First Super Mario 3D World review: 9.6 from IGN

God damn the more I see about this game the more hyped I get.

That music in the video is very catchy too, I assume it's from the OST?

Yes or maybe he is adding the
post worlds
. I have normal skills but love Mario games..

Collecting everything within the normal and post will probably take an average of 25-30 hours without looking up things I'd imagine. Less if you're playing alone. This is just going off my 3D Land experience.

Is there a confirmed challenge mode?

Thanks guys! Man, my kids are gonna be so stoked. They were there with me during E3 when shit got real, and I've been making them keep abreast of goings-on about the Mushroom Kingdom since then. They can't wait to get in that cat suit!

I see the 22nd is on a Friday, too! I hope I'm off the 23rd so we can start playing together ASAP.

Such an awesomely small file won't take too long to download hopefully.

It would be the reason to buy a Wii U for me, just not going to buy it until it's under $150

Yeah, no one falls for this bullshit. People who never plan to buy a certain console always do the price limbo. A few months ago it was "lol I won't buy a Wii U until it's at least $100 less than the PS4." Then a pricedrop happened and now it's "lol no, not until it's less than $250."

I knew this game was going to be something special as soon as I saw the first post-E3 trailer, the one that changed everyone's minds. I feel dirty for ever doubting EAD Tokyo.

The highlight of my gaming year will undoubtedly be starting simultaneous midnight downloads of Super Mario 3D World on my Wii U and A Link Between Worlds on my 3DS.

i was bright on 3d world from the start, but that's partly because i fully expected that we'd get some fall trailers in a direct or whatever that showed off great looking and creative levels, because that's what nintendo does these days

the first trailer is always Iwata or Miyamoto going "look, this is Game. in this title, you can use a bamfodad and it does a thing. that is the new feature. we hope you are looking forward to it, thank you" and everyone's all "oh farts this is dull and Lacks Whimsy And Soul" and then like three months later there's a trailer showing off a bunch of levels and environments and gameplay and everyone's all "choo choo hype train thread game of the forever"

Yep.

To be fair, Wii had enough good games to keep me busy by itself, of course I had something else, but just saying.

I don't regret getting a Wii (secondhand), DK and the Mario Galaxy games were a blast. But I also own a 360/PS3/PC, and most of the Wii's third-party titles just didn't compare to the ones on the other platforms. I even felt disappointed with the first-party stuff (Skyward Sword for ex).

So glad the game is great, I would love to play this with my daughter. The comment about all the easy worlds is disappointing..but it is what it is I suppose.

I know it isn't really the time or the place, but this is why the region locking on the console really annoys me.

well if you're going to pick up a Wii U for this game, just take the extra step and pick up TW101, Pikmin 3, Rayman, all that shit too... cuz srsly what the fuck if you don't.

God DAMN, that footage was the best I've seen in years. This doesn't only look like a lock for GOTY for 2013, it looks like one of the best games ever.

People have to officially stop saying that Nintendo has a stale art style with Mario now. Yes, the main characters all still look similar. But the sheer variety of visual styles in the levels on display in just this video alone is maddening.

Man ... two next gen consoles launching within a week of each other, and Nintendo just steps up with the one two combo and just knocks the wind out of both of them. Mario and Zelda.

For the love of god people, if you call yourself a gamer, go buy a Wii U and support this. There are a dozen solid games to own now, and more on the way in 2014. It's worth it. They deserve the support now.

And Monster Hunter, Zombi U, Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros U, New Super Luigi U, and Wind Waker.

Twice you say what im thinking

I have been pretty down on the Wii U for some time, and havent really played it for a while, but this is day fucking zero. Looks like the game of the generation came early!

Maybe if there was a better deal this BF. 249.99 with Pikmin or W101 would be great

On the topic of crows...

Slightly off-topic but, I Can't even begin to describe how disappointed I am by 3D World. Before the direct, the new 3D Mario was the one thing I was the most excited to see from E3, than I saw 3D World and was crushed. To this day I grin like a mad man every time I play Galaxy 1 or 2, and while I enjoyed 3D Land (enough to 100% it), I always felt that game lacked any soul. The Galaxy games were magical, 3D Land was fun, but it's not what I want from a console Mario game. I just want to find stars in magical, inspired, innovated levels; not run towards flagpoles (things that shouldn't be in a 3D Mario game anyways) in bland "New" levels.

I can't believe how much an opinion can change based on just a single new trailer.

Owning only a Wii was difficult due to the lack of third party support, but it was home to what I'd say was the best first party lineup of the 3 in terms of size and quality. I can't really imagine myself missing out on games like Xenoblade and SMG.

I'm pretty much expecting the same thing with Wii U, although I think the lineup will be a bit denser if Nintendo goes after external developers harder like they're doing with Platinum and Sega (sonic specifically).

Yeah I think Nintendo is still $50 too high. I'm reasonably sure they will be at $250 for Mario Kart, but it would have been ideal to get there for this holiday.

I believed from the start. I have no shame.

I will also add I predicted to a t how the scenario would play out. That they would show more content closer to release and that people would see and change their tune. I knew it.

This is why I game.

Yep. This is why I got a Wii U at launch. I never doubt Nintendo, even with their mistakes, the GAMES deliver. Cannot see myself skipping Nintendo, I mean I love action and FPS games, but this game is a welcome change of pace.

It's strange to me that when I was a kid, some of my best game experiences were with Zelda I and II, and while I liked SMB 1, 2, and 3, Zelda was a much more epic thing. But now, though I wouldn't say it's reversed, I've grown bored of the same paths Zelda games seem to walk, while there are still some SMB games that provide the kind of magic that I experienced as a kid. From what I've seen, Super Mario 3D World seems to capture that magic and sense of fun again.

Where are the badasses who said this game was a port of a 3DS game? Where are they now!

it certainly looked like it was an unmotivated translation of the 3DS game when initially revealed. With the garbage that is NSMB, the announcement certainly didn't quell any underlying negativity.

That being said, further gameplay snippets from (august? I don't remember) relieved a lot of the 'me-too' fears that I had about the release. I haven't stayed on top of the news regarding the game once I saw that because it looked like a must-buy for my wiiU.

I also wasn't a big fan of Mario3ds, I mean (imo of course) it was fun but not nearly worth deserving the praise I consistently see for the title.

This shit has a chance to top TLOU and GTAV in my oersonal GOTY ranking. And if someone told me that during the reveal trailer, I'd say they are crazy.

Forgive me, EAD.

lol, it's fun to read the reveal thread here on GAF. Here are some opinions about this game!

Terrible, absolutely terrible.

As others have said, not something you'd buy a Wii U for.

Incredibly lazy and uninspired. Might be rushed.

What a fucking disaster.

What a disaster, I had a "wtf is this" look on my face the whole time. No ambition, no creativity, just a huge blunder.
