• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

Franchises you don't expect to come back this generation.

Crysis & Skate.

Probably a few of those titles EA started investing in (and eventually destroying) in the late 00s.

What I wouldn't give for a Skate 4 on PS4 though.

The number of Dead Space replies shows just how much that franchise needs a break. I think there will be reboot at some point, but hopefully not until the next generation.

Sonic.

After the wii u game i expect Sega to take a big long break.
Lost World reviews were mixed. And honestly, the game wasn't as bad as some made it out to be (the 3DS version was much worse).

If you mean Sonic Boom, Sega will just fire the dev team if it sucks.

Eh?

EM are currently working on the next one.

I'll add Timesplitters and Dawn of War to the pot. And a proper Age of Empires

They're not exactly new, but last year we got AoE2 HD and earlier this year AoM Extended. Oh, the things I'd do for the original AoE to receive the remaster treatment... but alas I think the fact that AoM followed AoE2 more or less confirms that too many of the source assets have been lost to time.

Metroid
F-Zero
Mega Man :(
Twisted Metal
Rock Band
Guitar Hero
Wipeout

And obvious ones like Earthbound and Shenmue, etc.

SW:The Force Unleashed. I'm not sure they know what to do with Vader since
he was taken away in handcuffs
at the end of the second game. I know, wtf!?!?! So much wasted potential. Hopefully, the new Battlefront won't suck.

Well, their are a few sadly :(.

Jak and Daxter: Between Naughty Dog making 'realistic' games now and many of the Jak team leaving Naughty Dog....I have little hope of the series getting reborn ala Sly 4 and R&CF: Tools of Destruction...

Nights: Sega tried to make a sequel for the Wii.....but they buchered it themseves (pushing Sonic Team to scrap the PS3/360 builds for only the Wii, the stupid on-foot levels, ect), leaving the series, I guess 'Dead' right now X(. I guess the Wii game might get a HD remaster like the original Nights did at least :).

2D Rayman: Yes, even though Legends came out on PS4/X1, the game bombed due to Ubi's really poor release of the thing :(. I can see them trying to put Rayman in 3D using elements from Origins/Legends but I think they are done with 2D Ubi Art Rayman X(....

MotorStrom: If DriveClub goes over well with everyone, I can see Evolution being pushed to make a sequel to it or take a stab at reviving a old Sony Racer (man, that Jet MotorStorm concept a Gaffer made during the GamesCom thread....really want that to happen :D!). But for traditional MotorStorm, I don't think it will come back :l. Don't think the series sold that well and it seems Sony is trying to cut down the amount of 1st party software they put out, so who knows :(.

And.....I'm putting this in spoilers to not be a prick :(.

Mega Man: Capcom more or less ended the franchise after the whole Legends 3 issue ("If ONLY their was enough support from the fans"....fuck you Crapcom X() I highly doubt they will try to reboot the series. Shame too considering how awesome Mega Man looks in Smash 4 :D; looks 1 to 1 like his 8-Bit self :'). I guess Nintendo might take a stab at the franchise if Capcom 'loans' them the IP (Sakari did something like this with KI via Uprising, so who knows :D), but honestly between Mighty No. 9 and Gunvolt, the Mega Man series seems to have been reborn under Inifunies own original games at least :).

Unfortunately, true. i feel your pain.

Though on the bright side, there seems to be more and more new franchises popping up that appear to be inspired by the PGR game play. DriveClub, for instance seems very PGR-like.

The main reason why I liked PGR 4 was the various challenges that were spread out between the races. Driveclub looks good, but I want something that has the narrow tracks in the city, cone challenges, and cat & mouse. From what I've seen, Driveclub has none of that. I guess what I really want is a closed track racer that can make what it has feel like a playground, that's what PGR did great.

Hopefully we'll see new IPs that go towards something like that, at the moment, Driveclub is the closest.

Didn't Miyamoto say that he wanted to make new 2D & 3D Metroid games?

Yes. When he was asked in 2012 which two game series he´d love to see on the WiiU, he said Starfox and Metroid.

The former is happening next year. It is just a matter of time untill we get a real Metroid game (or two).

Virtual On, Panzer Dragoon, Daytona, Fighting Vipers, Burning Rangers, Outrun and Worldwide Soccer.

Sega lost its soul last generation. It's very sad.

Lost World reviews were mixed. And honestly, the game wasn't as bad as some made it out to be (the 3DS version was much worse).

If you mean Sonic Boom, Sega will just fire the dev team if it sucks.

Lost World was pretty good. If you take away the wisps and the minigames, that both killed the game, it was one of the better 3D Sonics, right under Generations and Colors.
Also there is a Sonic Team Sonic game on the works for all platforms, it was announced many months ago along with Sonic Boom. Sonic Team will have a presence this gen.

Also, Metroid is coming, unless you're thinking Retro is doing another DK, and they aren't.
Nintendo officials have hinted quite a few times it's on the works.

On topic, i'm sure we won't see a Shenmue, most likely (and sadly) no Marvel vs Capcom, Castlevania, and i'd love to be proved wrong but no DMC either.

Likely Half-Life. If it does, it'll be at the very end. If not, then it'll be at the very end of the next generation after this one.

Also, Soul Calibur. I'd love to be proven wrong, but something tells me that V will be the last one for a while.

Any 3D platformer from the N64/PS1 era that so many people are dying to see a revival of. Crash, Conker, Banjo Kazooie, and Ape Escape ain't coming back. It's time to move on.
