Fox News Host To Open Gay Bar Next To Ground Zero Mosque

its not like he intends to open the gay bar to be accepting of gay culture, but really to offend muslims with something he feels is offensive - gays.

I can understand why many may find it funny, but I'm gay and think this is rediculous.

Am I the only one who becomes sad when reading these kinds of threads? People who are minorities are lucky... Nobody thinks about how the majority feels about anything.

Heh, seriously? This is like the old "Why is there a BET, but no equivalent White Entertainment Network?" question. Politicians and entertainers spend most of their time pandering to the political and ethnic majority. That's the whole basis for populism (which may or may not be democratic, but that's a whole other issue).

I mean, who do you think the target audience is for a show like Friends? (Yes, I know minorities watch it too, that's not what I asked.)

I don't know if this is the same guy, but yeah I saw one of FN's talking heads had convinced himself that the mosque would only be "fair" if it openly welcomed gays.

Unless I missed a memo, most Christian churches don't make a habit of openly welcoming gays either, yet he doesn't seem to oppose those.

What a strange stance to take. Hopefully the other news outlets take a page out of Fox's playbook and spin it as "Fox News Promotes Homosexual Agenda!"

those clever Muslims who manage to live in Manhattan and never encounter gay people or Western culture in their daily lives are going to be so trolled

You should see the path they have to take during the day to avoid gay people in Manhattan! It looks like a Sunday Family Circus cartoon.

becuase we should be building dialog. :lol
How has Feisal Abdul Rauf avoided dialog with the West or Western culture?

I think it's telling that you're using 'we', though.

Gays have their own clubs now! Now even islamic gay clubs!

So because I am not gay or not muslim, there is no club or place were I can go to! - This makes me feel more like the minority, in some strange way. It's very ironic.

If you're part of a minority you belong with a group and you can stick together. If you're in the majority, you're just on your own.
This whole post reads like a big joke, however knowing your post history I'm doubting it is.

don't forget a puppy store, because we sure know how Muslims hate dogs!

There should also be a record store. To make it even better, the store should only carry copies of Paul McCartney's hit post-9/11 anthem "Freedom." That way you're hitting them with music and freedom.

For the coup de grâce we can surround the whole enchilada with Jewish bankers.

Also, as anyone who has ever been in far-downtown Manhattan can attest it is deader than dead after dark and you'd have to be brain-damaged to actually invest. He may claim to be serious, but this bar will never, ever happen.

pretty much. That part of Manhattan only has a few (relatively new) apartment buildings and they are basically being built so the super rich can have a crash pad near work.

One of the deadest nightlife parts of the city.

yes. not that the islamic community doesn't have a ways to go in terms of dealing with homosexuality, but this accomplishes nothing (closeted gay muslim men aren't going to go to a bar anywhere near this community center). if he really wanted to do that, he'd actually give money to Al-Fatiha or a similar organization.

Oh great, another building near ground zero where you get down on your knees most of the time.

So there!

i have a dream

where every religious establishment is right next to a gay bar

where our women and children, can go to mass one morning, and the father to go experiment with homosexuality that very night

Or how about open a department store that carries traditional Muslim dress, but they're never in stock!
Yeah! Let's also have a stand that claims to have "New York's best falafel" but have the falafel be really crummy and over priced. >=^]

Hey if you want to innocently open a mosque near ground zero, I will innocently open a gay bar near you...so much for freedom

You're my favorite joke account <3

I really hope he's actually going to go through with this.

So... Conservatives assume that Islam = pro-9/11

and to retaliate for the Ground Zero mosque, they now assume that Islam = anti-Gay

While either of these assumptions may, or may not, have basis in fact.... it's important to note that nothing about this controversy came from the mouth of a Muslim... it's all the assumptions of conservatives.

It'd be like protesting a conservative think tank near a national park because I just KNOW they're anti-environment, and to get back at them I'm going to burn this picture of Reagan, because I just KNOW that would offend them.

On the one hand, it is amazingly sad that essentially this is oneupsmanship using people's lifestyles in an arguably derogatory fashion. Imagine if this was 1850, and they instead said "colored" or "Negro".

"We'll show those Arabs; we'll stick 'em next to blacks!"

...on the other hand, I love NYC because stuff like this happens in it. I hope that he does go through with it and build a gay bar there.

I like this mans logic!

I also like this mans logic! Seriously though I would hope that honestly you could do that and it wouldn't bother either party, idealist thinking I know, but a nice one at least.

Most major religions are, but have you have read what can get you the Death Penalty in Saudi Arabia?

I'll say that being sentenced to death for being gay is something that as occurs mostly in Islamic countries, not all, and not only, but the majority of the time it is an Islamic country.

] Methods

Currently Saudi Arabia is one of the few countries in the world which still uses beheading (with a sword) as an official method of execution. Beheadings are preceded by the condemned being tapped of most of their blood and ingesting fairly large amounts of various drugs in order to reduce pain in case of a botched execution, as well as minimize prisoner movement and excessive flow of gore once the beheading is carried out.

Almost all executions are carried out in public (see Deera Square). There have been some crimes such as raping children where criminals have been crucified after execution.
[edit] Crimes

Saudi law allows the death penalty for a number of crimes. For example:

* Murder
* Adultery
* Rape
* Sexual misconduct
* Apostasy
* Blasphemy
* Homosexuality
* Drug smuggling
* Sedition
* Prostitution
* Witchcraft
* Idolatry

The only problem is they can't name it "Urges" I walked passed one on the 2nd Ave that already has that name.

What does Saudi Arabia have to do with the rather progressive brand of Islam that is the foundation of this community center?

Because I'm sure many homosexuals will frequent a bar run by gay-hating conservatives to be used as pawns against Muslims.

I'd love to see investor money roll in and the bar completely bomb.
This.

So? Christians are anti-gay... or at least I could just as much assume so as I would with Muslims.

It would be heavily douchebag of me to assume that someone is against gays if they don't even say so.... and then to use it as a weapon against them.

You're not even giving them the chance to "not comment" on homosexuality.... you're assuming it's their kryponite and starting the fight over it. Perhaps this is a progressive Muslim centre.. ? Haven't even given them the chance...

What if someone identified you as atheist and started baiting you over it? "Oh, you must hate Christians don't you?!" Assuming someone is an enemy of something is pretty unintelligent: and conversatives have now done it twice in relation to this Ground Zero centre.

That's why I find it so funny. It's like they think they're accepting the lesser of two "evils" or something like that.

It'd be hilariously awesome if Fox News actually managed to accidentally promote tolerance.

Is tolerance in the name of hate actually tolerance?

All mainstream Christian churches will openly welcome gays. The problem then is that once you start attending a church you're supposed to repent for your sin of being gay.

Hey, I was trying to be tolerant and not say Islam is the only Anti-Gay religion out there. I am saying as a religion Islam tends to be Anti-Gay, not individual Muslim adherents. Same with Jews, Christians, etc.

You have to be a fairly strange person to think this up as a response to a mosque building project.

Not really, more just creatively trolling.

Thinking to combine the threat of forcing oral sex on someone and burnint their house down is more the act of a strange person.

LOLOL.

Come on now. I don't think anybody, you included, can say with a straight face that Islam is not anti-gay. It's LAW. LOL.

So they are going to serve non alcoholic drinks to be sensible towards Muslims stance on alcohol but ignore Islam's stance on homosexual sex?

Way to pick your fights FOX! For the record I am not saying there should be no gay bar. They should have a gay, synagogue, and church right next to it with no issue but to use this backwards logic is hilarious. Not gay but if I was this would be infuriate me.

They're not the ones Americans supposedly have a problem with. If Americans have a negative view of islam it's not without reason.

Just like how Muslims have a negative view of Americans?

That's such a toxic mindset, I've always felt the whole 'judge the individual by his actions, not his group' is something that should be prioritized.

Am I to infer that to be American is therefore to not be Islamic?
