see nobody mentioning it in any of their write-ups. I pray due to its power it just has to appear later because so far I'm seeing all this upgradeable equipment, but not one of the most cool pieces of equipment from MP.

I love Halo, always have. I think that the gameplay looks exactly like Halo and I will be there day one.

But graphically, yeah it is not anything special. 343 needs a shake up badly

IGN said 5 equipments to upgrade so it sounds like it's not part of the campaign

Man you need help, 343 is about to release a 90+ MC game and you think they need a shake up? 🙄

Kinda of a risky prediction. :messenger_tears_of_joy: I mean, FH5 has been super glorified and it's 92.
But hopefully you're right. Not that I care for the score, btw, but if it end up being 90+ it's probably indeed a super good game.

I'm hoping it's not part of just what they played. It's super powerful, so I assume something like that has to arrive later. I also remember Inside Infinite blogs where the devs were clearly hinting to its existence in campaign - before it was originally named or revealed that is.

EG: The Grappleshot is definitely a favorite of mine, but I'm equally excited about an equipment item we haven't shown yet. It's highly physics-based, has TONS of interactions across our sandbox, and will leave you laughing or yelling, "Did you see that?!" Proper timing is everything with this equipment, and if you position correctly, you could very well send your enemies flying!

That has to be the repulsor he's describing, and the context was definitely heavily campaign up to this point. It better be in there man, or I'm going to be super, super disappointed.

No. The momentum mechanic of the grapple is great. Faster with no acceleration and momentum would make it less fun and limit tactical movement options
You're entitled to your opinion, but I think an increase in speed would be beneficial to the pace of combat 🙂👍
Probably a moot point tbh because 343 haven't (at least in my humble opinion) captured the feel of the Bungie developed Halo, and I feel some cynicism as to whether they will on this occasion.
Would love to be proven wrong though, I'd love to be excited by Halo again 🙂

WOW, is it just me or the framerate is all over the place and screen tearing fest also?

EDIT: It really seems unbelievable 4 pages in and not a single soul mentioned this...

EDIT 2: NEVERMIND! I think it was my browser acting up in full screen, vieweing in window mode didn't show these dips.

This.
Just doesn't look that dynamic.

I'm sure that will be fine. We all used it in the MP flight, and it was plenty fast there.

Happened to me too lol. Didn't happen on the OLED earlier, though.

I truly believe if they used UE4 this game would look alot better and we would see meaningful differences in the visuals between the different consoles namely the lighting and ambient occlusion. Something simple as adding VXGI or SSGI to the next gen version would have made it stand out alot more.

lol you crazy dude. 6yrs, no coop and Halo looking nowhere near where it should be. 343s project management needs to go
Their marketting team needs to be axed for lifting up people's expectations with the first two demo trailers (which reportedly werent even in-engine but rather using assets transferred to unreal due to how new the slipspace engine was)

THOSE looked next gen and the xbox one X had barely launched

Game looks good but some of the comments here are more 'Unbelievable WOW' than the game. Like some people need to calm down lol.
