I feel like I'm stuck in a hip hop rut right now a little bit. How do you guys typically find new albums to listen to?

I've been doing a combination of listening to the recs in here, going back to classic hip hop albums that I haven't listened to yet, and crawling through the top releases on bandcamp.

Any other suggestions?

Listen to Beats1.

OVO Sound Radio, Julie Adenuga, Soulection, Ebro, all have decent to great rap

Jesus, that Gibbs story was fucked-up. Feeling bad for him. One of my biggest fears is being falsely accused of something someday out of the blue because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Watched too many crime documentaries, man.

I had a girlfriend that I dated that retro-actively accused me of raping her the first time we boned. Shit was ridiculous; she had written "Fuck my boyfriend" in her day planner earlier in the week, showed me and a couple of her friends.. then made a production of dragging me into a room at a party full of people as her friends cheered us on....it was about as literal as consent gets; not to mention the fact she dated me for nearly 2 years after that with no complaints. Then after a somewhat messy breakup she told everyone at a party that I'd raped her, told her parents who then spread it around the community (they were leaders in a local church). Even years later my best friends Mom told me that her parents told a group of people they were speaking to that their daughter was raped, and fucking used my name.

None of the people my age she knew believed her but I have no clue how many random members of the community did; she basically became an outcast from her best friends, her best friends supported me not her (hell I dated 2 of them later), etc. but that shit still caused me nightmares (and the only nervous breakdown I've ever experienced, shaking uncontrollably for a good half hour). Never knew if I'd get a call from the cops some day or whatever. Contemplated getting a lawyer and suing her family for slander but that would almost certainly have caused them to try to file charges.

Fuck that noise.

Yeah koozek. Don't worry man. No girl will ever accuse you of anything.
damn

Call yourself a music reviewer but not be able to tell the difference between afrobeat & dancehall brehs
I've been seeing Afro Trap and Dancehall being used synonymously recently. I hate Afrotrap, man. Hope it doesn't catch on too much and fades away quickly. Already every second German rapper is doing it (at least this time they're not 3 years late on a trend compared to France like they normally are, I give them that).

Who?

EDIT: Oh wait, that French cat who blew up a few years ago? Name sounds familiar to me.

Afro Trap? Huh.

Yeesh, that's petty. Hope she gets her comeuppance.

Was long ago; I don't really care what happens to her. I actually ended up married to her former best friend and saw her at her 10 year HS anniversary. She had a "fiance" with her; but the theory that her friends came up with is that she hired a male escort. It's like something straight out of a bad rom-com.

Going back from earlier, melonhead called Wale's new album "cashing in on the Caribbean craze" and he's been going the fuck off on him ever since.

Imagine being from Nigeria itself and having a dude that looks like he posts on r/hiphopheads religiously telling you how to make your music lmaooooooooo

Wale, Vince Staples, and Heems have all been giving him shit on twitter for it lol

This Mero tweet though https://twitter.com/thekidmero/status/859918487527067651

"Lil Yachty Joins Episode 114 of Everyday Struggle | Joe Budden & DJ Akademiks"

Jesus, Budden is super annoying here. Kudos to Yachty staying calm.

I think what sent him over the edge a few times was Yachty not knowing if he was in a 360 deal. He seemed smart about his business (which he admits to caring about more than anything) until they start digging and he looks like the clueless artist again.

But his team was also behind the camera desperately trying to get him off some of those topics so idk

Joe hating on him being happy is HILARIOUS btw. Like a self parody.

If his argument was simply "wow I'm not feeling this track" I'd have no problem with it. Even if he said "I'm not feeling the musical influences on this track" or something vague along those lines. Instead he displays a casual ignorance about black music and accuses Wale of hopping on a trend as if the song isn't within the vein/genre/etc of his fucking home country's music scene. Wow.

Being white doesn't preclude someone from understanding another culture's music. But being white sure does increase the chances that you say something stupid about another culture's music. And I say that as a white guy who considers himself a jazz critic.

Yeah. Even tho yachty sounds like he doesn't know much he's prolly also just pivoting because his business is too sensitive to discuss out in public. He's likely clueless about it all honestly, but he knows what kind of market he's targeting and the business end of things is then subsequently handling that.

And lmao at Joe getting angry everytime yachty talks about how good he's feeling
