It will be like Lost where they just keep adding new characters to keep a story going. If they were going with an X-files vibe I think they did not choose characters with enough chemistry. Charlie from Mighty Ducks just doesn't fit. And why did they feel the need to use the exact same growing slighty louder noise --> to black screen thing that Lost uses?

Though I loved that Denethor was in it and the cybernetic arm looked really cool but it the conspiracy with a big bad conglomerate angle has been played out.

I liked the chemistry between the three leads (and all promo art tells you they won't be pulling a LOST in terms of adding cast members. There has like never been a LOST ad with less than ten characters on it.)

Noticed some fat rolls on her did you?
Oh shut up. Her acting didn't really do much for me, and she's just not on the same level of attractiveness as other female leads from other shows.

Not to say I wouldn't fuck the shit out of her given the opportunity...

Costanza, you're an awesome guy, but this is wrong.

She very, very hot.

I had somewhat low expectations going into last night's pilot and I'm happy to say that it blew me away. I think they had me at "Let's go make some LSD!" line. I wasn't expecting it to have quite as much humor, and I really didn't expect the
science fiction, near-future level technology, the most obvious being the Terminator-style cybernetic arm
but I thought it worked. It really felt like a mix between Lost and The X-Files and that's a great thing. The season preview was pretty exciting as well
(morphing babies!)
. I'll definitely be watching this every week.

The awesome thing is how they did that MM commercial at the end and the focus on the MM billboard . Felt like MGS4 :lol

I was really impressed with the show last night. I expected it to be at least interesting, given the talent involved, but I was genuinely entertained from start to finish. I think if the quality stays on par with what we saw last night, Fox has a real hit on their hands.

Show is fuckall amazing. I hope FOX doesn't cancel it.
Love the mythos already, and this was just the pilot. Can not wait for more.

That being said, anyone care to make a gif of Dr. Bishop saying
Let's make some LSD
? Because that was a hilarious 1 liner.

Anybody else feel like the lead was basically a Jodie Foster knockoff?

The episode was okay, but for some reason it felt a little cliched to me and that everything fell into place too easily. I'm not saying that I won't watch any more episodes, but the storyline just didn't do it for me. Some parts were cool, but the whole Contact-like sequence along with some other story points were kind of meh...

-guy being in the psych ward for 17 years can magically help out using antiquated equipment that's been left in a basement at Harvard
-Joshua Jackson's character being so involved - where's his motive?
-him being the one to catch Steig and even being able to get to Steig in the interrogation room
-her boyfriend was a bad guy - we knew they had to get rid of him somehow to play up the new love connection with Jody Foster, er...I mean Dunham
-there's more, but I won't pile on
- one more thing - I was surpised that Steig was wasn't actually some sort of clone or alien

Still, I guess I'm a sucker for conspiracy-type themes like the X-Files, so I'd like to see where it goes. I just hope that the writing gets a little better.

At no point during the exchange between John and Olivia was there evidence he knew he was dying, nor did she hinted/implied it. I specifically recall that because I kept waiting for her to say it but she didn't. She only said that by remembering the guy's face will help her catch him, which John would not want to do.

You must have missed it, but it was implied that John was in a fatal state. After all, you can't really keep someone in the dark when you're shedding a tear, telling them you need their cooperation to find someone who did "this" to them. A few more questions for you if you still don't believe... Why did John take so long to show up? How come he was hesitant forthcoming? What was his aim by purposely finding the suspect, what with their table dealings? Why did he give Olivia that kind of information in the first place if he wanted him dead? He was playing the game the whole time. Besides, there are other lines that suggest as much. I would need a look at the script to pinpoint what exactly suggested his current state as I don't remember. Still, I believe you have all you need to reach said conclusion.

Anyway, the other thing that really bothered me was how much pull Olivia had. At first she was completely under Broyles's whim and was very frustrated because she had to do the investigation his way. However, as her demands became more and more outrageous in order to save John (yes, professionalism completely out of the window), she was able to cut corners and make things happen without Broyles's involvement. Yeah, really believable there -_-

She was acting on a hunch. Broyle's wanted more to go on than just that. So he agreed to allow her to gain the evidence she needs to plant a conviction. Due to the time constraints John's condition presented, not only did Olivia find enough evidence, she acted faster than authority allowed. By doing so, however, she was able to operate efficiently and crack a case that few could hardly dream of. She won his approval. He respected her and offered a job more suitable to her strengths. While TV shows may not have the most believable plots, I do think you're pulling teeth here.

i fell asleep halfway through. i blame the fact that i get up at 5:30am and not the show itself, which i found pretty entertaining. the crazy scientist dude was hamming it up big time though.

I thought the premiere was solid. I liked some elements of it, but thought others didn't work so well. The dynamic of the main characters seems good though, and the show seems to have a lot of potential. Sort of an X-Files vibe going on.

Seems like you're trying to find things to nitpick about. It's a sci-fi TV show. It's not supposed to be believable. Neither is any of the real world stuff on Lost, but who cares?

Maybe I am, but there is a concensus that there are problems with the plotting of the pilot. Anyway, my problem was with the consistency within the context of the show. Rather than the believability of the whole thing.

That's your interpretation of the scene. To me the reason why it took so long for him to show up is because their brain waves were still syncing up as Bishop have explained what needs to happen before they can communicate subconsciously. Maybe he's more nefarious than he appeared to be. I just don't believe he would choose to reveal who the culprit is to protect his secret, I mean look what he did in the end which led to his death anyway. It's a plot device so Olivia would have more information than if she never found that guy, but otherwise, it makes no sense.

Well, she was really great in Heavenly Sword. I'll see how I feel about her in future episodes.

I'm the exact opposite. I thought she was really great in Fringe and had no idea she played Nariko, but now I'm tempted to check that game out.

Yeah. That guy... is not a good actor. :lol

This is all I can find:
In the early metered market numbers, Fringe pulled a respectable 6.4/10, (household rating/share) but that’s less than I thought it would do. It’s not possible to derive viewers from the household rating but a 6.4 household rating would be about 7.3 million homes and probably wind up in the neighborhood of 9 million viewers. I expected it to definitely clear 10 million viewers, so we’ll see what happens as we get better data.

So this is like the new X Files. It's not flowing with originality but i really liked the 1st episode.

The thing it bugs me though, is that i doubt they will be able to maintain this level of budget in further episodes, car chases, crashes, CGI, i think it was all pretty awesome, but maybe a a bit too much because the rest of the season might look "underbudget" in comparison.

Anyway, cool episode.

I'd watched the leaked pilot a few months ago, is there anything different in the "final version", besides probably some FX and the title sequence?

They did a good job cutting some fat from the leaked pilot. A much stronger first impression for those who waited until now, I'd say.

I'd hope you get a more detailed response. 'Cause I think this is all that came up in the thread.

hell yeah. That spoon episode was the best!

Bad news though, I really really liked the show. Which means it will be canceled shortly.

Eh.. just watched the pilot. I guess it has potential, but FUCK, was it cliched. And the lines, and the acting were just.. I dunno. Not the best. Character wise, definitely not as compelling as LOST, which is what Id have to compare it to coming from JJ Abrams. Definitely not on the same level, more of a B-show feel. Gonna watch the next ep though, and Ill decide from there.

Yeah, the pilot didn't have the character impact that other Abrams projects have.

I'd thought Fringe would be closer to Alias, especially in characters, but it came very short. Right now, the female and male lead don't have the charisma or standing that Sydney Bristow and Michael Vaughn had.

I don't know, I recently went back and watched the first few episodes of Alias. The character development was pretty shallow early on. I got a real early Alias vibe from it.

Saw the show today, and thought it was bad. I kept comparing it to the lost "pilot." When watching the show I expected something epic, but it just seemed like one of those "scfi-channel shows. That main actress didn't help at all and seem to be the miss-cast, since the rest of the cast was fine, including "Pacey." That assistant FBI girl in the lab was hot, anyone know her name?

Hmm. That Pilot was a huge dollop of BLAH. I was expecting there to be some points of interest, but it just felt like a really bland, dumbed down knockoff of better shows like The X-Files. It brought basically nothing original or exciting to the table.

Didn't like any of the character interactions either. Anna Torv showed next to no personality, aside from being a hottie.

A lot of the dialogue was also just awful with waaaaaaay too much exposition. "I just pissed myself." "Just a squirt." WTF. Was this an attempt at humour? Horrible.

The ending close up of the leaf and Michael Giachino's ridiculous strumming strings of revelation made me laugh out loud. Does he not realise there should be something of note dramatically when you do that? He does it all the time in Lost and it annoys the shit out of me.

I'll give it a few episodes, but i'm not very impressed.

This show sucks. JJ is a lazy bitch and is horrible at everything, which is why he handed LOST off to two incredible guys.

Anyway, give me Dollhouse, FOX. When is that airing?

January. :)

Ratings are kind of dissapointing. :/

If the same amount of people come back next week though, I think the show will be fine.

Alias was awesome because of Garner and Fringe has........what's that blond girl name again.

JJ Abrams' shows fall into two categories, Lost (Good) or 6 Degrees (Bad), hope Fringe improves.
