Future Shop Canada stores now closed

they used to use certificates until last year where they copied futureshop because more people wanted the savings upfront.

Huh?

All my E3 preorders are with Best Buy and a gift certificate was never involved.
He's talking about the first year. The first year FS knocked $20 off of each game while BB gave RZ points equaling $20 when you paid full price for the game. In essence the FS deal was 3 games for the price of 2 while BB was 4 games for the price of 3.

Oh, dear.

RIP E3 deals. I will miss you.

I have friends who worked at the Broadway location.

They were all fired, except for one of the managers who was transferred to Robson. The Broadway store's definitely closed.

That sucks, but aside from being the first FS, the location wasn't great. Every time I went there it was super quiet.

The downtown location is pretty central so I can see why they'd keep that.

At the time BB bought FS, I can see how the redundancy would force out the smaller competition. It probably worked to get A&B Sound out of the market. But nowadays the future is online, and stores are pretty much pickup/return locations.

I'll miss the FS steelbooks.

I'm putting money on the Robson & Granville location being converted into Best Buy. From what I've heard, it's one of their "AAA" stores that's in a key location that sees a ton of traffic from locals and tourists. My local Park Royal store in West Van might not make it, though. They might want to keep the Marine Dr. store open instead.

Did you ever go to the store on Marine Dr.? That place was worthless.

It was the greatest thing ever, I've still got a few games locked in at $40 left. I wish I had pre-ordered more titles.

Is it even confirmed to happen this year? Anyway, with the dollar the way it is, preordering may not even be worth it. We'd be paying $60 per game right? Nah, fuck all that noise. Either someone offers a deeper discount or I'll just wait for prices to drop.
