After Brave and this shit, fuck Pixar

What a fucking joke of a studio. It's obvious most of the talent left at some point before Toy Story 3 finished production

Yes the "joke of a studio" that develops software for literally every movie to win an oscar for visual effects http://renderman.pixar.com/view/renderman yes truly a joke of a studio that has won hundreds of awards for its films, yes a joke of a studio the have released at worst two or three mediocre films on top of 10 or 11 award winning films and shorts...yes truly "a joke" of a studio

Brave deserved none of the awards it received when Wreck It Ralph released the same year

Like I said 2 or 3 mediocre films, you cannot name another studio with a better track record than theirs though

I don't care about other studios I care about the Pixar that used to be the undisputed king of cg films now wallowing in mediocrity and being eclipsed by Disney/Dreamworks

How many more movies do we allow them to fuck up before they get back on this track everyone speaks of? As of right now they're the same thing that happened to Bioware

And Finding Dory does nothing to encourage anyone

I'll never understand why people think Toy Story 3 is top tier Pixar or the idea that Pixar "peaked" with it. It was on the slope down, at best. Brave was better than it.

I'll always hate Brave for taking Wreck it Ralphs Oscar

Smh, I saw brave too. I can't even remember it, I usually remember lots of scenes from pixar movies

Haven't seen cars 2 either, liked cars 1 though.

I'm gonna see monsters university but with middle expectations. Hope it's decent .

Just as when Tangled was released. That was the best animated film of that year.

Monsters Inc, although good, is probably one of Pixar's lesser movies, maybe ranked above A Bug's Life...not interested at all in a prequel...

Had a bad feeling this would be up there with Cars 2...just don't care to see it.

Wreck It Ralph was worse than Brave. Paranorman and Pirates were much better than both though.

I'm not too worried about Pixar. Animated studios always seem to hit a slump. I think they need some new talent at the wheel.

Pixar..I still love that renderman. But they have gotten old and they need new blood. Liked brave, hated cars 1 and 2. MU was no where NEAR as good as Monsters INC. Pixar peaked at Wall - E for me. They got too scared.

People's standards for Pixar movies these days is unrealistically high.

That and the added hyperbole posting on the internet has on people, has created this feeling to observers that everything is much worse than it is. 2 disappointing films (to some) and Pixar is shit? Overblown? Dead?

God i wish some of us could think about what we wrote before we hit enter. We would have so many less derails as people try to defend themselves from people calling them out.

Just saw it today. It was better than the last 2 and I enjoyed the themes of the movie. It came down to not being able to be more than someone who is born with it. It was really good. I still enjoyed Wreck-it Ralph better though.

The Pixar hate on GAF is start to reach comical levels of lunacy.

Brave won an Oscar, a very mediocre film, your argument is invalid with the winning awards shit.

Scorcese won his first and only Oscar for The Departed, does that make him a joke of a film-maker? Or does the blame lie more with the Academy? People can be pissed all they want that Brave won that year, but not at Pixar - it's not their fucking fault they won.

Unless Pixar's making brilliant master-pieces apparently they're a shit studio? Talk about ridiculous expectations.

I haven't actually seen the last couple of Pixar films, and I used to see every single one in theaters no matter how strange the premise. Whether you believe they are on a downslope or not, Pixar has been doing a lot of damage to their brand with the last couple of mediocre sequels.

Just finished seeing the movie. First impressions is that it was pretty good, much better than Cars 2 and Brave which had me coming out of the theater feeling I wasted my time.

But, unfortunately it was really the ties to the original Monsters Inc. that made the movie for me. Monsters University just felt lacking, it wasn't as funny or clever, and the emotional core of the story was incredibly weak in compared to the original and other Pixar flicks.

It's good for Monsters Inc. fans, but coming out funnily enough I really wanted to watch the original because I enjoyed that much more. Overall, another movie that was decent but just not up to Pixar's old standards, and it makes me very disappointed seeing how far they have fallen.

Last movie of theirs that I really enjoyed was Toy Story 3, and I feel like that was the last movie to keep me engaged and care about it's characters. Something needs to be done at that studio to get them back on the right track whether it is better management or talent, because last year's Wreck-It Ralph was able to engage me in it's world and characters more than any recent Pixar movie.

Also the Blue Umbrella short aside from nice visuals, was pretty lame. Felt like a very poor version of Paperman in terms of it's "plot", in fact it felt like a direct copy in many ways.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. It's about as good as a prequel could be. Some great human, good lesson, and amazing animation of course.

The Blue Umbrella is also my new favorite Pixar short. Just unbelievably good.

Jeez some people here are overreacting. Sure Pixar has made a few movies that do not live up to their best movies, but not every movie can be a smash hit with everyone. That said, I do agree that some of their more recent work isn't as great as their past works, but that doesnt mean they are shit movies. I exclude cars from my comments, and refuse to watch the two movies.

Yeah, people are shitting on it for no real reason.

It's not great, definitely not up to par to the original Monsters Inc., IMO, but still very enjoyable. And a damn good looking film at that, I think they're finally using ray-tracing.

Speaking of amazing graphics, the Blue Umbrella short is fucking NUTS. They went for photorealism and the result is incredible.

Looking at who's in the director chair, none of the A-tier directors are even sitting in some of the new movies.

I predicted it would turn out loke this.

That's exactly how I felt. I came out of that movie really wanting to see the original movie. It was good and all and was really beautiful looking but It's just not up to par as TS3. I did however like it overall and It was funny in parts.

Lol have you even seen it?

In its own ways its just inventive and surprising as the original. So many times it could have settled and been a Cars but it kept zigging instead of zagging in the best possible ways.

God damn what a fucking brilliant movie.

I haven't seen the flick yet.

But RE: directors...

Pete Docter had no experience as a director when Pixar gave him the Monster's Inc. gig.
The studio didn't want to stagnate and it also wanted to always raise up new talent.

So point being saying someone is a "nobody" is silly on multiple fronts.

I've also noticed a bit of a theme with Pixar handing off franchises to new directors to get their feet wet before letting them go on with new IPs.
Unkrich did Toy Story 3 and now he's doing the Dia De Los Muertos movie (I forget the name).

Absolutely cannot wait to see what Mandrews will come up with.
