First Metal Gear Solid 4 Gameplay Footage From Master Collection Vol. 2 Appears Online

Yep thats the brown piss filter I remember.
Day 1.

No! They actually reduced it somewhat. Thank goodness. I am not sure if there was a filter that was removed, or some engine differences or small upgrades but it looks much cleaner now. Much less yellow in the Middle East level. Part of that is from the image not being blown out anymore. Some smoke effects look more realistic so there's something else going on here.

Wasn't there a 360 version they never released. Maybe based off it.

You might be on to something. In Final Fantasy VII's case, that original PC port was used for all(?) the other ports afterwards. I'm unsure if this would help, being a 360 game, but it's probably easier than working with PS3 stuff. The textures would probably have been compressed a lot though. I don't know!

MGS4 is such a a strange beast. Notoriously difficult dev cycle because of the uncertainty of the PS3 specs. Frontloaded with insane production value, you can see the quality and dev time spent deteriorate with every new chapter culminating in the final chapter that basically cut out all gameplay except a boss fight, a QuickTime event and running down a literal corridor.

The game overwhelms you with cutscenes and plot twists that get more and more ridiculous and slapstick as the game goes on. It takes itself ultra seriously and simultaneously not serious at all, keeping you as the gamer constantly off balance about how you're supposed to feel about the things that are happening. You'll get a mega serious cutscene that talks about Snake's terminal disease and how he's about to die real soon, and while hearing this news Snake drops his cigarette on purpose so he can take a peak under Naomi's skirt.

Strange experience, but unique. To this day I cannot tell if the game is actually good.

It's a game being strangled by expectations. You can see it in so many of the story decisions, Kojima was afraid to deliver anything controversial or sad.

I heard that the reason 'Here's To You' plays in the credits is because Kojima originally wanted the game to end with Snake and Otacon being sentenced to death for war crimes. The staff hated it. Ultimately the sheer pressure of how to end this thing meant happy ever after was the only ending left.

I don't think Metal Gear is a pessimistic series, so I don't mind it.

I never understood the cut scene hate this game got at the time, you'd have to have played MGS 1,2,3 in order to play MGS4. After playing 1,2,3 you'd know that MGS games are almost movies and you'd know the games are made up of like 50% cutscenes.

When MGS4 came out i played and completed it in one weekend and loving it, MGS is all about story and the long cutscenes in MGS4 were like candy to a baby for an MGS fan, the MGS story and lore was so addictive, you wanted to know more and more.

The cutscenes and gameplay made MGS4 one of the best games ever made.

I'm legit surprised Apple didn't have any issues with the ipod licensing again.

MGS 4 was the last great mainline entry of the series, Metal Gear 5 was an absolute barren waste-land of a game, no atmosphere, no level of immersion, so much for the sandbox level of design, even a game like Uncharted 4 had better level of immersion. That being said it is a BIG oversight in not including Portable Ops over Ghost Babel, and on top of the fact there is no way to just purchase MGS4 on its own, you have to have the others to go with it....(on a separate note I should get around to buying Portable Ops for the Vita while it is still available...)

MGSV was a disappointment in many aspects but also has so much to give.

I basically put it on par with MGS4. They're both annoyingly flawed while still offering great experiences.

2 and 3 are the pinnacle of course.

MGS4 aside, I am really looking forward to play Peace Walker again, especially co-op with against vehicles, and mechas.

I was never much of online player (even though to this day I am still somehow amazed by the fact that you can play together, or against other people all over the world), but PW was truly a pleasant experience for what it was, while there were still active players in early 2010s.

It was still possible to find some people around 2018, but I doubt anyone plays it now.

In lots of ways I prefer it over MGSV, especially because of story and characters.

I remember waiting for the game to install the next chapter 😅. They should still add in
Weird. I remember MGS4 being quite controversial among the fan base back then. Was it that successful? I always thought it sold well but not "game of the generation" well.
Eh as someone that bought it at launch,I remember people loving the graphics but it's a Kojima game so there is that. The installs were boring and eventful at the same time for me. I want to play it again, without the installs per chapter.

Final Fantasy X Laugh GIF

The fifth sun was catastrophic. There were some cringe inducing scenes on the other chapters but for the time it was pretty cool and played fantastic. The final one was nothing like that. All cringe and played like a downgrade from ***** ***** that you've just played in the previous chapter. Should have ended the game there. And the ending. My god. And yes, many people bought a PS3 for it but what saved Sony was a combination of exclusives that they no longer do, not a single game. That and the fact that Microsoft decided to sacrifice the hardcore audience in pursuit of the elusive casual. That worked wonders in USA, but not everywhere else.
yeah my post has some exaggeration to it, but my point wasn't that it completely saved the PS3 but brought it back on the race. I remember back then there were a lot of questions on the PS3 capabilities being useless and expensive when the Xbox360 was producing better exclusives and with better graphics, then came this game: Dual layer Bluray 50GB (which i remember was rare back then), it had to install every chapter just for how massive it was, fighting robots, almost full MGS1 map on it with PS1 nostalgia callback, so many different scenarios etc etc. I think it proved back then that the PS3 was indeed special if you put the effort on it (another separate topic is how people perceived the game as a game)

I legit feel sorry for anyone who never played MGS4 Online or Uncharted 2 online
those two games completely turned things around for the PS3...Most online fun I ever had on a console

I kinda don't even remember the single player lol which is rare for me I think I blocked it out other than the snake "an hero" scene
will be fun to play this again

They should have added some otakon dialog where he is super into ipod modding lol. Talk about putting Bluetooth and usb and flash and battery mods or like the pros and cons of 5th gen vs 6 and 7th lol

V has too much for looks than for the game itself, which is kinda weird since one can say this for MGS 4, but would be a totally different scenario

V has a great gameplay with lots of things to do with Snake... but why the world is empty as hell? Why lots of missions that are "find that guy" and he doesn't add much? Why obligatory walking sessions? Why do I need to collect hero points when everyone already calls me Big Boss? Why there's missions that I need to complete on a harder difficulty to keep the story going?! Why the fuck Kojima traded the beloved David Hayter for Jack Bauer?

MGS 4 has too much cutscenes, and also the gameplay is way closer to a third person shooter than any MGS ever

No never. MGS4 was co-developed and fully funded by Playstation. It was never considered for the 360. It was a meme that because it took a full 50gb Bluray disc at the time that it would have required several dvds on the 360 were it ever ported. But yeah 360 never existed at all.

I wish we got a Creators cut with an alternate ending displaying Kojima's vision of Snaker and Otacon getting dealt with. We have enough stories of the heroes getting the happy ending. Show us something different and I would've been here for it. Also why we're here, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater is the Greatest of all time.

With love,

Greatness

What nonsense is this?

I'm pretty sure I read a report that they had a version up and running on a 360 devkit.

Yes, this is from a direct staffer who saw the demo firsthand.

"Despite how downtrodden my colleagues were with developing on PS3, most of them were still hardcore Sony fans and were not in favour of spending resources on such a test," Payton says. "They believed MGS4 would look and run terribly on Microsoft's older and inferior hardware. One fateful day, the Konami R&D team hosted a meeting where we got to see the fruits of their labour - Metal Gear Solid 4 running beautifully and smoothly on an Xbox 360. As one of the few unabashed Xbox fans in the office, I was excited."

Seeing Metal Gear Solid 5 and online in the title had me tweaking in excitement for a moment.

Can't wait to play this game, one of my all-time favorites. I love when the games get released from PS3 prison.

Patricians are buying this for Peace Walker. MGS4 stinks.
But will this version be woke slop? 🤔 I can't see them including old Big Boss having fun with a schoolgirl in a box, or still have the final fight be with her stripping down to her underwear to "stay cool" inside the metal gear.
