It varies from game to game, but it's not as bad as it sounds. For Virtual Console games, it's actually pretty good. Just plop the GamePad down on its stand on your coffee table or desk, grab a Wii Classic Controller or Wiimote and go wild. I wouldn't use this setup to play pointer controlled games though, it's just way too cumbersome, and unfortunately rules out Galaxy.

The best thing about Off-TV Wii games is the GamePad screen is 480p so Wii games look really nice compared with your big ol' HDTVs.

The gamepad has a stand? Does this come with all Wii U's or is it just a premium thing? It's possible I just never took it out of the box or something, but I didn't even know it had one.

Only the Deluxe bundles have them in it. It's great for Netflix watching on the pad.

The charge cradle is a stand that came with the deluxe Wii U. Amazingly convenient and useful.

Just played a level of Sonic Colours with my gamepad on my lap. Surprisingly comfortable. Ok, my Wii U is about to get a lot more use. I'd imagine any games with extensive motion control or pointer use wouldn't be so comfortable to play like this though.

C'mon guys. 3D World looks better than any "next-gen" game, and LBW is a good contender for GOTY it seems.

My guess is that it will be docked points by some for not controlling like Mario Galaxy and not being open like Mario 64.

I'm hoping it has online leaderboards for each stage for time attacks, but I haven't heard any explicit confirmation. Vs friends, country and world be a nice incentive.

To be fair I would love it to happen the other way around... a port to the 3ds. No way I'm buying a wii u for one game, but glad the system is starting to get some worthwhile games!

3D Land is a shallow skeleton of a 3D Mario with gimped controls and moveset with ho-hum presentation. Pretty mediocre as far as 3D Mario goes. Its high praise on GAF is completely alien to me.
