GAF, how do you sleep at night?

I used to sleep fairly soundly, falling asleep fairly quickly and never having insomnia problems or anything... but lately it's been the opposite. Trouble falling asleep, waking up at night, fatigued throughout the day, etc.

Going to see a specialist soon.
 
My mind wanders when I go to sleep as well. And I never sleep enough unless it's on weekends. I don't really sleep well unless I've been up for 18+ hours.

I know what the problem is though...the problem is that I'm still playing games up until the time I should be going to bed. If I were to read an hour before going to bed I'm sure I'd go to sleep sooner.

What's your age? As someone who turned 30 I can tell you that my body the last several years has been telling me when to go to sleep more often than not. Not that I'm not like you and don't stay up late on my PC just messing around.

But I do what you except if my head starts nodding off I know it's way too late. Sometimes that can be at 11:30 or sometimes it's 1:30am.

I've never actually had much trouble going to sleep but what the OP said is basically how everyone is when trying to go to sleep. Certain sense are heightened and you can hear or feel more astutely. The weird thing sometimes is hearing yourself start to doze into sleep and snore.

But in the end, whenever I go lay down I'm usually always ready to do so. There's nothing worse than trying to go to bed forcefully as you may be tossing for an hour or two until your body starts to wear on the idea of sleep.
 
I'm out in five minutes and sleep like a log until the alarm goes off. If my wife already left for work, it usually takes about 10 minutes for me to even hear the alarm to wake up and turn it off. And I have to stick a pillow between my knees so that the bony things don't bruise eachother.
 
I do workout at around 10pm and end at 11pm, then take a shower and check some internet for about 15 minutes or so. Then leave some music playing very low (enough so that I can barely hear during the night but doesn't get in the way when the alarm goes on in the morning).

As for actual sleeping, I always fall asleep looking upwards, and wake up looking upwards and close to the same pose as when I went to sleep. I might be a mummy...

They make pillows just for that.
 
Intermittently. I don't have trouble getting to sleep but I wake up twice every night to use the bathroom, haven't slept more than 4 consecutive hours in 6 or 7 years. I'm used to it so it's not usually hard to get back to sleep, but occasionally I just can't and it destroys my sleeping cycle. Used to sleep on my side exclusively but was in the hospital for a month recently and I had to sleep on my back during that time, kind of adjusted to that. I mix it up now, left side, right side, back, all about equally.

I wish I could fall asleep to music, but I can't. I do need some sort of ambient sound, whether it's a fan or my computer or the TV faintly in the background, can't sleep in complete silence.
 
I have a lot of trouble. I've taken to listening to podcasts until I fall asleep, because I find an unoccupied mind while trying to sleep unbearable.

As for the sleeping itself, on my stomach, right hand under my pillow, left hand by the side of my pillow and legs making a four with the left leg outstretched.
 
I know people who have real trouble sleeping to the point even medication barely works, so I don't take for granted how fortunate I am to basically sleep whenever I want, wherever I want. I've sleep very well in cars, trains, planes, on the ground, outside, and yes, even on my bed. Hell, I've even slept like a rock ON a rock before.

I can pretty much be out within 5-10 minutes of hitting the bed. And I am a heavy sleeper...fire alarms woke me up before, but I've managed to go back to sleep while they were still blaring.

I notice I'm not able to sleep as long as I used to back in high school and college though. I used to be able to sleep 10-12 hours continuously, but now I'm usually up after 8 hours of sleep, even if it's not a work day.

I put old radio comedy sketch shows on, kick starts my imagination, some times it takes an hour if so I change,


A good one is listening to billengvalls stuff, turn of the screen so it's dark and it sends me off to sleepy land

Do you guys listen to these with earpods in? I tried listening to 'white noise' a while back with earpods in but because I sleep on my right side my right ear starts hurting from the pressure of laying on it with an earpod in.
 
If you absolutely need to go to use the PC before you sleep, and you have trouble falling asleep, use F.lux to adjust the color temperature of your display.
 
I was asked once how I sleep at night, knowing that I'm supporting EA by buying Mass Effect 3 and enjoying Dragon Age 2.

Generally with a warm glass of milk beforehand.

I use an old ipod dock + speaker thing on my bedside table. Playing podcasts is the only thing I use it for anymore. Trying to sleep with earplugs in is damn impossible.
 
Turn the fan on.

Wrestle my feather mattress into a comfortable state. May or may not become uncomfortable the second I lay down.

Take a melatonin pill if I feel like I won't be able to fall asleep.
 
Get in bed at a fairly early hour, read for a few minutes, put Kindle away when I get too sleepy, fall asleep almost immediately after that, sleep until alarm clocks goes off early in the morning (sometimes sleep through it as well :X). I sleep on my left side only.

Hell no, that's uncomfortable, I got the trick from my dad and my mum doesn't seem to mind it when he plays it out loud mind you it is quiet, you can always wait till she fall asleep

I have a dock for my GS3 but sadly it does not have speakers. My wife sleeps like a rock. I watch TV in bed after she sleeps and she doesn't wake up to that.

I must say I like the audio book idea, I've never been much into pod casts.

Exam in 40 minutes, mind is saturated. Turned on GAF and boom. Out.

Real sleep, hard base pillow, soft top pillow. Neck and head support, sleep on my sides. Drink lots of water before bed to avoid headaches in the morning.

For me, it has to be cold in the room, with a big down comforter. I fall asleep in no time.

If its warm, forget about it. I'll toss and turn all night.
 
So GAF how do you get to sleep at night?
Do you sleep on your side, back, stomach?
Does anyone have 'tricks' like me they have to perform in order to get to sleep?

I'm genuinely curious.

I try to sleep at a regular time frame (like 10 PM, yeah big whoop, it's early, deal with it.)
Otherwise if I sleep really late or early, my sleep will be skewed the next day.

I sleep on my side, but it varies night to night on which right or left side.

I'm too lazy for this method but it does work for me:

I start thinking of last names in alphabetical order and think of as many as I can.
For instance, start at A think of as many as you can, Albert, Albertson, etc.

Then go on to B.
So for I can't pass I and I fall asleep at this.

I've seriously considered just drinking heavily before bed but I don't want to pickle my liver. I rarely ever drink. Only on special occasions or around the holidays.

Yeah, sometimes if I feel if I'm making names too fast I try to invent last names to stay on a letter longer.

Then it gets kind of "creative", like, Gabriella (I'm quiet sure that's a first name.), Gabriels, Gabrie...
Yeah my mind gets a little funky at this part, heh.
 
I'm typically out like a light when I go to sleep, but I can't sleep in a quiet room. I need something on, either an air conditioner or some kind of white noise. I typically have an hour long recording of rainfall playing at a natural volume (as if it was raining outside) on repeat when I go to sleep. I don't know what it is, but I just have more trouble sleeping in a silent room.

No, it's a heavy dose of mangesium. Calms your mind / muscles and most people are magnesium deficient anyways. I don't mess with melotonin, part of sleeping well is having a balanced melotonin/serotonin.
 
Do to my own stupidity, I HAVE to sleep with my ipod listening to a ASMR relaxation tracks on it to get to sleep.


i cry myself to sleep pretending my pillow is another human being. after a while, my eyes hurt because i cry so much

You can sleep ontop of my back Aguirre. Just no jumping.
 
lately, terribly.

Stress has hit an all time high for me, so sleep has been nearly nonexistent. Between stress and sleeping on a floor, i have been a tired jumbled mess.
 
I lay on my side with my arm extended. My little Jack Russell comes up and curls up into a ball under the blanket and sleeps in the crook of my arm. I fall asleep in maybe 1 or 2 minutes at the most and sleep pretty heavily.
 
I don't think any of you 1 to 5 minute asleep people know how much I hate you.
Kidding. I love you all.
