Floyd Mayweather vs Conor McGregor fight finalized for Aug. 26 - It's on!

The first minute of this fight will be very exciting.

With that said, there is really nothing in the videos released to make me hopeful McGregor has any real chance.

Amazing fighter, but Floyd is almost the perfect boxer. No shame in losing to him, and I look forward to watching the fight.

Can Connor bang? Yes.
Can Connor box? Debateable.
Can Connor go 12 rounds? Who knows?

Is Floyd the best technical boxer to ever live? Yes.

Connor has a punchers chance in this fight but that's it, the problem for him is that he has to actually land one.

I know zero about UFC or boxing or combat sports in general but somehow, this whole match and thread is entertaining. Hell I might actually watch it, just to see who's "right".

Isn't that Connor dude legit ? Does he get hate because he brags a lot or what is it ?

Dana White just leaked footage of McGregor vs Paulie's sparring session on his Instagram, oh shit.

Man, this is some of the strangest boxing footage I've ever seem. So much wasted movement and motion, but he definitely lands a few solid shots. If McGregor fights like this, he will be gassed after 2 rounds. Also, out of 2 sparring sessions, they almost certainly released the footage that casts him in the best light.

First vid: For all the contact (which is an amazing amount given the brief length of the clip) only one punch lands cleanly with weight behind it. But maybe that's his plan? To mask his intentions with extremely unorthodox movements and then pop in good scoring blows inbetween the wasted movements? It certainly worked in the short clip. That was one nice straight left.

Second vid: Again, very weird footage. McGregor is definitely pressing down on Paulie's head, but it looks there is a short right uppercut that gets to Paulie's legs and puts him down. That said, if it were a clean knockdown they could have released footage with a better angle. It sort of reminds me of the short hooks Errol Spence used to knock down and then knock out Leonard Bundu. Based in the footage we have I would call it a knockdown and not a push down.

Overall the footage makes me more excited for the fight. I can't wait to see what McGregor will look like in the ring. At the very least he won't simply fight like a bad boxer, he is going to bring something unique.

But Conor went 12 rounds with Paulie........

Lol seriously. Probably from the beginning of an early round too.

Yeah, very early rounds, only the 11th and 12th rounds..........lol. No one other than Paulie himself said it. Lol indeed.

Eh...if they were indeed in the 11th and 12th rounds...not awful. Most would be pretty tired by that point, telegraphing, and sort of sloppy.

It's tough to make a judgement without seeing footage from very early rounds. I would say that if his technique looks like this in early rounds, Conor absolutely doesn't stand a chance. But, it's impossible to say from just this footage that was (apparently) shot in very late rounds.

I still don't think he's going to win either way.

TIL:

You can judge 12 rounds of boxing by watching 20s of footage.

You can also judge an MMS champs chances against an undefeated boxer who literally grew up in the ring by landing one straight left (that doesn't even rock an out of shape, inactive tomato can), rabbit punches and holding/pushing behind the neck.

Edit:

Oh, this clip is from the 12th round?

So if McGregor can make a chubby and probably tired as he'll Malignaggi to fall over in the 12th, Floyd has something to worry about?

Come on now.........

And Conors punches on the inside......wheres the technique? Wide slaps? His straight was good, but it was telegraphed as he'll and Malignaggi was still standing. His guard is also lazy as he'll.

I think the clips were probably released just because of the noise Paulie was making about it, but anyone else using these clips like some sort of top tier boxing ability that should worry Mayweather are wildly deluded.

I'm willing to bet Mayweather would humiliate Canelo again if they decided to do a rematch after this.

This time let's not do a gimmicky catch weight. Canelo couldn't go all out and hunt Mayweather down because he had to conserve energy. The fight would have been better at 154.

You realise Paulie's last fight was in March? McGregor's last fight was in November of last year.
And lol at tomato can - guy has 36 wins and 8 loses as well as being a two-time world champion.
This goal post shifting is fucking embarrassing and shameful.

And we got 15 seconds of footage, not 36 minutes. I don't think my point is that hard to understand.

The point is he was still able to box like that in the 12th round, which you're claiming he won't be able to.

It's highly likely he was actually more active in the 11 rounds prior, so your theory doesn't hold water.

Conor looks in insane shape. Like insane. I think the odds of him gassing early (which I even thought was a strong possibility) is kinda out the window. If he does start gassing / being exhausted it will be due to eating body shots, not his conditioning

I'm saying that the pace he shows in the clip is not sustainable over the course of 36 minutes. Are you just trying to argue for the sake of arguing?

Yes out of shape and inactive the guy is chubby as I've ever seen him in that video and has not kept up with training.

And yes tomato can. Paulie yends to get smashed up pretty badly when hes ouymatched. When did Paulie last beat anyone of note in the past few years? His last fight was a retirement fight where he got KO'd. He's way past his best.

Especially when he's literally not fighting fit as he is in these clips.

There is a massive gulf in between those 2 groups lol.

But sure reality doesn't matter, and we're just hating on Conor and he's not a glorified carny.

Why hate at all? The man has been in it for the money from the start and has somehow managed to get himself a life changing payday in a sport he doesn't specialise in. The fact that people have to get so defensive about it all speaks volumes. You have to admire a guy who two years ago was fighting Dennis Siver has managed to talk his way in to getting boxing's biggest star to step in the ring with him.

In every single measurable aspect of the fight Mayweather has McGregor beat. We know it, they know it yet people are still going to tune in. The best part of all is after McGregor loses you are going to have boxing fans crowing about Floyds easy night all whilst McGregor walks off in to the sunset having extracted a massive massive payday.

What McGregor has managed to achieve for himself should be admired, nobody has ever done it before and chances are it will be a long time before anybody does again.

Welcome beautful toddler, Madison Elizabeth, to the horde!
This entire production was and is about Floyd. Is father time going to appear being the only real question. He's kept himself in meticulously amazing shape for his career so I never worried about him with that. Floyd us going to do what he's supposed to do in this situation, knockout the opponent. Conor, glad you got your money but he's going against the most technically proficient athlete ever. No wasted motion, everything done right. People who have never watched floyd live and have ever judged him through clips or the words of others are going to be utterly amazed at how easy this will be for him. Like, why does that damn right hand lead keep hitting Conor in the face? Why does it look like Conor is 5 steps behind. Us boxing fans, we know the deal, floyd is the truth, he's special. This couldn't be any better for him because people outside of boxing will see this too.

Why don't some of you just come out and say you think McGregor will win? You want to post paragraphs upon paragraphs of why he's better but then end with he's not gonna win??

Doesn't make any sense to me.

This thread is so fucking childish, lmao.
Just enjoy the spectacle and stop with the "my guy in my sport is so much better than your guy in your sport".

Kind of legit, the guy backs it up, very smart with his tactics think Mike Tyson scare tactics, only problem with mcgregor is he doesn't really defend his belts just goes on to chasing the next thing.

Gonna be an interesting fight but I just can't see him beating mayweather, mayweather just wants to put on a show for his last ever fight and be remembered.

Every fight mayweather has everyone always thinks he's gonna lose, he is the greatest but I don't know why people always view him as the underdog

I really enjoyed reading the posts here.

Ever since the Dennis Siver fight, I've felt Conor gets hit way too much. He allows himself to get hit. I don't think he can allow himself to get hit by Mayweather over and over again.

I also don't know what a 40 year old Mayweather will look like after 2 years of inactivity. It's not like the Marquez fight.

I'm rooting for Floyd.
