This is nothing short of amazing.

Think about how far we've come from. In-browser game graphics has changed a lot. Not to mention that today we can be able to run the UE3 and all the other HTML 5 based engines on browsers today.

Yep, back in November. Runescape 3 is mainly a huge UI, and UI feature update and a large graphical improvement. Not sure if it'll make launch but 2 more skills are also coming.

Nostalgia is hitting me pretty hard after looking at the OG Runescape pics I remember me and my little brother use to fight for computer time everyday for three years so we could level up our characters.

The gameplay wont actually change. It changed last year to something similar to WoW's skill bar with an overhead perspective like it always had and it'll be the same when this comes.

A lot of people just played for free. Free gameplay was PKing.

Massive update. All the quests and content from 2004 and even further back are in the game, the game has been improved, never changed.

If they were to release a full sequel and reset peoples stats, no one would ever play again.

Edit: Out of curiousity, to see what I would lose if they shut down current Runescape and made everyone restart, I would lose 6400 hours of playtime over the past 10 years.

I would like to believe that i am not a big graphics whore but i remember a friend swaying me into downloading this many years ago and after spending about 5 minutes with it, i promptly uninstalled it because of how awful it looked.

The #1 reason it wont happen officially is because the people on different consoles wouldn't be allowed to play with each other and Jagex would rather just not release it in that case.

It would require a touchscreen specific UI to do anything but skill competently and Jagex aren't anywhere near devoting that much time to it. At the moment, if it works on other devices great, if not, they are 100% focused on the PC client. Maybe later, but it would still be a lesser control scheme.

It would totally play in the browser, the game just has very actiony combat these days. There is a skill bar full of skills and a lot of the combat is actually very difficult in the game as well as the death penalty being very large compared to most games. For skilling, it should work ok provided you can right click somehow.

Makes sense considering html5 is in alpha and the UI is in beta. I don't really think they are banking on that many new customers. They still have more subs than Star Wars does.

I took the game too seriously and made too many friends with it.
Some were good, most were bad.
I'm just glad I'm free of Runescape today...and replaced it with TF2...<_<

Ah nice, I wanted it the year it came out, so for an entire year I power farmed before the GE was released getting seeds from random players while Law Running....Good times...

Also, wasn't anyone else mad when they made the combat more like WoW or am I the only one being purist?
That's really the driving force that caused me to leave. (I know old Runescape is back but I can't seem to get back to it since as i said before it feels like a time waste now that I'm older)

i was really hoping we'd have a full reset. the majority of players being fully maxed doesn't make for a very fun game, and i'm pretty up there as far as stats goes

Loved playing Runescape (2) back in the day. Mostly stuck to doing quests and fighting bosses, though. Even got myself a quest cape.
