Forspoken Hands-On Impressions

Combat looks fun. I dont know why you guys think this looks boring when literally the entire world is an active playground for you to kill mobs with magic spells. Thats one complaint i never got about Horizon either. It was not an empty open world like Ass Creed, Watch Dogs, Spiderman, Fary Cry and Witcher 3. Literally every few feet there are enemies for you to fight. This world seems a bit more sparse than Horizon, but there is still a lot of combat you typically wouldnt see in traditional open world games that limit combat to outposts and story missions.

Traversal isnt boring. You arent just walking or riding a boring horse or car. You are literally hovering on a magic hoverboard. Combat looks different from any other game ive seen. Im a huge fan of magic in Souls games and especially Skyrim and i cant remember another game that has had mage combat like this.

The main character sucks, the visuals have been downgraded to oblivion resulting in a really fugly look, but you cant say this looks boring.

Peopel are just salty its locked up for exclusivity for 2+ years (most likely forever)

Oh well, thats how the cookie crumbles, game will be a nice early of the year post-holiday game to set the year off. Thanks Jim!

Wonder where this will rank on the Square Enix cringe-o-meter:

10. Star Ocean 4
9. Kingdom Hearts
8. Final Fantasy X-2
7. Final Fantasy XIII
6. Final Fantasy VII Remake
5. Stranger of Paradise
4. Final Fantasy X
3. Final Fantasy XV
2. Final Fantasy XII
1. Final Fantasy XIV

Come on. Don't be daft.

The number of games that only have Switch/PS5 console ports is very small. And PC has never been a focus of Sony's "console exclusivity".

Anyway. Forspoken still looks like a mid tier AA game. I can't believe I'm saying this but this makes Stranger of Paradise look like a more interesting/fun game.

Only having enemies in the map is pretty shit tho.

Modern open world need random events, unscripted battles between factions, an animal ecosystem etc to make the world feel alive.

The shillup dude said that the open world is similar to what you find in a jrpg game like ff15 or xeno, so the worse, dull, empty shit you can imagine, it is beyond idiotic having that type of open world for a western game (or for any game really).

This smell "we have ff15 open world concept to use, why bother" level of laziness.

And you know that i'm one of the few that liked that game since the first showing.

Exactly, look at the big boss monsters you fight in this combined with the variety of spells in combat

Looks sick to me.

Like I said no magic based combat game comes close to the fluidity and spectacle on display here.

The world and characters are more interesting than something like infamous as well

Looks quite cool, a bit hectic but first preview said it was like Spider-Man and I do like Miles Morales a lot.
PS+ game-catalogue, when? In a year?

Looks gorgeous and the gameplay seems to be really fun.
Hopefully the story will be interesting but it seems a perfect game to start the new year with a bang.

Shill Ups preview is reasonably positive/hopeful.

Expect nothing but I'll be glad if I end up positively surprised. Most importantly they need to sort the performance issues though.

FF15's open world was trash. i liked the game but the open world had nothing to do, but this gives me Horizon vibes.

I am not saying the game will be great. I agree, next gen open world games need to evolve and have better dynamic elements, but none of this screams 'boring' to me. Combat looks fun. Traversal looks fun. Boring is not the word id use to describe this game.

Maybe i wasn't clear, the game looks fun to me aswell, i was merely talking about the open world.

Spiderman has fun traversal but pretty shitty open world aswell.

The magic has always been the best looking thing in this game, everything else is very uneven. I love that they say "square got a good laugh" out of the response to the trailer, how stupid could they be to react that way? It wasn't just how much she was talking it was very poorly written and the performance was half assed at best, saying something is heavy without even trying to sound like you are straining to life it just seems second rate.

This is still maybe the dumbest video game trailer I've ever seen :

I think this game is like Western Kingdom Hearts.

Yeah that's so bad I can't understand how it got the green light? Like nobody at the studio noticed how bad it is? That in itself is worrying.

Looks alright to me! Only watched the SkillUP preview and he seemed keen to play the game again, mostly based on the fun combat and cool traversal. He has a few fair reservations, with the PS5 performance, which he admitted could be improved, and he didn't see any of the story, so couldn't comment on that. Hopefully, SE have listened to any feedback on the annoying sounding 'cuff'.

The guy from Skill Up said that this preview version didn't have anything in terms of dialogue or characters and whatnot, just an open world exploration(at least from what I watched). Specifically, this is not the actual version, so theres no saying if they actually tone down or the amount of reduction they did.
He says that the banter with the cuff during his demo was there and was annoying and he felt that the gameplay video they gave him did not represent what he actually played. Timestamp 2:20

This looks like the average run of the mill 3rd person action adventure with mild rpg festures, but is PS5 exclusive so we need to hype it up.

The gameplay looks pretty fun.
Visually its a bit of mixed bag, the sandy colour environments look ok, the grey rocks and mountains at a distance look like halo infinitess, as do the lack of shadows on distant trees. The character models and effects look quite good but for the PS5 I expect a game looking like this to be 60fps.

I think it'd be better if she had some badass melee attacks, to go with the magic. I don't know how anyone thinks opening a weapon wheel, then using a spell, then flipping and running away from the monster until you can get off another magic attack looks fun.

I'd rather a dodge, and then right back on offense with flurry of punches/kicks until I can unleash more magic.

I'm not into this hit and run away stuff. The trailer is loaded with floaty flips and back dashes to get away from everything including deer.

Also, gotta have the grapple hook for traversal these days. Only this is a magic one.

Movement looks like fun, and the affects look pretty, but the ridiculous writing and dialogue still puts me off this game. No preview or trailer has swayed me, so I guess it will all come down to reviews in the end

Ahhh final fantasy X was a good game at the time... still is remembered by me as the last good classic FF .... dont get the hate 😪

FFXV though... number 01 on that list hands down

Ray tracing global illumination makes it t makes it true next gen game , and it looks better graphically than gow ragnarock ,

I was looking forward to this game without knowing much about it. I watched two of the previews, and I'm put off. I don't think it's my kind of game. Here's why, briefly.

I didn't realize it's from the team that did FFXV, or that was a JRPG. Not my thing.

The combat was described by one previewer as "frantic and frenetic," where you throw whatever you can at the enemy, as fast as you can, rather than giving you time to think things through strategically. I don't like that gameplay style. It drains me.

I was also put off by Skill Up's description of the open world being empty and dull. No thanks. And NPCs who just stand around waiting for you to attack them. Too JRPGish for me.

The constantly blabbering cuff sounds annoying, too. I know you can turn him off, but it also seems to be a major "character" in the game, so it seems weird to mute him entirely.

What caught my attention originally was all the effort they were putting into the writing. Granted, we haven't seen much of the story so far (although what we have seen is pretty average). Maybe that will elevate the game, make it worth pushing through.

Anyhow, I think Forspoken is off my list for now.

So stop blaming Sony. The blame should lie with SE. They excepted the money and deal because they weighed up the pros and cons of the deal and obviously chose what was better for their bottom line.
I guess no one should of blamed Xbox for their 1 year tomb raider exclusivity as well right?

Didn't find a thread on it but is this on XBOX now?
Here.
Dude you're way late to the party, this game released on Xbox January 2023 (almost three years ago!)
