Fringe: J.J Abrams' new TV show (September 9 on Fox)

I hope I'll be there for the premiere. Been working a lot lately. Doesn't help that I have to fit two, possibly three, interviews sometime this week. :lol But I think I'm safe. I set a series recording just in case. Fairly new to TV dramas. Just downloaded a couple off PSN: 24, Firefly, and Prison Break. PB being my favorite thus far. Haven't watched Firefly, yet, but 24 was extremely good as well. Thought I might give this show a shot. Been hearing a lot about J.J. Abrams, what with Lost and Alias. Hope it's as good as those two.

Could someone let us know if the pilot is any different from the leaked version? I didn't watch the leak, but would like to know how different it is from the final.

I do know that the music in the leaked pilot was all placeholder and that the final one will be composed by Giacchino. Also, a few re-filmed-new scenes I THINK.

Do we know for sure it's Giacchino? I don't see it on IMDB or anything.

Here's excerpt from an interview with IGN:

The pilot to Fringe was leaked online recently and producer Bryan Burk said despite any rumors, "We didn't put the pilot online. We hate putting anything out there until it's done." Burk noted that there have been some changes to the pilot from the earlier, leaked version, including some new material, plus the addition of the final score by frequent Abrams collaborator Michael Giacchino

I posted in this thread about how I watched the first five minutes and was turned off by how gross and frightening it was. I was encouraged by the good people of NeoGaf to give it another chance. I just want to say Thanks. The rest of the episode was unbelievably awesome.

EDIT: OK, I thought it was another thread, turns out it was this thread, one page back.
 
Watched this last night.. it was actually quite entertaining -- the way they show the "location text" (e.g. where they are) is very clever and I got a kick out of it.

There's a good element of X-Files in it, and so far it's keeping my attention, I just hope the writing / production stays on the level of the pilot.


The version I saw was using music from LOST as, presumably temp tracks... I'll be watching tonight to see what's changed.

Indeed.. the show felt like it ran longer than a standard 42 minute hour long... it also felt like it had a few endings that kept going (a la ROTK).

There were ALSO a few times while I was watching, where I thought it was ending, and.. .since it was LOST music, I mimicked the whole "boom - LOST" sound expecting the episode to end.


In the leaked pilot, there was no end card.. but I absoloutely love the "Serial 70s horror" look of the FRINGE title card.. it's awesome.

Yeah, it's pretty weird. The first episode has a special length and will have limited commercials for tonight's premiere. I'm guessing it's about an hour and a half (without commercials). For the rerun on Sunday, the episode will be extended the full two hours so they can fit more commercials in. The following episodes will follow a similar approach but will be contained in the usual hour length broadcast (55 min per episode; 5 min commercials). Hope it starts a trend. Great way to capture the interest of channel surfers.
 
I watched the first episode. Didn't really like it. It reminds me of inferior television sci-fi ala Threshold. If J.J. Abrams wasn't behind it, it would probably be cancelled rather swiftly.

I'm tuning in. Just watched Prison Break's first episode again. Let's make it 2 for 0. Hope Fringe is in HD. The commercials and Lopez scared me. Will be such a letdown if not in HD.
