Awesome news. Although to be honest I have been getting a bit tired of the show. Glad the last season is only 13 episodes. Here's hoping it ends well with quality episodes throughout.

Have you rewatched that "what's in the briefcase" clip from season 2? They flat out told us
the Observers were trouble
two seasons ago. We just all forgot about it.

No... I don't remember the scene either... Tried googling for it but only found forum posts about... Do you have a link for that?

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

As someone just starting the 2nd season after an awesome 1st finale, i am so pleased with this. Nice when folk do right by good tv.

Woohoo!

Please take place in the future. Please take place in the future. Please take place in the future.

Please kill Olivia. Please kill Olivia. Please kill Olivia.

But not Fauxlivia. But not Fauxlivia. But not Fauxlivia.

Okay, now there is another season coming, I want to know why GAF thinks the latest episode was a 'back door pilot' for the next season?

That makes no sense. A backdoor pilot is when one show uses an episode to launch another show. Thats not the case here. I think some people were just getting their terms confused.

With this many episodes they'll probably only be able to get in 3 or 4 "evil scientist doing something evil for love" episodes.

That's why I used apostrophes, I just meant why do people think Season Five is in the future.

And considering who appeared in the last episode
Bell
, I doubt 3 episodes will be enough to explain him. And add September's comment to Peter in episode 14 when he said something like "they're coming" it's pretty obvious he's referring to the other observers.

Well, I think most who are leaning that way (which is not me; I want S5 to be 2036, but I don't think they will do that) are doing so because last week's episode is completely irrelevant if they don't come back to it.

I have been stuck at work all day since the news broke, but here we go.

This is the best possible thing that could have happened for the show and the fans. We just came off of a very strong episode that hinted at a potential next season (strong to many, complete shit to others), and a lot of uncertainty. The love that the network execs have for the show is evident, as is the love of the dedicated fan community, and it is only because of that we are getting a final season.

It is perfect because now we know for a fact that this is it. The end of all things. Knowing that the show is over after these 13 episodes will let them plot out and end things on their terms. And 13 episodes is the perfect amount as well. All meat, no filler. (I hope). While I have enjoyed season 4 immensely, it has been a significant step down from the perfection of season 3. This shortened order as well as knowing they have to end it should revitalize the show. Just look at what that did for Chuck in the fifth season.

So, FringeGAF. Be thankful. Be merry. Get some red vines and LSD to celebrate.

And for Solo, who was lamenting the lack of good sci fi on TV. I am with you. Thankfully it looks like we have at least one more season of Supernatural on CW next year (not confirmed, but pretty damn assured), and that would give that show 8 years. If you have not watched it, it is a lot of fun. Lots of MOTW stuff, but also a lot of mythology. It is just simply fun.

I don't think that's really true. If nothing else, it gives viewers a respectable explanation for why their daughter is important, she allows them to return to save the world. There's plenty of content left to explain, most of it taking place in the distant past in fact.

I dunno. It doesn't sit well with me if its not revisited and expanded upon in S5. By contrast, the future jump episode in S3 worked as a standalone because it was working on almost a Christmas Carol level of "this is the future unless you do something to change it". That one felt self contained by design. The S4 one does not. It feels like a launching point.

Good news! Hopefully this could be as much as an event as the LOST finale but without the aftertaste.

If it ever seems like it's slipping just stick with it.

I certainly agree it's not like the S3 thing which did feel standalone. I guess it's just me hoping it's not the show's immediate destination. It seems too late in the season to do this as a foreboding to the end of this season in anticipation for the continuation from the start of the next season, if that makes sense. It would have been better to do this much earlier, and have the events of the rest of the season build up to the moment they get encased.

My guess is that the season ends with Olivia getting preggers. S5 starts with a 4 year time jump with Etta at 4 years old. The team gets encased in amber early on, and within a few episodes, S5 has essentially picked up right from Letters of Transit.

I think the plot arc of Season 5 can take us through the events leading to them being ambered, with the finale picking up where "Letters of Transit" left off.

That's my guess if they actually plan on making Letters part of the continuity.

To be honest, I wouldn't have really cared before last week's episode. It rekindled my faith in the show's ability to have good ideas and to make cool things happen.

Thank you, link :P

And wow, totally had forgotten about that one. Damn, that does make my impression about the episode a whole lot better...

The reminder and that clip really does bring a lot of it into perspective. I think most all of us saw that episode, I had just sort of written it off as the guy being crazy or not understanding the observers.

That shit really blew my mind when I watched it again after this latest episode. They really were planning this angle all along. Thats some Babylon 5 level callback shit right there.

Reading the thread, I think the should be sufficient warning about spoilers. Seriously. For people that have not seen the show (who probably arent in here, but still) this thread is a minefield that is untagged.

The biggest mystery at this point to me is what happened to redverse after the observers took over bluverse?
Considering some of the hints in "Letters of Transit," along with the current DRJ storyline, I'm wondering if the universes end up being merged.
