Yeah talking to myself. Eh Eh. I am talking to myself. *sing*

Anyway: Another singer you might like. female singer/songwriter. Very calm and (mostly) rather dramatic songs. I like her. :)

Lady Lioness - 2010 - The Glimmer and the Gleam

Link to... yeah you know the drill

Oh awesome, thanks for the link - I really like her voice :) Some say there's entirely too many singer/songwriter types nowadays, I personally can't get enough when the songs are quite so beautiful.

Glad you like it :)

Actually about the Singer Songwriter thing I had an interesting answer in an interview I did with Bill Coleman

Bill Coleman said:
Yeah. Hate that term, purely because it's got a terrible rep in these parts :-) As a descriptor of what I do it's accurate in fairness, just like you could describe Villagers, Jape, Gillian Welch, David Bowie, Elton John or Duke Special as a singer-songwriter. People hear the term and generally tend to groan and say "Not ANOTHER one!" Possibly because it's very easy to just be out some night and see someone, on their own on stage, with a guitar, only just starting to write songs, being very nervous, not playing very well, voice quavering because they're bricking themselves and it's very easy to dismiss that as crap (we were all crap once) because they're only beginning to learn their craft and this is what people most associate with the term "singer-songwriter". Once they put in five or ten years of work, become totally amazing and you're watching them on Jools Holland you probably aren't going to think of them in the same way.

Love this thread. :D

Anything out there similar to Kites? I really liked their albums, but was sad to find that they only have 2. :(

That HE only has 2. Single man project. Yup, couldnt believe it either.
I cant find lots of similar things as I really take what I can find in any Indie /Alternative Sub-genre. But if you like more rock inspired stuff check out Red Beard, The Walt or Stairs to Nowhere.

But Kites is triple A+ material so its hard to find music thats as good in the free music sector.

Oh man, she has an amazing voice. Thanks again for the link and updating this thread.

I'd like to rep this quarky pop band called The Very Sexuals. I heard them a year and a half or so ago. Seems like they've been busy since then. Their material is free on their site, it's well worth a listen.

There's a tumblr dedicated entirely to free legal indie music. Thought this would be something nice to post in this thread (and I hope that it hasn't been posted already!)

Nice! Thanks for the link! They have a similar idea behind their blog with the only difference that I am only doing albums. =) Maybe I'll find an interesting band to review or interview on my blog as well.

And yeah since I write up this stuff about free indie music anyway.. why shouldnt I update this thread? >_> Actually I would love to update even MORE threads like this if I could, but its somewhat rude to register in a forum just to advertise my own website. But I am glad some of you like it =)

The fact that you brought Kites into my as well as other's attention justifies this thread. Keep on updating. I really enjoy the bands you highlight here.

Another Update! Another Album mixing some electronic tunes in the mix but often reminds me of some songs by The Strokes. Might strike you as too "normal" at first but really moves the hips after giving those songs a fair chance.

White Arrows - 2010 - White Arrows EP

I am really glad though that you and others enjoy it =)
By the way, be sure to check out the Bruce Springsteen Cover version the last band (post above) made. Think it came out pretty good.

Murder by Death has all of their albums and ep's and splits (except their very first) streaming here: http://murderbydeath.bandcamp.com/

Please note: the images are not all their albums, the site is a little weird in that you have to click one of those and on the new page with all their albums down the right side.

I personally recommend Who will survive and What will be left of them for a first listen of the band.

Not to be picky or anything but I meant free albums as in free to download, own and share. I know that there are a lot of great bands out there who stream their music but this is not the same, if you know what I mean. With this I also aim somewhat at smaller bands and not bigger bands who decided to throw their fans a bone with a stream. Thanks anyway for participating in this thread, but please stick to "Free Legal Music" which you can also download :)

In case anyone is interested. I put up another Interview. This time with wHaTiF?, which I also reviewed on my blog. You'll find everything on the link.

Interview with wHaTiF?

Another heads-up, you (meaning Toma or anyone interested in more freebies) may like this tumblr blog I just found.

http://legalfreemusic.tumblr.com/

Mostly Bandcamp pages, I've noticed, lots of variety. May be worth plucking through it for the quality bits.

They are down now unfortunately, but hey I finally got my blog up again!
:P

New Update:

Symphony of Science - Indie/Pop/Electronica - 5/5

Alex Ananiev - Instrumental Postrock 3/5

In case anyone is still reading this: Sorry for the long break guys. But I made a program for myself to find and post music faster, so hopefully my motivation wont die too soon again.

Not indie but Cloudkicker releases his music for free, although I think the newest album might need to be paid for.

Thanks for participating :) But yeah, unfortunately not quite the music I was looking for.

In case anyone was interested in Mama Bear(which I had on my blog quite a while ago), Breakthru Radio station send me a link to their newest video feature, featuring Mama Bear's song "Old Man Trouble".
Thought I'd share because I dont often get mail about the bands I've posted a year ago :P

Breakthrough Radio: Mama Bear - Old Man Trouble

In case you are interested, this is the premise for the "Hear and There" feature:
BTR Hear & There features original and dynamic musicians performing live in interesting locations, all shot in beautiful HD video. New episodes every Wednesday from BreakThru Radio. http://breakthruradio.com

Don't believe I ever said this, but Magic Man's cd has been one of my favorite since this post.

Definitely, I dig their music as well. i want to put it on my website as well. Good stuff. Reminds me a bit of another Indie band, but I cant quite figure out which.

A friends band. I really enjoy it. Kind of like...funky...pop.

Did I miss something? Their music isnt free, right?

Indie band from The Netherlands.

The mp3 download is indeed not free but you can listen to it for free. Also on Spotify btw.

Yeah I should have clarified that somewhere probably. I am specifically referring to music you can download for free, so that you can put it on your mp3 player and whatnot, at least for my blog. Feel free to post your stuff though ;)

WTF...it used to be. That's why the site is called "FREE MODERN SCIENCE"

That's...odd.

Sorry guys. I'm not sure when they changed it.

Nah, doesnt matter ;) Thanks for posting anyway. Somewhat good free music is rare enough, I am glad about everyone interested and posting.

Everyone who grabbed Kites when it was still free was lucky. He decided to sell his music now. Good for him that he got well known enough :) Shame that he didnt keep his free album.

And another entry on my Blog:

Revenge Piñata - Hungry Gost [Electro/ Indie]

I like those guys but they have like.. zero mass appeal, despite making sorta pop music. If you dont like the style of the first songs, check at least the Instrumental Songs "Sunflower" and "Proximity Love Song" out, they are really good.

Brad Sucks

My favorite new musician of the century also happens to release all his music free and open source online. His music is a combination of acuoustic, rock, electronic, dance, and etc.

And this is my favorite song of his...the twang is fucking insane:

He also really loves Terraria and created a site aggragator similar to Digg and Reddit years ago that was...well...more entertaining then both of those put together.

There is no "download the complete album" option, is there? Only found the "Buy" options and single downloads for each song.

Ah, he charges now. This is very recent.

That said, apparently it's "pay what you will" and trust me, he's worth a penny. I'm the cheapest dude in the world, spending 50 cents on Humble Bundles for example, but I bought his album for full price after getting the tracks for free a few years ago. So that's saying something at least.
