sounds like that video is talking about draining the water heater to let out built up sediment. That can cause a heater to not function properly. when was the last time it was drained any idea?

That would be a whore. I presumed you meant hose. That gets attached at the bottem of the tank to release the water. there are steps to it though. Can't just attach the hose and drain. gotta turn off the water line and the heater (im not sure how a gas heater is turned off though, never had one but I'd think there'd be a valve of some sort).

I had the same thing a couple of weeks back with a shitty old boiler (which weirdly could also be slang for an old hoe). Find your model and there will be some dork on youtube who'll talk you through the simplicity of fixing it (I just needed a screwdriver - hoe would be weird). Honestly should be pretty straightforward.

Trust me, I unscrewed an boiler drain cap by mistake and the entire thing erupted with black and nasty water. The kitchen smelled terrible for the next few years

They make gas ones and electric ones. If you are replacing the water heater look into it.

Yeah, tankless is definitely the way to go. Your energy bill usually drops too since it's not constantly burning energy to keep 50+ gallons of water hot 24/7 when nobody's even using it.

Those were standard in China, they work well get hot instantly. The idea of storing a tank of hot water and keeping it warm seems crazy now.

On the topic of water heaters... I gotta touch up a situation with a boiler in our family holiday house. Weirdly the main water supply is routed through the boiler, so the only way to get just cold water in the whole house is through this boiler, which seems to have carked it after... For however long it was. I think the innards still have swastikas on them.

There is some space to maneuver so I got a few options to possibly reroute cold water for constant supply but I will probably just replace the boiler. I got experience with long, hard pipes but I might have to buy a bunch of tools to get the job done.
Well, what I got, I got - and can use later.

He is talking about Durchlauferhitzer. Akshuly pretty good stuff, quick hot water on demand - while a boiler keeps temps up, even if you're not home.
