Flower (PSN)

5th level flower (violet) is always sad on my table. I collected all the secret flowers and even got the Pure trophy there. Am I missing something or is it supposed to never blossom like the others?

welcome to synæsthesia

Seriously, I'm still tripping.

If I stop and think about the experience for a few seconds I feel this lightness in my chest. I had such beautiful dreams last night.

My wife and I played through the first level late last night and really enjoyed the experience. The music is very well done and fitting to the mood that game sets for you. The graphics are stunning, and the trail of flower petals that flOw across the screen is mesmerizing to watch.
Great job by thatgamecompany, as you are 2/2 in my book.

That's just how it looks, it is blossomed already. :)

Take a look at the violet flowers you bloom in the fifth level
to shut down electricity
. Even after collecting their petals, they look droopy like that.

Any tips for the Pure trophy? I know what's required, just need advice on making it through the last part of that stage.

I downloaded it last night, installed it but didn't get the chance to play it yet.

Finished it last night. It's obscenely simple, but i wouldn't have it any other way. Beautiful too. This one's a sleeper hit for sure.

Finished the game last night. The last level is absolutely incredible. I adore this game and am so glad that I supported it. It is pure bliss all the way through.

Oh man....I can't wait to see your impressions :) It's like the perfect cool down after so much Killzone.

If you guys didn't know, if you flick the controller in a direction, he'll do a quick turn - almost like the one in RE5.

I've got all trophies except two which have question marks. I thought when you unlocked a trophy the trophy next to it gave you a hint how to get it? Guess I'm just going to look up what those trophies' requirements are rather than wasting my time doing things in the game hoping I'll do something that unlocks them.

Edit: And waste my time I would have considering what the requirments for 'Healthy Play' and 'Welcome Back' are.

I really, REALLY liked levels 1 & 2

Level 3 sucked and not in the charming, Sasha Grey sorta way either...

Level 3 was my favorite. I don't think you can compare the first half to the second half of the game.
I look at it like the first 3 levels are day levels and the remaining 3 are night levels. The night levels aren't as vibrant as the day levels but the way the vibrant colors in the dark levels stand out in comparison to everything else just makes me say wow.

so this is the 'official' thread?
can we somehow add this to the first post, Jim? Please?

I guess... If someone wants to make a comprehensive update for the OP I can edit it in.

There are few feelings in games quite like soaring up high in the sky with the sun's brilliant rays half-blinding you, gazing at the distant horizon, and then swooping down and flying at high speeds low to the ground through grassy fields and knolls.

Amazing game.

It was hilarious last night how quickly my roommates went from laughing at me for playing this game to sitting on my bed transfixed by the beauty of Flower.

Same exact thing happened to me. My roommate thought it was weird, but then he was transfixed by the last couple of levels. This game is just a joy for everyone. No one I've shown it to hasn't been impressed.

But Flower has the best use of motion controls I've ever experienced (I don't Wii). Feels so intuitive. I'm sure that's already been said but having got a trophy earlier I stopped playing to have a breather.

I'm still partial to WarioWare Twisted, but I'll agree that this is the most fun I've had with motion play yet outside of that.

I really don't know why SixAxis has not caught on in any way... sure, you can use it badly like in Lair (which actually used it well but relied on it too much for things that could have been better with a button), and sure there's no accounting for the greatness of Wii's pointer (the real "revolution" of the system), but it's still a nice feature for a controller that has a lot of potential use. SixAxis is awesome for the casual kind of game experience that Flower embodies, and it's also virtually untapped for its potential in action games (Killzone uses it well for sniper nerve-shake, and wasn't somebody going to use it for lean-in-cover?) Unfortunately, PSN downloads are a hard sell for that non-gamer audience that Nintendo has been able to court, but I still think a little more SixAxis play could go a long way.

It wasn't the colours.
I was "tra la la ing" through the first meadow on level 3. Expected the wind turbine to launch me onto the next stage and instead I'm whirling down a canyon...which would have been fine but I'm blowing past all these flowers. So I'm thinking, Okay...I can just do the level again, figure out a way to slow down some, take the best line and gather them all up. Except that later in the canyon there's multiple trails fo flowers with absolutely no way you can get them all and no way to turn around and go back.

It turned from the soothing, relaxing game the first two levels were, to something else entirely.

It's not frantic and anxiety laced like fighting four super mutant masters in Fallout 3 but it's a pretty big shift from what the first two levels were.

Still a piece of exceptional work but for me; I would have liked to see the gameplay of the first two levels sustained throughout the entirety of the game.

There are only a couple of sections in the game like that where you're being forced down some path, though. I don't see how anxiety plays a part since nothing is forcing you to touch every flower on the way when you're going through those
wind tunnels
. If you let go of the wind button, you can also move fairly slowly through them most of the time, with the occasional auto-burst in speed.

There's a novel thing called "demos". Has there ever been a definitive answer from Sony regarding why they don't make demos for their PSN games standard operating procedure?

If they offered more demos, they'd sell more of their games.

For a lot of PSN games a demo would be a good portion of what the purchased game is. There's no way to really demonstrate Flower without allowing a playthrough of a whole level and if that was a demo it would be 1/6th of the whole game.

Well...certainly not levels of anxiety like you get from most games.

But on the first two levels where you can blow past some flowers and simply remind yourself to go back for them later.

You can't do it on the parts where they prevent you from going back, especially on the parts where it seems like there is no way you can get all of them simply because of their layout.

I can take the high path and get the yellow bunches of flowers but in doing so I ignore the white ones...etc.

I plan on putting more time into the third level tonight, just to see how much I can slow down the velocity and see just how much of it all I can scoop up.

And that's fine. Especially with something like Flower. I'm quite sure they would sell more if they gave people just a taste of it.

Downloaded the game from all these positive remarks. I'll add my recommendation to all the others. It's a stunning experience.

It also happens to be the second game to ever give me motion sickness :lol (the first being Half-Life 2). So, I have to take a long break between each level.

Downloaded yesterday but only just got round to playing now, verdict ( like most people here ) awesome.

If your interested, or even if your not - for £6.00 or $9.99 its worth the try - you wont be disappointed!

id gave away 1/3 of Doom in a demo and look how that worked out.

I'm quite sure that too many people would think - "OK, I so can replay this one level over whenever I feel like, and it'll be almost like the whole game - so no reason to buy it".

...To the gamers who know their way around PSN. My point was that these downloadable products are still a niche experience in some ways. There are a lot of people who have no internet connection to their console and never get these games, and there are also a lot of people who just aren't aware of what's out there in downloadable gaming. Microsoft has taken a handful of its downloadable games and pressed them to disc, and I believe that has helped. And Nintendo of course has motion control in just about every product (for better or worse) seeing as how it's the centerpiece feature of the console. Sony, meanwhile, has produced one showcase title for SixAxis (Lair) and has then barely used or even bragged about it since. They renamed the controller back to DualShock when they put rumble back in rather than combo the two names to become something lie ShockAxis, so it's unfortunately easy to see what Sony thinks of SixAxis these days.

I couldn't wrap my ahead around the controls at first and continued to struggle. I put it down for 10 minutes and got a trophy :lol

After I stopped playing it like a "game" and just felt the experience I really enjoyed it.

Beautiful game. Some random observations...

Love the attrac mode! Just let the controller sit for a bit, and you're treated to an Ico/SotC-type montage of whichever level you're in. It seem to includes a few subtle, visual clues as to where the hidden flowers are.

Soaring high up into the air, then looking down, both to admire the vista, and to scope the environment for where to swoop/soar/glide next.

Making different melodies depending on your speed, movement and choice of which flowers
you fly through.

Having a few hits of pot for the 2nd play-through= O M G !
(you don't have to be a little high to love this game, but... :D )

Looks like Genova Chen and Co. really took a lot of the ideas they first used in their game 'Cloud' , and achieved something very special here.

Just finished the game, and well...words right now can´t describe what´s going through my mind. One thing I can say though is that this game s so far my GOTY. Amazing!

Now! What we all need to do is to convince thatgamecompany to release the fantastic soundtrack! I call for a GAF petition so that we can get it, unless they don´t plan to release it any soon.

Check the single green petals in the pots in the menu. There are three in every level.
