First Super Mario 3D World review: 9.6 from IGN

Wow. I am astonished. I always thought that Super Mario 3D would be solid, but not the console-mover that Super Mario Galaxy was due to the rather lackluster and “gamey” nature of the trailers. If Super Mario 3D World can be that Mario title nobody (I certainly didn’t) thought it could be then that is huge!

Maybe I should have trusted Nintendo all along, but this is a huge shocker to me. Not only that the score is high, but it actually looks good.

For all the hype of next-gen consoles and impressive powerful graphics, some consumers and even some developers seem to forgotten that good game design transcends hardware power.

EAD Tokyo, no one shall doubt you ever again. Man, I need to get a Wii U fracking soon(sorry, I've been watching Battlestar Galactica).

I mean IGN is hardly the end all be all of game reviews, but it's still good to see that by now it seems my initial disappointment with 3DWorld back in June was largely unfounded. Still hoping the next game is neither a Galaxy 3 or 3DWorld 2 though and something new.

Why do reviewers gotta insist on using the word "Whimsical" every time they are gonna describe a NIntendo game? Holy shit, if you are gonna get a adjective straight outta a press release at least steal one that means something.

Xb1 taking the backburner that day!

It sometimes gets lost in all of the crap surrounding the Wii U sales and the hype over the new systems and all that jazz, but Nintendo is still one of the best game companies with some of the best developers in the world. Backs against the wall Nintendo is my favorite Nintendo.
The quality of their releases has never gone away. People who used to like something and not anymore tend to think things were at their best when they were fans. Objectively, Nintendo is releasing some of the best Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Fire Emblem, Pokémon and Donkey Kong games in recent years. No need to fanboy, they're a damn fine gaming company.

I have the biggest, cheesy grin on my face after watching the review. Nintendo, they only make a few a generation but damn do they know have to make AMAZING GAMING EXPERIENCES.

And here I was arguing with some guy that said mario was "stale" and knack would be the better game...

Socker. It's not.

EAD tokyo, how I missed you.

I agree with not missing rich, but Jose bores me. I miss that sweet girl whose name I have already forgotten.

Audrey Drake. I miss her too. Her passion for Nintendo was a splash of fresh water in the ign gutter.

She works at Nintendo now though so all is well for her.

OT: This review makes waiting so much harder.

Whoever told you that knows shit about videogames.

EAD Tokyo can hold their own against any team.

A game in the making for 2 years by the best of the best in the genre against a launch title???

Please.

Visit post E3 threads on 3D World for many giggles.
To be fair, I still think the E3 trailer and how anti-climatic the first HD 3D Mario's reveal helped a lot in people's negative reaction. Even most of the press reception from E3 while positive felt like it was just a souped up 3DLand. The mainstream turn-around in opinion didn't really start until the October trailer showed off way more unique cool shit.

I have no idea.

I have just seen previews lately and formed a quick opinion on the guys covering Nintendo.

Usually it's Jose Otero, Marty Sliva(he did a recent preview and loved the game all the same) and sometimes they have Brian Altano(don't think he's part of the Nintendo team but he posted on Twitter that though he is spending thousands on the new consoles, nothing has been as fun for him as 3D World).

I liked Rich and Audrey at first but they got old to me.

They were enthusiastic though.

Actually, Peer Schneider. He's usually there on the NVC podcast, and he's doing video with Jose on either Pikmin, or the new Nintendo game of the month.

Jose is the only one fully on Nintendo coverage, which is usually fine until the holidays where Nintendo decides to release TWO GAMES OF THE FOREVER ON THE SAME DAY. And Mario Party 3DS.

Yeah, forgot Peer, he's fun to listen to.

Yeah, she was in the last Nintendo Direct playing the role of the girl in elevator. =P

Yeah, forgot Peer, he's fun to listen to.

I just find it funny that the Publisher of IGN decides that he rather spend time talking about Nintendo stuff instead of running the company.
