Fringe: J.J Abrams' new TV show (September 9 on Fox)

Can someone tell me what the hell is going on? I just started watching this show and I saw some woman with a cyber arm. So yeah. Is this the future?

The pattern is the thing that apparently she should have been privy to if she had clearance.

Anyone noticed the letter M inside the engine during the first scene between Dunham and Broyles at the airport? It looked awfully like the logo for Massive Dynamic.

Like a lot of people have said, good but not the best pilots Abrams has done. The most disappointing part was that as soon as
he said there was someone in the FBI that he's been threatened by, the only logical conclusion was John. And the biggest plot contrivance? Why would John show her the guy's face when he knew that it could lead back to him (yes, even though it was done subconciously, it's still lame!)

Not bad and will try to keep up with it. Good production values, newcomer "Kelly Lynch II" (Anna Torv) is a capable lead, and the rest of the cast provides the expected quality and had some entertaining dialogue to throw around.

Add: and Anna Torv is Australian. Good hold on the American accent, as it seems many Aussie actors manage to do.

Well let's be honest.

The pilot of Lost had a more obvious moment.

HEY I'M GONNA STICK MY HEAD OUTSIDE WHERE THE BIG MONSTER IS, 10 SECONDS AFTER I FIRST APPEARED ON THE SHOW. I DEFINITELY WON'T GET KILLED.

But yeah, fuck awesome. I hope this was a ratings beast.
 
Great pilot!:D Floating text was pretty cool but it sometimes felt like it kinda got in the way. :P Loved Walter and Peter's banter throughout the episode.

I hope we see more of Olivia's assistant.(I believe her name is Astrid?) That scene with the three of them watching Spongebob was one of my favourites.:lol

Definitely going to continue watching this. :)

Was thinking of watching, but I missed the premier on Fox. CTV's playing it about one hour and ten minutes from now, so I'll watch then.
 
So I decided to actually watch. Pretty good. Last TV I actually watched was Heroes Season 1, So its not like I had much to compare too. Kinda of obvious plot twist coming. But it seems to set up nicely for the rest of the season.

But what stole the night for me was "Hole in a Wall"...Wow:lol Watching it now and I still haven't stopped laughing:lol
 
Wow great show, I loved it and give it two thumbs up. It reminds me of a combination of Lost, X-Files, and the Outer Limits. Definitely going to continue watching this.

Actually I thought it might have been
the guy in charge of the FBI investigation. I thought it was going to be something stupid like he wanted to test her to see if she could handle this line of work by infecting the one she loved in order to make sure she could handle more difficult cases.

I think it was just as simple as he wanted to live. He didn't know the guy ever recorded him so how would he know she would find out? He figured he'd kill the guy and that'd be that, but he got fucked even if he is going to come back it seems

I think this show has huge potential because with everything introduced in this show, they can have an ongoing mythology storyline and "whatever of the week" episodes. So it can be a really good mix of the ongoing and singular episodes.
 
I just watched it without knowing it was coming. I will watch again even though:

1) It is trying to be a little too serious a little to hard.
2) The special agent in charge delivers every line like he is either holding in a dump or thinks every word he says is EPIC! (read with a little crescendo there)
3) As mentioned already so far doesn't handle reveals or plot twists in a subtle manner at all.

The show felt more Twilight Zone/Outer Limits to me.
 
I thought it was pretty meh. There isn't a pilot out there where they show a main character in love with someone else (but not married), and the person that they are in love with either dies or is evil. Here we get both. :lol

Eh, it was okay. Somehow, this show is just not grabbing me that much.

I mostly had an "uh-huh, yup, okay" reaction to most of the stuff, not enough "oooh, this could be interesting".

Welp, you can't like them all.

Yeah, thats the thing about Fringe that most excites me.

plus, a Whedon is onboard is never a bad thing.:lol
 
Meh. It has high production values, so I'll keep watching it. Not a bad pilot, but not electric. Felt extremely contrived.

The whole time I was watching it I thought "They played an adventure game and decided to make an entire TV series out of an endless string of fetch quests."

So, basically you're excited because it sounds like every serial on TV? Because what you wrote could be the exact description of Lost, Heroes, X-Files, Smallville, and about a billion other shows.

eh, I hope this show has an ongoing plot that can hook me the way Lost did, cliffhangers and all. If the writing staff has a fleshed out seasons-spanning storyline with a conclusion already in their minds... I wouldn't want it to even delve into singular episodes that wrap up in an hour. It'd feel like a waste!

anyways, as pilots go this one's hooked me somewhat. I'll always give a show at least 3 episodes to get into some sort of stride
 
They did a good job cutting some fat from the leaked pilot. A much stronger first impression for those who waited until now, I'd say.
 
Well this certainly is from the writers of Transformers, they got their "no no no"s in while Dr. Bishop was freaking out in the hospital, lol.

I'm only in the middle part but so far this is kinda meh.

Is it that significant a change? I watched the leak and was really not impressed, and I want to like it. I may have to give the re-cut pilot a try. Maybe it flows better. One of the things I disliked the most about the leaked one was the pacing, though it has other problems beyond that.

Yeah - my opinion of the show (which you can read in great detail at my blog, if you wish) didn't change, but there was something about the new pilot that felt leaner. It maintained what makes the show work, the character interactions and the broader science conspiracy stuff, but it just felt like the pacing was totally different. Mind you, I was writing my review while rewatching, but with just a few tweaks it seemed like it was definitely a slightly stronger pilot.

I think that, while it lacks the electricity of Lost or Alias' pilots, it also seems like it best demonstrates a series setup. I'll compare it to Pushing Daisies - a pilot that does a good job at selling the characters and the world, so much so that even when the end structure of the series is more procedural there's a foundation of interaction that will keep the show interesting in areas outside of its base connection to a genre oft-considered condemned by more critical viewers.
