GAF, convince me to buy a 360

If you have to be convinced you don't want it.

Fixed.

Use the money to buy more memory or whatever. You're clearly above RDR, all the Halos, Bayonetta, Mortal Kombat, DOA, Alan Wake, Tekken, Gears, Forza, Dance Central, Child of Eden, Crackdown and other mediocre console titles.

I don't see the joke. And the OP lives in Brazil so who is he to call anyone a peasant

When you spit down on the console peasants you can pretend to speak from a position of authority by saying "I own both so I know. Bla bla bla..."

No, I wouldn't. Buy other games for the PC, you're not missing exceptional experiences that aren't replicated elsewhere with other lores.

Edit: The reception of this thread is wonderful. All the misplaced anger in this thread.... You all deserve decent rigs to discover PC gaming! Join us!

You will be disappointed with the console games coming from a PC with that sort of video card. I would almost compare it to going back to the N64 from a PS2 in terms of picture quality. I just can't do console picture quality anymore.

Don't forget while the box itself is not a huge investment, once they get it in your house out come all those hidden little costs that up.

Console exclusives are the only real good reasons. Then again maybe your setup favors consoles for comfy couch goodness, assuming you can't do it with your PC for some reason. And of course if you have a bunch of friends to join up with if you take the plunge.

why the fuck would you do this?

wasted money, get the new PC releases with that.

Because, man. It has Vanquish, Dark Souls, Armored Core V, Guardian Heroes HD, Hard Core... What does the PC actually get this month (or shit, even this Fall) if you're an action/arcade gamer? Fucking Renegade Ops and, like, Hard Reset... that's about it.

The OP's thread is after my own heart. I'm experiencing the same anguish. I have a solid mid-range AMD PC that can run everything modern, but there's still too many third party games that stay exclusive to consoles. I'm trying to hold out to see if there's a price drop for the Xbox in November.

It's going to be weird to go back to 720p when the minimum I'm used to is 1600x900, not to mention having to change optical disks, but the PC isn't as great as PC players think unless you're totally into playing RTSes, FPSes, Street Fighter, and emulators all day long. There's nothin' here, dudes. SSF4AE is the only modern fighter in circulation unless you want to set up MAME with GGPO, while PS3/360 players have other choices like BlazBlue and KOF. Yes I know you can pirate the arcade version of BB:CS but fuck it because it has no online connectivity. Having old-ass, outdated Calamity Trigger on the GFWL marketplace does not count.

When top Japanese talent comes to Steam, the fuckin' master race can start actually feeling like they're the master race. Wake me up when we get the latest version of VF5, or Anarchy Reigns, on Steam instead of this. At least my productivity has been higher ever since I decided I'd just invest my money in PCs over the years instead of getting a modern console. Sorry, this turned into a rant.

Well...

Hard Reset, Serious Sam 3, Red Orchestra 2, innumerable TF2 updates, Battlefield 3, MW3, Dead Island, WH4K Space Marine, Wasteland Angel, Renegade Ops, etc. etc.

And the biggest fighting game in the world, SS4AE, is on the PC.

I haven't even listed all of the other smaller, independent action/arcade games.

That's wholly subjective. It depends on how much you value a game.

I really shouldn't have.
Monies are tight, bayonetta is like a 10 hour game, yeah let's put down 250 dollars for that.
I can get the gears 3 part that he mentions, if he wants the game that badly , he can't get it anywhere else.

And yes you really should have :p

Unless you also want to pay for Xbox Live to play Gears 3 and FM4 online, I wouldn't suggest it.

Sure there are tons of great games on XBLA, but a lot of them will be on PC eventually, and I don't know if it is worth $300.

Aren't sim racers better on PC anyway? Like iRacing and stuff like that?

Will try not to be pedantic by dissecting each game but more than half the games you named are just FPSes, and the rest are low-budget dreck like Wasteland Angel. Vanilla TF2 (Hat Fortress 2), last I heard, is a joke - I'd have to look into Fortress Forever if I wanted to try a remotely balanced TF. Nothing you named is unique like Virtual On, Vanquish, Dark Souls, AC5, etc. Only Space Marine is remotely comparable.

Who cares of SF4 is the "biggest." We can't even play 3rd Strike anymore on GGPO. Should I bother going through the effort of setting up Garou to see if 12 people are online playing it?

Another problem with PC gaming is that the online scene isn't as lively as people would have you believe. Most of the time it feels like 90% of it is distributed on MW, BF, WoW, and SC2. Who knows, maybe Win8 will change things for the platform.

Because you've never used a computer to play older games before, that's why.

Im no gaming expert myself but I'm not even that "dumb".

The 360 has been out for 6 years now.

SIX YEARS!

And this guy...

...seriously?

I have over 100 XBLA games and about the same # of Indie Games, I have had more fun with it than any console ever and I am only scratching the surface simply because I don't have much time to get into multiplayer or co-op games

There are enough exclusives on 360 to make it worth purchase for any serious gamer, I think the same can be said about PS3 these days. Just depends how serious you are I guess.

Reasons I say you should buy one:
1. Castle Crashers
2. Halo Anniversary
3. GOW 3
4. Girls that "game" will like it better than your PC (not meant to be a misogynistic comment)
5. ....Reomvable faceplates? idk its only $200 would be a better answer I guess

Reasons you shouldn't buy one:
1. that $200 could go towards a SLI'd GTX 580
2. You have a PC
3. Forza 4 won't be much different from 3 or 2
5. HORRIBLE community of asshats! Every game I go into on multiple XBL titles, there is someone being a twit!

I had no interest in jumping into the console space this generation, but that changed last week. Friends typically don't buy multi platform pc versions for coop play and they play the shit out of the Gears of War series, so I said fuck it and I'm blowing about $700 getting a 360+accessories/games/live. Plus, that damn Ice-T unboxing pressured me too.
Starting with:

I figured, if I'm gonna bother getting a console, I should at least get one that looks good.

Plus, I wanted to play Dark Souls and Red Dead Redemption, which apparently a GotY is releasing next month, perfect timing. And I'm annoyed Pac-Man Championship Edition DX never came to the PC so that will be my first digital purchase on live.

One bonus for this particular console, I may be able to unload it to some GoW fanboy later down the road for close to what I paid.

Well, you're asking for 'action/arcade' games, but apparently emulation doesn't count.

TF2 isn't a joke at all. It's still an extremely good game, and it is free.

Then, there are other F2P games like Vindictus which are TPS. Or Lara Croft + Guardian Of Light. Or Arkham Asylum/Arkham City.

Then, there are other 'action/arcade' games like Beat Hazard, or weird hybrids like Mount & Blade. Or, the definitive versions of games like Just Cause 2. Or, GTAIV with Icemod.

To say that 'nothing is unique' on the PC is ridiculous.

That's just insane, sorry. Ancient games like Quake, Quake II, DOOM, and the original Starcraft all have thriving player bases over a decade after they were initially released.

Games like Freespace 2 are continually being given new, awesome user created content.

The online scene on the PC isn't simply lively - it is also deathless. Games continually reinvent themselves through user participation. Yep, the big franchises have noticeably large player bases - stuff like CoD, BF, or WoW. They are of their moment, and it stands to reason that they would.

But, you're not understanding what the 'PC online scene' is. It is far deeper, more complex, and richer than you think. On the consoles, games come, are played, and die. On the PC, that isn't necessarily the case - and is often simply not true.

I'm primarily a PC gamer and I bought a 360 when Super SF4 came out...and really wish I had bought a PS3 instead. The 360 exclusives really don't interest me at all and the only thing I've ended up playing on it is SSF4.

Contentwise it won't but in terms of gameplay there will be a world of a difference. What you said is like saying GT5 is like Prologue but GT5 was so much better than Prologue.

lol no. I login to play SC1 and Quake2 just a recent as this summer. And, lol no.

also your accusations of console online being "played, and die" is also simply not true.

You logged onto the wrong place for Brood War, then. 426 people online right now on ICCup's BW server.

I play Quake and Quake 2 multiple nights of the week, so - yes - they are still being played. As much as Bad Company 2? Of course not, and it would be ridiculous to infer such a thing. But, they ARE being played by those who want to play them, and that's the point.

As for Starcraft - it was one of the biggest games in the world until the release of Starcraft 2. And it is still being played.

And, yes, my accusations of console games having a far shorter lifespan are fairly accurate.

Kind of contemplating this myself. I've owned a 360 previously but not for a couple of years now.

I bought myself a gaming PC earlier this year, i5 2500/4GB/560ti, runs everything I throw at it on decent settings without hiccup. That said, I'm still getting an itch for a more console like experience that I'm sort of missing. The 4GB 360 Slims are creeping closer and closer towards £100 now which has me tempted. I'm interested in Halo Reach/CE, Gears series, Forza, Red Dead, Vanquish, Mortal Kombat, Alan Wake etc. Games I can't necessarily get on PC. Most of those are old games now too and there's only really Gears 3, Halo CE and Forza 4 that are new that I feel I need to play. Oh, and MGS HD..

PS3 is out of the question as the idea is I'm looking to scratch the console itch cheaply to take me through the first few years of next gen and compliment PC..

Decisions decisions. Sorry for grave digging and not really looking for anyone to convince me, just need somewhere to think aloud.
