Forza Horizon 3 – PC vs. Xbox One Graphics Comparison

Forza Apex isn't all that impressive on PC. Thought this would look better though.

Somethings up Because this is how Apex looks for me. I'm hoping the optimization is there too. At 5K Forza Apex runs at 90 fps under xtreme conditions outside the cockpit and around 150fps under extreme conditions inside the cockpit maxed out with 8xMSAA

All of this was taken without photomode. The angled shot is from a replay.

I'm hoping whatever driver came out today rectifies the issues as to why the comparison made the PC version look so bad. The MSAA looked like it was busted. The pix above is what maxed out MSAA should look like.

MSAA are broken in the video , dont work...

You are correct.

There's no way FXAA will fix that mess.

FXAA will fix that mess easily actually. FXAA is good at fixing (or should I say "blurring"?) such edge specular aliasing. It's one reason why all Assassin's Creed games have FXAA always on alongside MSAA.

The draw distance and frame rate difference is very pleasing on PC. Very happy that I can potentially run the game at 120hz on my PC.

I just got a wheel, so I'm pumped!

Yep, going by this footage and the comments here in the thread, I'm gonna probably do the FXAA+MSAA combo. Probably just 2X MSAA though, don't want MSAA using up most of my framerate budget with so many other options, too. I'll take a little bit of jaggies and some shimmering, which I've found pretty tolerable on Xbox One demo so far -- I'll overall be satisfied enough with the PC version if I can get XB1 image quality at 1080p/60fps on my i7-2600HQ+GTX 1060 laptop, but of course I am hoping for better. I think motion blur will probably help with environmental details in motion too.

Looks quite similar, expected the PC to blow it out of the water but it didnt. Quite dissapointing

It looks gorgeous on Xbox already, and the PC version has better shadows, reflections, texture filtering, and AA. On top of that it runs at 60FPS. For me that's more than enough to be honest.

Good god that's amazing.

I can barely read the FPS counter because of the compression but it seems like your lowest drop is about 45FPS? That's ridiculous for such a high resolution on a 980Ti.

Looks like I'll definitely be able to manage a smooth 60 or above at 1080 on my 980Ti, maybe slightly better too since I have a 6700k.

Thanks for the footage, it looks amazing too and this is the first time I've seen fully overcast scenes in the game, as opposed to rainy but sunny.

Looks REALLY great! The dull rain lighting looks phenomenal, my mind was going back and forth between "real life?" and "video game?"...

Tha straight up shouldn't have been done.
Why is the blur turned off? What is that setting compared to others?

Also an FTP with the HDR version would have been great for folks to be able to see those differences.

Do they go to the city? For most of us thats been the massive FPS killer by the bus stations and a major number of races happen there.

Nope. I saw him drop to 45 a few times on the open road when cars passed him.. didn't go into the city.. but he was running on ultra w/ 4x msaa.. still pretty impressive for a 980 Ti...

Sadly, my i7-5820k died on me. Waiting on Intel to RMA it, so until then I'm using my HTPC as back. Yep, the Xeon is my HTPC... and virtualization box. I also forgot to disable vsync. I've done this for some other videos I have rendering.

Wow. Then that is going to be sub 30's in the city easily.

They should have enabled FXAA, the performance hit would have been minimal while cleaning up the aliasing a bit.

I'm wondering if they turned off motion blur (and FXAA) to produce a "cleaner" image to better compare asset quality between the two versions.

Edit:

I think you can use OBS Studio but I haven't figured out how so far with Forza Apex.

Shit port confirmed. Pack it up, UWP.

Apparently they do this all the time because they just decided...they don't like blur? Honestly their stuff isn't that great anyway but thats just odd.

Pretty sure that is a joke.. as I'm sure you're aware, Universal Windows Platform apps have gotten a bad rap for performing poorly. Sub 30 fps drops would probably propel the game into "shit port" territory for some people.. nevermind any logic suggesting that their hardware doesn't go as far as it used to when they bought it...or the fact that it's basically 60 fps everywhere else..

oh. Gotcha.
Honestly I wasn't aware of any real special issues no. This is actually my second ever game through that store.
As I said earlier the city locations have an issue is all in a couple places. Not all. Agendas I guess.

Sold. I have similar specs (overclocked 2500k @ 4.4 GHz and same GFX / RAM) and I run at 1080P, so I should be golden. I went from "I don't recall hearing about this" to "give it to me NOW" in like 10 hours for this game.

Yep. I just did some more videos, this time a mixture of city and open-road racing. I noticed there was some concern regarding the framerate in the city and honestly it does dip. Suspecting there is still some optimization to be done.

How big of a frame rate drop does the city cause? I have a 1080 and a 6800k and am hoping for above 90 fps at all times at 1080p.
