GAF how does the Disney Infinity Marvel game work? On PS4?

I'm interested in this as I love Marvel and so does my child, but what do I need to play it? Do I need all the characters? Are the levels long?

The characters you own are those you play as. You'll need to invest in the characters that you'd like to play as in game. Infinity 3.0 will let you mix and match characters more easily than 1.0 and 2.0 (2.0 being the Marvel set).

If you're stateside, GameStop is running a buy 2, get 3 free sale on preowned/used figurines.

(disclaimer: I work for GameStop)

The base Marvel set comes with an Avengers playset, Ironman, Thor, and Black Widow. It's a few hours long, but you also have access to the Toybox, where you can make and share adventures.

Note that outside the Toybox, most playset content can not be crossed-over. So you can't run for example Donald Duck through the Avengers playset.

You also can't use 3.0 characters in 2.0 (which is what the Marvel box set is).

The Base 2.0 set comes with the portal and the Marvel playset. You can use select Marvel characters on those levels. The full campaign isn't too long, but I have never kept interest long enough to complete any of the campaigns, and I've bought every Disney Infinity incarnation. Its pretty fun to play with kids, though. There are extra playsets (like Guardians of the Galaxy, Ultimate Spider-man) that are extra campaigns, but if you buy them new, they come with at least two characters that you can play. You can also buy additional characters to play within those sets.

Here is a guide that shows what playsets are compatible with which versions of the game. http://www.ign.com/wikis/disney-infinity/Compatibility_Guide

Note that the Toy Box mode in which you can just make things and mess around in pre-made worlds will let you use any character up to the version of the base game that you have.

Thanks guys. I mainly want it for the Marvel characters. So not being able to play Donald and Thor together is okay in my book lol

I should have mentioned that Marvel characters are split into three seperate groups -- Avengers, Spiderman, and Guardians of the Galaxy. There's a tiny bit of overlap, but not much.

Also note that 3.0 is getting a Marvel playset eventually as well that will allow for all Marvel characters to play.

Oh nice! So I should wait for 3.0 then?

I'd say get the 2.0 stuff now (it should be super cheap), then when the Marvel set comes out pick up a cheap 3.0 and the playset. Are you interested in Star Wars stuff? 3.0 doesn't have much Marvel content otherwise.

3.0 can't play 2.0's playsets. Yes, I imagine you're getting very irritated by all these technicalities by now.

Ah I see. Thanks for clearing all this up for me. It makes it a lot easier to pick and choose what to get.
