Right, I'm feeling pretty fucking horrible at the moment, but at the same time i know its going to get better, how do you pass those shitty days by, knowing everything will eventually be alright, but you still have to cope with the shit until then? Im sorry to post this fucking drivel on GAF, but its getting to the point where i just don't know how to fill my days until then..

Gaf, play video games, use lego, and sleeping.

Edit: this is a depression thread? if so this does not apply.

Take some pain killers and try to masturbate.

You'd be surprised at how fast 4 hours can go by.

play video games

I do that, but at the same time i just get overcome by horrible feelings that overwhelm and destroy me mentally, i mean other than the depression thread is there not a place GAFfers can just let lose all the problems they are dealing with...like shit this forum is the best and i kinda wish i could just vent some times without having to worry about being called out

Gaf, exploring, drinking.

GAF and drinking is what it comes down to at the moment, fuck it makes me feel like shit

Drunk thread? Drunk thread.

Also, are you sure you're getting enough exercise? I feel miserable when I don't move around much

Be productive and contribute to your community if you can. Feels good getting thigns done and helping people. If I'm not being productive I become depressed and shit.

Drunk thread? Drunk thread.

Yeah, i know..

Yeah it sucks. I used to just hop on a train or bus and visit somewhere.

See i just want to do that but at the same time, theres so much at risk, if i did something like that and got in shit thats a criminal record meaning I'm already not able to travel to a few places...including america

Ya see i want to do that, but at the same time it feels like the world is no longer passionate about anything, the only place you see people generally caring about anything is when your down the pub and its some fucktard on a drunken rant about political bullshit that you know you can't make a difference in, jesus i wish i was born in a time where people cared.

By going to library and learning calculus (you can pick any subject :D) or by watching tv shows (I am watching X Files ATM) or by playing a great game....

the library option is the best....I spend a lot of time there

Yeah, i know..

The thing is, I'm going to, but I'm not entering that world for 2 months or so, and until then its that feeling of hopelessness, that you have no control over your own life that drives me into the ground

Get a short term job, something where the turnover is high, like working to McDonalds or Burger King or a factory....

Gaf/interwebs on my laptop or nexus 7

Have sex when I used to have a gf

I honestly don't know what I'd be doing without the net prolly watch TV play video games and porn

Chase after women or some shit

Where i live right now there just simply is not that kind of work

Is there an OT for people just to vent btw? I think there should be one..

It's possible you're hung up on control. I looked to Spinoza.

Do something new. If I may ask, do you have a smartphone or GPS?

If so, get the geocaching app and use it to give you a reason to go explore. For me, nothing helps with depressing like getting out of my house.

If itÂ’s a nice day, IÂ’ll chill at my terrace or take a nice stroll somewhere pretty (like a park). Sometimes I even treat myself with an expensive meal/dessert.

If I want to stay home, IÂ’ll play a video game or watch a good movie/tv show. Music helps too, so I'll jam it out to stuff that I dig.

If you have great friends that are free, then you should call them up and see if they want to chill. People are the best. :)

All in all, just keep yourself occupied so that you can keep your mind off whatever is making you feel sad. ;p

Only you can pick out the options that suit you best. But for when I'm in a bad mood that I expect will pass:

-Exercise. Especially jogs/runs. I'm actually too dainty to pump serious iron, so I don't bother with that unless I'm at the gym (such a bad person, I know). Endorphins ftw.

-Change of scenery. Unless you've been looking for time to yourself, being at home is only sometimes good. Consider parks if you're looking for nature to calm you down, or a beach if you're lucky. This may be weird, but I find cemeteries very relaxing. If you need a little adventure or just need to get out, check out a local store or clothes shop or something. Pet stores are good for me. Consider traveling to a nearby town or city. Coffee shops can be relaxing, though unless I have work to do I don't bring my laptop there.

-Art/Fiction. This is a catch-all for movies, books, video games, and music! Is there a band or CD that you haven't gotten around to giving a try? What about a book, or a video game? Movie you've been meaning to see? I'm sure GAF has threads for these individual things and there are otherwise places to find what suits your tastes. You may also want to try some creative stuff of your own. If you draw or compose music, now would be a good time. You can even write whatever you want, fiction, compose your own autobiography or someone else's biography, whatever. Sometimes, as bullshit as it may sound, putting your emotions to paper/screen helps a lot. You like to cook/are a foodie? Try a new place or making a dish.

With negative moods I used to have difficulty not turning them against myself, I would internalize otherwise meaningless things too strongly. Be careful not to do that if it applies to you.

edit: Forgot to add, people generally help a lot with resolving shit. It sounds like you have something you need to work out emotionally, not sure if it's related to your job...

Do stuff.

Make a list of things, big and small, you would like to do. Do at least one every day, no excuses. No, that you're sick is not an excuse. No, that you're tired is not an excuse. No, that you forgot is not an excuse. No, that you had other plans is not an excuse.

Ever made a pizza from scratch? Cheese-stuffed meatballs? Eel? Can you cook at all? Speak any other languages? Do you ever exercise? When was the last time you did a puzzle? Is there a museum in your town you haven't been to? How messy is your bedroom or your kitchen or your bathroom? Surrounded by junk and in need of spring cleaning? When was the last time you got up for a sunrise? Are you an organ donor? Do you vote--and if not, is it because "you don't know enough to", because now's your chance to rectify that? Know anything about jazz? About wine? About beer? About ducks? Ever been to a nature sanctuary? Every went rock climbing? Beach bonfire? How many of the top GoodReads books have you read? How many of the IMDB top movies have you watched? Play an instrument? Caught up on all your TV shows? Got a backlog? Ever try yoga? When was the last time you went to a park? Public swim? Sauna? Ever ridden a motorcycle? Ever played golf? Have any plants? How much do you know about them? You know those friends you haven't spoken to in years and keep meaning to talk to--today is as good a day as any to talk to them. Ever had sushi? Ever painted? Every spraypainted? Every skinny dipped? When was the last time you volunteered? How clean are your cupboards? Checked your favourite stores for any deals lately? Read a magazine--a real magazine, I mean, with actual long-form journalism stuff in it? Taken a photography class? Went skiing? Climbed a tree? How about fireworks? Barbeque? Been to a bar? Been to a dance bar? Been to a gay bar?

There are plenty of things to do in life. They all help you pass time. One thing a day, at least, and don't let that one thing be an excuse not to do two.

I find that driving alone, showering or sleeping help me when I'm in a really bad place. Watching TV is good since it doesn't last too long (and I don't like watching movies). Playing video-games doesn't help since it ends up feeling like a chore but I've watched people play games on youtube before and it's been relaxing.

I hope things get better for you sooner than you are expecting.

Thanks Stump, you put things into perspective very well and i see what you mean, however at the same time i ask, how do you keep the motivation to do this stuff, be it big or small..

end of thread, great advice!

It's been a number of years since I struggled with anything like depression, but when I did, I don't know. I don't have a magic bullet answer. The only thing that's ever helped me is taking things one at a time and asking "What's next" when it's done. The one time in my life I ever had what I would consider to be significant depression, I basically just drove my car to the same few stores every day, not even buying anything, just walking around... just to get myself out of the house, because if I was at home, I just slept and moped all day. Even reactive depression can be a medical issue, so I shouldn't give all that advice and not bother to point out that you may find going to counselling or a psychologist could help. I never did personally so I couldn't say for sure.
