No HD. I think the new satellite that went up earlier this year was supposed to enable AMC HD, but something's hit a snag and we still only get SD for now.

They more or less confirmed Michonne today, and I don't think they'd leave Tyrone out. They haven't been cast yet.

I'm just reading a news post over at Bloody Disgusting about it and they had this bit of info:

"-Darabont says he cannot wait to get to Michonne and Tyrese in Season Two, which has been confirmed and is a go."

And a nice little comment from Greg Nicotero.

"-FX artist Greg Nicotero said that AMC hasn't objected to any of the show's violence. In fact, the reel that they showed here at Comic-Con was edited because the powers that be would not let them show any of the gore. There will be lots of Romero-esque headshots."

Awesome news. I didn't know Nicotero was working on this. Effects should be awesome.

AMC HD works for me on TWC Queens. You might need a new box, although the service just sucking ass is a strong possibility. My HD channels were unwatchable for 3 weeks because of sound and video skipping (~50 times per hour).

The show tries to adhere to the comic, but it deviates at some points from it. And after reading the script, I'm totally ok with that tank scene.

I just watched it, and it seemed like an extremely standard zombie vehicle with some random music playing over it. Help me out here. If there is any exceptional cinematography, acting, or plot scenarios, it wasn't evident to me from the trailer. Is this "I MAED A TV SHOW WITH ZOMBIES IN IT" or am I missing something here?

I think everyone is excited because it looks like it will be a very close live action version of the comic, which is anything but standard. It's one of those things you'd get if you have read the series.

I've read a lot of the graphic novel and I'm a bit disappointed to be honest, especially after the "Breaking Bad with zombies" comparison I heard. The cinematography seems so uninspired, but I guess I shouldn't judge that until I see something that isn't off screen and overly small :lol

Who told you this is "Breaking Bad with zombies?" That's a senseless comparison unless they're trying to relate the two in terms of superb acting and writing (both of which BB certainly possess). I've read the whole series so far and I don't get the excitement either. I'm excited for the show itself, but the trailer isn't anything special.

For me, I'm excited about the whole package they've put together beyond the trailer. I like the source material. AMC is the right network for it, and it seems like they've been making great decisions about how to handle things so far from the scripting to production. Darabont is perfect to helm the entire thing, too. The trailer is just one of the first tangible pieces of what they've been putting together, so understandably there's some hype for it. I'm looking forward to seeing a good HD copy, and hopefully that turns up sometime soon.

I get your point that on a glance this may not be that different from other zombie-related media. But for me, I'm excited because:

1. It'd be a TV series. Movies is nice and all but there's only so little you can cover within 2 hours movie. With TV series mean you can have good characterization, plot that is more than just going from point A to point B. And more importantly, TV series basically just mean you'll get more attached to the characters and I always see this as a good thing.

2. Which brings me to this point: characters. I don't often find characters in zombies movie to be that interesting. "The Walking Dead", however, has a set of interesting characters. The characters are also multi-racial, which is still a rarity in today's TV series. And by multi-racial, I don't mean token characters here and there. The minority characters in this series are important characters that get quite a lot of development.

3. Media, advert, promotional materials. These are all interesting to collect on their own. After all, being a fan means looking for these things. Being a TV series mean we'll see more promo material than if it's just a random zombie movie.

Its more about the way people come off....I mean I guess it is hard to read between the lines when its on the internet. But you can still tell when comments are just mean spirited. You act like its just not fathomable to be super excited for this:

-one of the best new and hottest comic book writers in years
-best new(not so new anymore to some) comic in years(story is amazing pretty consistently every week)
-amazing director fully backing this tv show and really believing in it
-looks like so far the casting is pitch perfect


but I think what this truly means to comic book fans, is a real serial tv show that represents what we do on a weekly basis. Going to the store to pick up the latest issue and dive back into the world of "the walking dead". We not only get to read and look at really cool artwork, but watch it on a weekly basis. To me the trailer looked like a movie type production, and to get this on a weekly basis is going to be amazing.

So everyone has their own opinions, but really the ones just hoppin in and out of threads just to post negatively just come off like.......hey, let me just rain on everyones parade so I can say later I am not a sheep and get some "internet forum street cred". Its just as bad as ever loving hype and praise.....

Walking Dead is monthly, and that's if we're lucky.

The trailer in itself wasn't that great but I'm still quite optimistic. The source material is fantastic and Frank Darabont has yet to really let me down.

It's really hard to tell with the low grade version we've been watching, but I thought it looked good. People at the panel (Sepinwall, Hollywood Reporter, Onion A|V Club) all seemed pretty fired up about it, too. In any case, a little skepticism isn't a bad thing, and no one in this thread seems like they're trolling the show or hatin' on it.

It'd be great to see a good quality version of the sizzle reel sometime soon, though I don't know if AMC is holding it back to run on the air at some point or if we have to wait a little longer for a real trailer.

And my own love for genre stuff aside, I just think it's great that something like this is getting made as a major TV show. Seriously, what can you point to on TV either now or in recent history that is anything like this, on such an ambitious scale?

Yeah that's part of what makes me so giddy about the series - even though it's based on a zombie comic book, it's still being handled seriously and with a great deal of care by a network that seems to "get it".

That's the kicker, isn't it? I'm still a little unsure about the content given that AMC is no Showtime or HBO (or even FX), but it sure looks awesome. Only 6 episodes for the 1st season, though. The wait for S2 could be killer!

Pretty much everything I'm watching nowadays are from cable or premium channels, Network television simply can't compare conceptually or in terms of quality and scope.
