Ceiling cat knows I'm straight.

:lol :lol

This first time I saw Frasier, I thought "that guy sounds like a queer". There was no way to confirm my suspicion, but it was a strong one. I'm not surprised.

I thought queer was the accepted term?

Depends on the context. Like you can get a major in "queer studies." You know, just in case that major in womens studies isn't enough for that career at Starbuck's.

So:
"I don't wanna sound like a queer or nuthin, but Depeche Mode is a pretty sweet band" = derogatory

but

"Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" = enlightened?

Is this along the same lines of hearing the N word in hip hop but not really being able to use it?

Who said you can't post the N word on Gaf? It's more than welcomed. It's encouraged even! Do it!!

Good point.

I disagree. From the "fixed" responses it seems like straight males are not permitted to use it. On the other hand, homosexuals can label themselves "queer" and it's perfectally acceptable.

Who can say the N word thing is based on race, for right or wrong. No matter what your intent, a white person cannot say the N word in a good way.

The incorrect usage of queer is based on intent, not being straight or gay. Straight people use the word queer correctly all the time. The straight males who are tools cannot maintain the maturity required.

Nothing like each other.

they're similar but there's nothing more irritating than having to put up with what I assume are straight white men bitching about how hard they have it cuz they can't use certain words without coming off as an ignorant asshole.

fact of the matter is that if those are words you need to use in the first place, you probably are an ignorant asshole. this is above and beyond the whole "poor me I can't use words" shit that always is fun to deal with. let's see how many white people would trade their status in society as a race with black people just so they can use the word... or how about gay people? how many straight people wanna carry the cross that so many gay dudes have to? I could be wrong here but not using the word "queer" in a derogatory way on a message board is probably, just maybe, a little bit easier than being rejected by everyone you know and considered a second class citizen because of who you are.

it's just this whole bullshit built upon the philosophy of white people for the past 50 years which essentially boils down to "GIMME THAT ITS MINE!"

It got "fixed" not because you aren't allowed to say it. It got "fixed" it because it was ignorant. "Fixed" posts aren't moderation. They are a poster commenting on your post and having an opinion just like any other post. But of course you're going for the wounded bird posture. Well played! Well played indeed...

You're living up to that username. You are a rebel. And you don't play by the rules. I'm impressed.

After looking over my initial reply, "he sounds like a queer", it seems like I was a victim of poor diction. I assure you though, no harm was intended. In fact, I've had many homosexual friends. Key word is "friends". Not "victims of hate" or the like. When I worked in retail there were a few times I was hit on by guys. I didn't lash out at them, nor did I internally break them down. I found it amusing. It's the price you pay when you carry the heat. Sometimes it draws the same sex along with the opposite.

It's no big deal. I was mainly busting your chops. The Neogaf thick skin will come fairly quickly.

:lol i wonder how it must feel for guys like Pierce and Lance Bass to finally gather up the courage to make a life changing announcment like this and everybody's reaction is just "uhh...no shit."

The feeling is not in the shock you cause, it's in the honesty. I'm sure they felt pretty damn great. :)

No. Actually it was over but "Mr. Worst Post Ever" comes in with your usual keen intellect.
That's so cute--you think that it really was the worst post ever. Really, I'd imagine the "worst pst evar" to contain erroneous content.

I guess this guy deserves a medal.

never understood why people feel the need to tell everybody about them being homosexual. I can understand friends and family and stuff, but why do they assume everybody else is going to care.

Plus did he really think people didn't already know.

I'm sure most of them don't care. However the media follows them everywhere and asks them the question ad infinitum so either you come out or you keep it a secret in case you either don't want it to effect your career or you think it's nobody's business.

He didn't call a press conference. Read the link. They printed the name of his partner, and his reps confirmed it.

c'mon, the guy hasn't been running around saying bitchy things that implies that he's gay and rubbing it in your face. He's been mum about about it for years/decades, and makes an indirect statement that proves he's gay. I don't see anything wrong with that.

Niles was a great character. I don't see any reason to think the actor was gay. There are all kinds of people, just let people be themselves without social constructs assuming who they are. That's not fair.

At least it shows that they were accepting of it (more or less, I suppose). The reaction you don't want is, "OMG YOU'RE GAY!? I FEEL SO BETRAYED!" etc.

Seriously. It just doesn't get old. How did they get whatever that is to do that?? I'm sure we'll never know, but it's killing me! :lol Every single time I see it.
