We may shed a light on games that he didn't notice or take seriously before, or give a concentrated area of info at least. If people are afraid of asking and discussing things like this then what's the point of a forum?why ask random people on a forum bro? Just look at which has games you want..Christ, the only reason you should be buying one is if a game has caught your fancy. I mean seriously. And why such a random choice between the seriously outdated psp and the brand new 3ds.
I have a 3DS. Can't find anything I'm excited to play on it except SMT IV and the new SSB.
As for the console port comment towards the Vita, the 3DS feels like that too. At least everything from Nintendo does (Super Mario Bros 3DS or whatever the hell it's called seems exactly like the Wii version.)
And I'm gonna be the one to say it, do you have an iOS device? Unless you NEED your standard franchises, iOS is a fantastic platform. Touch only controls may take you some getting used to, but the games are solid and cheap.

Oh, if you're going PSP then a an RPG you need is Breath of Fire. USA has 4 and Europe's got 3 (weird I know), but both are really good. Great mix of sprites and 3d, brilliant ost's and pleasant, non-angsty stories. Just a recommendation!
Well from this thread I discovered the flaws of the 1000, the fact that PSP has a huge RPG library, and that the PSP has also very good fighting games. I guess most of these could have been done with a little research, but I also wanted opinions and past experiences and such.
I just disagree with your stance that my recommendation isn't valid because I like Kirby. You don't want a 3DS, that's fine, you'll be surprised but other people might.
Yes, I do own a DS. Something I love about the DS is how many RPG games it has, does the PSP have a large library of RPG games, too?
Also, I'm sure about the PSP, I'm not looking for a Vita right now, so yeah : P
As for the model, I had a PSP 1000 in mind, but is it really bad compared to the later models?
Depends on the games you're looking for.
I still have/had all the handheld systems except the 3DSXL. If you already have the DS and its RPGs, but you want more RPGs, the PSP is a great system. Other than that, I don't think it's worth getting a PSP over a 3DSXL if you're not into RPGs.
That's just me though. It all depends on what games you like and want to play. Without the RPGs, the PSP is no better than the Vita, in my opinion.
The guy asked a simple question. PSP or 3DS? No Vita there. Maybe the fact is you love it too much, not that I hate it at all...Have you ever even played a Vita, or are you just part of the "hate it because it isn't a 3DS" club?
Well... fuck. I thought there wasn't a huge difference but longer UMD load times turns me off instantly. Guess I gotta search again. Thank you for this, though, very helpful.
Noo.... my DS is sexy dark blue, plus I think the 3DS doesn't look that good with DS games, no?
This thread is convincing me that I gave up on the PSP too soon. Time to start bargain hunting.
I had no idea Sony released an extended battery pack. That just blows my mind.
Summary of the thread thus far:
DS vs. PSP = DS wins
3DS (incl. perfect DS backwards-compatibility) vs. PSP = 3DS wins
Let's see...
PSP can play every single game from from the Atari 2600 up to the PSone after 5 minutes of a modder going to work. (that's thousands upon thousands of games)
The 3DS can play 3DS and DS games. (Still, a metric ton of games, but nowhere near close to the PSP's library.)
This is all based on opinion, so no console really wins. If you're just going by backwards compatibility, then the PSP would win by a landslide.

Wait wait wait ...
You're saying - buy a PSP then mod it and PIRATE a bunch of games you don't own, and you'll have a better platform than 3DS??
And what's the use of a PSP if it requires you to be a CRIMINAL to get the most out of it????

How does that make any sense to someone who wants the complete LEGITIMATE (not to mention LEGAL) platform experience???

Quick question: When I had a PSP 3000 it was kind of pain to hack and keep hacked. Has the situation improved or are you better off trying to track down a 2000?
sorry for being such a CRIMINAL
All PSPs (including 3k and Go) can be soft-hacked (meaning every time you do a hard turn-off you need to run a program which loads in 5 seconds and just stays on your memory card).
It works for everything and it's as easy as it could possibly get.
Not sure how is it any pain to hack? its no more than hard than anything else you doing in the day
i'm replying to your post because this is an open discussion forum, and i feel you're unjustly jumping on another user? You're not NJShadow. Why are you replying to my post?
he said he downloaded thousands of games? where? so far as i could tell, he simply said that the psp COULD (which it can!) play thousands of games. He has THOUSANDS of games ready to play on his PSP, by the way. You only have one, it seems. Congrats on owning the cartridge though.

1. This forum doesn't endorse piracy.

Get the vita man seriously. All the great rpgs from psp and ps1 are available on psn. The vita is amazing hardware too, it makes the 3ds and 3ds xl look like a cheap toy.
I'm honestly not sure if the OP realizes that the Vita can play PSP games (digital download only), and make them look amazing as well.
OP -- get a Vita. They are on sale this week at Target. $249.99 for the Wi-Fi model with a free $50 gift card. That effectively makes the Vita $199.99.
You know, the modding does sound really interesting, don't kill me, but it's just great to see these things and what people can do. Is it still really bad if I already own the game? You might go "Why would you want to emulate this game if you already have it?" Well, I might just enjoy the bigger screen, controls, and portability of it. It sounds great and I don't think you can just straight up call someone a criminal just because they want to play the games they already own in a much different way and therefore a much different experience.Wait wait wait ...

What he said is true, but he's saying about the newest, 6.60-based CFW. I have a 6.20-PRO permament CFW on my 3k, so I don't have to run anything after restarting...Cool, thanks.
