I don't know if it has been posted, but Silber records has an entire page of free albums to download. Mostly shoegaze, drone, slowcore, etc.

Some amazing bands that are all well worth checking out.

http://www.silbermedia.com/downloads/

NWVM, Remora, and Thorn1 are my favorites....

It's like the internet opened up before me and said "You will never want for music again", and a cornucopia of music flooded my hard drive.

I thought that all music is free right now, with all those services like: bandcamp, soundcloud, deezer, spotify and youtube. I don't remember when was the last time I bought an album.

Being here I might share few bands from where I live. Just because of that they're indie.

Microexpressions - Alternative Rock/Avant-Pop/Prog Rock

https://soundcloud.com/microexpressions

https://soundcloud.com/microexpressions/sets/deep-snow-ep

Rycerzyki - Indie Rock/Sophisti-Pop/Post-Disco. It shares some resemblance with Sterolab. Stream free only.

Sorja Morja - Synth Pop/Electronic

So as I understand this thread is only for free to download or PWW music and not stream for free, right?

It's meant for PWYW/free, and we try to stress that, but you're welcome to post free streaming links. Just make it known when you post that it's a stream

Ok, thanks.

Drivealone - The Letitout (EP) (2007) - http://www.mediafire.com/?jdmg0yidjnn. Very personal and intimate rock album rooted in American alternative from the 90's. Link provided by the guy himself, so it's safe and legal.

It's so indie, i can't even find a streaming link, but it's a great album especially if you are into this kind of music.

And this Skozi Vejevje track linked by Toma reminds me of something. I can't quite grasp what it is, but it's a popular rock song, and it's driving me mad.

I've recently been searching for some new chill/electronic/alternative music to listen to, since I'm somewhat sick of listening to the same music all the time.
Chill/Relaxing music:
My favorite: Kasket Club - I discovered them late last year, and they recently released a new EP. Definitely will be listening to this one on summer drives. Their older self-titled EP is good too, but I think their newer stuff is better.
Work Drugs - Definitely a summer vibe, specifically West Coast Slide, Young Lungs, Dirty Dreams, and Tigerbeats
Nightbox - An artist I found that is coming out with a debut album soon, and released its first single, Burning
Little Daylight - They really only have 2 songs out right now. The one I like is called Overdose
The Colourist - Again, another artist with really only a few songs out. I like Little Games by them.
DWNTWN - A group with an electronic-base to their music and female voice. From them, I like Stood Me Up
CHVRCHES - They're growing on me, but the track from them I like is Recover
Teen Daze - Relaxing instrumental electronic music
Koi. - Similar to Teen Daze mentioned above. The first track on their album isn't great. My pick is Gauss

I know that this thread is mainly for free to download music, but I've found out that the whole discography of Phil Elverum is available on Bandcamp free to listen.

Indie/Folk/Experimental/Noise

As Microphones:

The Glow pt. 2 - This album has a place on my shelf next to Pet Sounds, Loveless and A Love Supreme.

Two others from the same period

It Was Hot, We Stayed In the Water - Most straightforward and conventional out of the bunch.

and Mount Eerie - And this on the other hand is the most experimental one.

As Mount Eerie:

Wind's Poem - Something gabbo may like.

Lost Wisdom - This is one of the most gentle records of his. Edit: For Toma that he won't feel left out.

Checked last few pages and it seems like Gabbo is really into ''sound walls''.

So many people seem to be into Gabbo too, considering what has been posted :P I think you were the only one posting some stuff that I was interested in (but havent checked out yet).

The music I review for the blog is actually a very small fraction of what I listen to overall, and that has to do with not only what is posted for free on bandcamp, but what we end up getting each time we scour the site. I don't really know what "sound walls" implies.

I read it as: You like to be drowned in recommendations ;)

That's basically the way I feel about music. I listen to everything, from clasiccal, jazz, rock to electronica and pop. And what I meant is that specific guitar noise used by shoegazing and elctronic artists - like Fennesz for example.

Usually taken even further by shoegaze artists by pretty much turning distortion, echo and reverb to the absolute max values.

Speaking of which...

Jesu - Jesu (The Released Picture Disc Mix)

Drone doom metal / Shoegaze

Should be interesting for any Jesu fans. I think the original CD mix is much better (and Broadrick would seem to agree) but this is interesting nonetheless (and free).

Sea of Bones - The Harvest

Pretty slow download speeds but it's worth the wait. Go for A la dérive primarily.

Played =()= recently (how do you call it, btw?;) and I really like the mood you've set up. It reminds me of Sword & Sworcery, except those terrible quick-time event fights in their case.

I have no idea how one would pronounce =( )=. Graphics are most definitely Superbrothers-esque but I don't think S&S:EP had been released for PC when I made =( )= (though I could be wrong) so that was as far as it influenced me.

I usually hate fights but they didn't bother me in S&S:EP for whatever reason. Perhaps because they were easy enough (for me), not all that common and did result in some real consequences (growing weaker) which is quite rare. I could buy that they weren't introduced just to make things exciting/gamey but actually served a purpose in the world/narrative (which doesn't mean that actually was the case, probably wasn't).

Loved the part when you're standing on the cliff and those birds gather around you, while they've been avoiding you before. For a brief moment I thought he's going to jump.

I grew up on action games, so I'm usually good at them, but I had to retry 2 or 3 times one of the fights and it really threw me away from the experience. The growing weaker mechanism was actually cool though. In most of the games it's the opposite - you're geting stronger along the line, so yeah, that was quite interesting.

When I wrote that I was only thinking of the story-fights. Now I remember all the annoying times when the spectre would be chasing me when I just wanted to go somewhere. Those fights (although they seldomly turned into fights) were really annoying. I get that they were there to make the world more imposing at that time but they didn't really do that; they were just an annoyance.

I think I only ever had to redo any one fight once. Redoing something once is acceptable without breaking pacing or immersion; as soon as it's twice or more it pretty much immediately kills it though, is my experience, so maybe that's why you had a bigger issue with it.

Why, oh why, do people keep putting sound effects in music videos?

Woaaah, just found my MP3 player again with all the to-be-reviewed music that I lost in my last PC crash. I just randomly listened to 15-20 tracks while being out and almost all of them were 4-5 rating-worthy. I need more time to write about all of these :(

Thankfully GAF has been looking for and posting damn good music in our absence.

Their albums only get progressively better with each iteration. This is the first demo one, which isn't as good as the later stuff, but it's free so...

I rather enjoy Invisible Elphant, though I seem to be remarkably alone in doing so.
