GAF, convince me to buy a 360

felipepl said:
Not exactly... had 3 360s already, all 3 3RL'td, so I said "fuck MS".
But... the last one was 2 years ago.
What the f? Why do you want to be convinced to buy a 360 when you already know exactly what the system does, what it's good for and what the downsides are?

The only thing that has changed since then is that the console is quieter now and that it'll most likely not break (as fast).

If I were you I'd not buy one again. You've given Microsoft three chances to convince you and they've failed three times.

3 broke and you consider buying one more? I hope you at least had warranty to replace those.

I only have one 360 that barely gets any use (2007 model), can't imagine I'd ever replace something that broke on me not once, not twice but three times.

If you like racing games a good ffb wheel is a way better investment than yet another replacement console.
I had no warranty as it wasn't sold "officially" in my country 'till more or less 15 months ago. So yeah, lost money 3 times, but I really liked the console. Fact is, a 4th console was absurd, so I forgot about it.

But now it seems that the new Slims are pretty silent, reliable and etc... right?

I have a great PC (6950, blah blah blah) and I recently bought a 360. I wanted it mainly for Guardian Heroes and Forza 4 but I am damn happy I did.

Edit - It seems this your 4th Xbox ? Hmm

Xbox is worth buying for these games.

Because a lot of games were released in this time span and I'm still looking for some more opinions about the reliability of the current model.

Crackdown is reason enough.

But XBLA is a totally underrated reason to own an Xbox 360.

But you're already excited about Gears 3, which judging by following the development process is going to fuck up all manner of shit.

Kinect is far better than it's given credit for on GAF.

Dance Central alone is worth the price of entry and apparently Gunstringer is the shit.

edit: Slim consoles are fine. I have 2 of them and neither has skipped a beat. Got the regular glossy S and the Halo Reach S.

As a PC gamer myself I would consider either ps3 or wii, x360 seems very redundant, but your tastes may vary and you might really, really like the exclusives. The other two consoles just offer way more of a different experience in my eyes.

XBLA, Tales of Vesperia, Vanquish, Bayonetta, Assassin's Creed port delays, Halo and Red Dead Redemption were my reasons to pick one up back in December.

Yeah, it's more reliable. One if my coworkers bought one (slim) and it broke after two weeks but they usually seem to be okay.

I have never connected my Xbox 360 to the internet. It just seems like too much of a hassle and too technical for me.

Fool me once, shame on ...shame on you.
Fool me ....You can't get fooled again.

Don't do it.

Some of the big 360 titles will find their way to the PC sooner or later, and most of the games you'll be playing (Vanquish, Dark Souls etc.) are also available on the PS3.

Thus, getting a PS3 (which also has more - and better imo - exclusives than the 360) would be a much more reasonable choice.

Plus, 3 consoles have already broken on you dude. Getting a 4th(!!!!!) one would be out of the question for me...

Yes the slim, is A LOT more reliable, but this has been the case for a while with the revisions to the motherboard, etc. Don't remember all the different names Jasper and all that jazz, but they have been pretty reliable. That said, like all electronics, they can still break. For me, Gears 3 is enough to justify having this console. The beta was unbelievable, for me. If you have games that interest you, I don't see why not. If you think you're not going to play the games then you probably shouldn't bother. XBLA is full of awesome games, which aren't all available on PC which might also interest you.

Except you know.. GOW 3 and FM4, which he specifically mentions, or a lot of other exclusive 360 games.

I've been itching to buy a 360 in the past few weeks just for GoW 3 and FM 4, but I'm not totally sold yet.

My PC is pretty great (GTX 580, blah blah blah) and I have everything that interests me on the 360 and has been available on Steam.

I may like some Kinect based gaming, but AFAIK, Child of Eden is the only non-gimmick-decent game so far.

Should I stay our should I go?

I got convinced to buy an 360. I played Forza3 and GoW2. Now it just streams media into my bedroom from my pc... Not hating, but you seem to be in the same place as me gaming wise. My suggestion: BF3 + 4 more gigs of ram.

The new models are infinitely more reliable than the older ones.

I've heard that for a reasonable fee, the Geek Squad from Best Buy can help out with tricky technical stuff like this. Give em a call!

Hmm, I'll look into it.

Thanks! You are a true friend.

You're insulting console owners for owning a console, and yet you want them to convince you to buy one? What a dick thread. Threads like these should be locked.

I bought a 360 recently for red dead, Forza 4 and GOW3 but I know by the new year it will be sold to someone who will appreciate it more than me.
The reason I will sell is to gain funds for the upcoming Christmas steam sale.
Xbox arcade is a fantastic thing but with Mame as long as you have the arcade board, what's the point?
Also the 3DS haz no games quote threw me off a little.

XBLA isn't the same as an actual arcade. It's just a digital storefront for a lot of polished and creative content. It's where most of the 360's best exclusives can be found.

I tend to have a rule of 3. If you can find 3 must have exclusives then you can justify a console purchase.

XBLA has more than made up the bulk of my time on the 360, most of my games i tend to get on the PS3, so my GF can borrow them, but Cave shooters, and XBLA.

why the fuck would you do this?

wasted money, get the new PC releases with that.

Terrible advice.

Maybe you don't want to play XBLA games, Gears 3, Red Dead Redemption, Dark Souls, or Forza 4 .. but smart people do.

Plus, he can just buy every single PC game released this year for less than $10 next year.

It depends on your taste in games.

I own both consoles, and a reasonable PC. The PS3 certainly has more to offer in the sheer number of exclusive games. Plus, added functionality like Blu-ray and free online. But XBLA has an obscene amount of amazing games, shmups don't live anywhere else, and there are some pretty heavy hitting exclusives. I would take Halo Reach and Geometry Wars 2 over anything on the PS3...

At this stage in the 360's life, if you can't find a reason to own one then you're not looking for the right games and not looking hard enough.
At the moment the 360 is a bargain.

Lakitu said:
This.

The 360 has one of the best libraries of shmups on any console.

Gears 3 is a fantastic game, and I don't even like dudebro games.

Also, a 360 with the Dance Central TV adapter Kinect and Dance Central is one of my favorite gaming experiences of this generation.

Oh shit, when did Bayonetta come to PC?
When did one game warrant buying a console?

And you should have said ninja gaiden II.

If it's for exclusives then he should buy a ps3 , at least there are more than 2-3 of them that aren't also on pc.

If money is tight how about saving your money for unexpected costs like most EU people would do.
