Banana Nightmare - 2012 - Bananageddon - Electronic/Hip Hop/Rock/Pop

I think that was the first time in my life that I used the term "Less than the sum of its parts". So many individually good songs and talent here, that dont seem to come together.

*pick a record you downloaded 2 years ago by a band no one knew back then*
*starting to write the review*
*notice the bandcamp website is offline*
*find out they have 100k YT vids now*
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFM7qrU-Id4

Sucks for me, good on them ;p
Too bad they dropped their edgier stuff though. They had a nice hip hop collab on the record I downloaded a few years ago.

I had the same with The Cast of Cheers. Grabbed Chariot for free off Bandcamp a while back, now it's gone and they have a 'debut' album making the rounds on a proper label. Which I really ought to check out at some point.

Yes you should. Family is a worthy follow up.

Because its a neat tidbit of information:

Banana Nightmare had a cool project going on called "Project Free Your Voice":
http://banananightmare.com/album/pro...ree-your-voice
Flagship is the first song of "Project Free Your Voice". Project Free Your Voice is a charity initiative devised by Jono Wilson and Banana Nightmare.

In April 2012 they received lyrics from a young adult named Ben. Ben has autism (a neurological disorder that impacts on social interaction, communication, and behaviour.) He uses a keyboard to communicate, when encouraged by skilled communication partners. Ben is not yet able to speak or sing, but like all of us he has a song within. With Ben's lyrics the song "Flagship" was created.

After seeing the joy brought by allowing this individual to release his song within, the pair decided this was something worthwhile. Thus Project Free Your Voice was created. They aim to allow those who have complex communication needs to share with them the joy and benefits of creating music. Although only one song has been created so far, there are more songs needing to be heard and more stories to be told, and they are always on the look out for more lyrics from those with disabilities restricting their communication.

The song Flagship is guiding them and inspiring them to take a stand, in an effort to aid those with complex communication needs around them. All proceeds raised from Flagship and other Project Free Your Voice songs will be donated to the charity of the lyricists choice. In doing this they aim to support the individual and also help others with similar needs. We hope that you all enjoy Flagship as much as we have enjoyed "freeing Ben's voice".

If you know someone else interested in freeing there voice please contact.

I really love the idea and I hope they go somewhere with it. On a different note, the creator also contacted me, that they are now planning to edge out some of the discrepancies of the record and release them as EPs again that should turn out more coherent. And that he is going to release the instrumental tracks without the speech parts for easier relistening (basically one of my complaints in the review).

Oh and regarding the track "Hallowed be" on the record that was meant to be "against superstition and for critical thinking":
As for the song 'Hallowed', you might be suprised but you are among the few that have realised the actual topic of the lyrics. I included it in the EP exactly for its discordance with the remainder of the subject matter, an interesting exploration and perspective from "the other side" if you will!
Thanks again for the review and hope to talk another time.

Whaaaat. How can people not realize.

Totally unrelated to this thread, but since this is my one stop music thread and I rarely listen to other stuff anyway:
Simon and Garfunkel are pretty fucking amazing. Listened to some older stuff on YT due to nostalgia lately and checked out some songs by artists where I only knew a few songs. Totally hearing how they influenced a whole subgenre of music.

Talk Talk made me feel in a similar way. Month ago I only knew few most popular songs, but I dug up a lot of their stuff and lately I've been listening to them nonstop - The Colour of Spring especially, at least one time per day for a few weeks and I'm still not bored. I can see how their later records anticipated the whole Post-rock movement.

And some free music for the thread:

Ziz - Sjö - Ambient/Drone

Found this looking for a #screenshotsaturday games.

My favourite Synth-Pop duo lately Sorja Morja released two new songs for free.

I know it's been mentioned before by outunderthestars but I finally worked my way through to osme of the Silber drone that was posted about.

I've got Promute's Drone of the Norns playing, and I think I'm hallucinating to it.
Which would be great, if I wasn't doing homework. As is, my god. That's a keeper. If only they had a bandcamp page.

That is pretty good, especially Dark County. Do you guys have more or plan on making more?
Yep, full album is done, just waiting for a launch gig date to release.

We've done a viny release as well which has almost bankrupted us!

Good luck with that!

Hi everyone, first post here, so I thought I'd just do a quick introduction since I hope to contribute more to this thread.

I play the piano and write piano music myself. I have previously studied composition, now I study musicology at the university.

I would like to recommend the "CATGT (Caspian and the Good Times) series on this guy's soundcloud:

Welcome :) Nice to see someone else stumbling in here. The recommendation you posted is nice, I dont suppose they have a Bandcamp page, right?

Thanks, and I forgot to mention, great thread, I've been lurking it for quite a while before I got a membership :)

I don't think they have a bandcamp page, there's a danish sorta similar page called bandbase that they have, but actually as far as I know they disbanded, and the front-singer is doing a solo project now.

Could you link the other page? I am mainly looking for an integrated flash player of the album, so if Bandbase offers that it might work.

General bandcamp question here, how do they feel about medley's that consist of both original material and covers?

I think they have a rule whereby you state that you guarantee that you are the sole owner of your music, but I found so many cover songs on there that its probably more of a legal safety net for themselves if the musician ever gets into trouble about it, so basically not different from self-publishing it on your own website or YT channel.

Some of the better records I've come across on there are just that. If you're that worried, inquire with bandcamp and see what they say.

They say what I said above. I contacted them about it 1-2 years ago.

A local (kind of) band here has recently made a lot of their stuff name-your-own-price on bandcamp. Kite Flying Robot are a dancy rock 80s throwback band that are a good bit of fun. I linked to their remix album of Like Solid Gold, but I think people should check them out. They also recently successfully completed a kickstarter for their newest cd.

Edit: Here's a description of them I guess:

"Kite Flying Robot sounds like a textured, casio driven fun-fest with a horn section! Bass, drum machine, velvety David Byrne-esque vocals…who could ask for more? Sounds like: Falling down a retro, neon-streaked rabbit hole." - Independent Cause

I swear, if I hear this song's preview one more time, I will kill myself and then buy Spotify premium account. I don't remember when was the last time I've been longing to hear laundry detergent commercial so much, instead of this irritating crap. Sorry for OT.

Just to go even more OT:

Unfortunately, this video is not available in Germany because it may contain music for which GEMA has not granted the respective music rights.

!T@&$"!$!&@&"!!!!!

We are a tad overdue with another post, but I just found a record that is literally blowing my socks off. Will probably post it later today.

Finally got around to writing it, Electronica:

Pyramid - 2011 - Lost in Space

I love this thing so, so, so, so much. Reminds me a lot of a videogame soundtrack with a LOT of heart. It even has a Daft Punkey touch at times (in Fire for example), and man, I am in love with this record. One of my favourites this year.
