For Honor Open Beta Feb 9 - Feb 12

Unless I'm completely misreading the game. This seems perfectly okay to play like a fighting game right? Pick your main, get good with your main, learn matchups, etc.

That's how I've been playing the beta, and how I'll probably play the main game.

The open secret is that it is a fighting game. My guess is that Ubisoft is downplaying that in the marketing since outside of Netherealm games, the genre isn't doing that hot at the moment. Definitely not at the level that Ubisoft gams typically sell

That's essentially what it is at heart. You can really feel it when you go from a 1v1/2v2 to the 4v4 modes.

Yeah, even during the first alpha I played I was thinking that. It doesn't seem like an Overwatch where you need to be decent with a good number of characters.

For what it's worth, people that "assist" me in 1v1s usually piss me off because all they end up doing is triggering the guy's revenge mode. At that point I bail from the fight and leave my oh so helpful teammate.

Now this is true. You are winning the 1v1, then your allied peacekeeper dives in, gives the guy revenge and now you both have to retreat. I just roll my eyes at this point lol

Maybe I didn't give it much time to judge it properly, but usually I like big multiplayer games and what I found here in the 4 vs 4 is I leave my opponent and rush to help my friend to take the opponent in 2 vs 1. then him and I both team up to kill the one who was following me like an idiot from the beginning of the game. ( since when you team up, you can kill that poor mfer in 2 swings)

That's what I really don't like about 4v4 (especially Dominion). Fortunately this happens way less in 2v2.

I feel like they're going to have to address parrys eventually. I play Nobushi and I *never* block only parry. You get so much advantage and it's so easy. They either have to tighten the window, or do something to offset the risk/reward.

Yeah, I think its a thing where balance favors the team modes quite honestly. In the team modes you can't turtle up for minutes at a time because you may have multiple people bearing down on you before long. This is the way that people are starting to play 1v1 even in the beta, they just counter guard break every guard break and wait for parry punishes and the classes that have the fastest attacks and unblockables that are difficult to react to tend to do really well because they are the only ones with reliable damage in the neutral game, it's why I think PK is the strongest class. She has the strongest parry punishes in the game and she has the most difficult attacks to parry on reaction.

It's also something I like about Elimination specifically, it actively promotes killing your opponent as quickly as possible and executing them as well. It promotes an offensive playstyle more than the others because once you've executed your opponent you're free to turn a numbers advantage in other areas of the map.

I played a little bit Conquerer yesterday after playing Raider the whole time during the last beta. I really like the play style and having the blocks interrupt chains feels awesome.

Also goddamnit I thought this ended in 3 hours, not already!

I enjoyed what I played but I will have a difficult time trying to convince some friends to jump in at full price (especially up here in Canada). Might have to wait for a few months first.

That is pretty f'ing cool honestly. haha

It's kind of the opposite actually. The end-game meta at the moment involves fishing for parries and basically nothing else. Combos and unblockables are pretty much junk because they just function as parry bait.

The most vanilla character in the game, Warden, is also probably the best character simply because he's so good at baiting parries and capitalising on them.

If you say so. All of the more successful streamers I watched just feinted into the same combo every time and it's nearly impossible to see which side they'll go to after the feint so you're constantly trying to parry after taking the first initial hits. And then when they start throwing in some actual heavy attacks while you're expecting a feint it's over. It doesn't work for shit against bots but it seems like players fall for it every time.

what time did the open beta end?...I was hoping to get in a few more hours...the last closed beta ended at 8:00 PM EST

A half hour ago.

I was fully expecting them to extend it like 12 hours which is what most betas do near the very end. Kind of a bummer that they didn't.

I have to say the multiplayer in this gets my heart racing like no other game. Every fight just feels intense.

Liked what I played just don't know if it is a day 1 purchase especially given the onslaught of games in March.

I'm mainly wondering if this game will have a community or not because right now I can't tell if this is going to be a Rainbow Six Siege where the community keeps growing through word of mouth or an Evolve where the beta community was huge but no one bought the full game

This game lives or dies based on its community

this is indeed the key for me in terms of whether I buy or not for PC...I only play 1v1 Duels so I need a healthy community...the PC community is notoriously finicky so I don't want to get burned like I did with Evolve

So, will the download work for full release or will we have to redownload the entire game over?

Probably has to be a new download. My PS4 downloaded the retail game so its ready for monday night despite having the beta installed. But who knows, they could patch the beta file and it could work too. We probably wont know for sure till monday night.

That's part of it but he's not as vanilla as you might think. His shoulderbash is really f'ing good. It's an unblockable that is not easy to counter because it's pretty quick, it can be delayed by holding the button down longer and knocking the opponent further, it can be canceled, it can be canceled into a guardbreak when people dash to the left or right. He has a top light that is very fast, his zone attack is among the best in the game. His crushing counter is very strong against a number of classes. There's no fluff in his build what so ever, everything is useful.

the game comes out on Tuesday so if they extended it another 12 hours you could play the beta almost until the full game releases lol

So mind games...like every other fighting game ever?

I think I owe ubisoft 60 bucks now, played 50 hours total on two betas. Even if I wouldn't play the game after the launch I've got my moneys worth.

Thats 1v4 not 2v1, also its not a typical 1v4 since they didnt all go ham on the Raider all at once, they backed off, gave space, didnt attack during executions, and even ran away at time. It was more of a 1v2 then another 1v2 that turned into a 1v1, then a final 1v1 after that.

Its impressive for sure, but not really a standard fight.

I really think those shoulder like unblockable moves will be nerfed, especially the Warden one.

Wish I spent more time playing the beta, but it's a pretty cool and intense action slasher as I anticpated....I would defintely play this over COD tbh or even Wildlands....

Its the best possible scenario for 1 v 4 though; if all attacked at once, they would of probably killed each other due to friendly fire. He was getting attacked from behind and then 2 in the front. You cant expect a pug group to split on each side and attack from diff directions.

To be fair, with how much damage you take from a single hit, it's way more tense as a result than most fighting games. To the point where one slip up can cost you half your health.

It's not uncommon for fighting games to have 3, 2 or even 1 touch death combos, like, when you see some one fuck up in high level marvel, you know they are about to lose a character.

are you really saying all fighting games are the same because they have mind games?

How did you come to that conclusion from what I posted?

What the poster I replied to was describing is mind games, conditioning someone to expect one thing and you counter with another. Something inherent to every other fighting game ever...not that every fighting game is the same because they have mind games..

Lots of my pug groups ended with 4 people slam banging 1 person from all sides though, haha.

Some matches in 1v1 feel unbelievably laggy even though both players have full green bars. At times it takes something like half a second for my character to react, if he reacts at all.

Not sure if that's some host advantage shenanigans or what.

Well, I didn't play the closed Beta, are the Devs Buff heavy or Nerf heavy type ?

I honestly didn't notice any big changes across 4 alphas/betas, I did however not play the open beta that much, I didn't feel like investing too much time in another beta without my favourite class from the closed alpha.

Definitely had a couple runs like this.

Honestly, one of the coolest feelings I've had in both betas is watching your teammate finish their 1v1, either awaiting another challenge or to congratulate them on a victory.

The only real buff I noticed are Warden's faster light attacks. Everything else didn't feel too different.

How does the berserker's infinite combo work? Do they have to connect? I thought it would work like the Conqueror but that didn't seem to work.
IIRC, you can only continue it from the left and right side. If you do it tops, it ends the combo.

Also it sucks so hard when some douche interrupts your execution then to get killed as they then revive their teammate. D:
