Theme: Faces -- My initial idea was to use 'Portraits' as the theme, but then I started to think that maybe that was a little too limited. Faces gives us a bit more breadth to have a bit of fun with.

For some inspiration, take a look at this FLICKR GROUP.

Submissions are due by Sunday, August 9th at 11:59 PM PST.

Voting begins Monday, August 10th at 12:01 AM PST and ends on Tuesday, August 11th at 11:59PM PST.

1) The theme can be interpreted as you see fit, but keep in mind others will be judging based on whatever criteria they see fit.

2) Only one photo per person, per assignment.
-- Photos must be taken during the assignment period.
-- Only photos to be posted in this thread are to be submissions.
-- You can change your submission by editing your post.
-- To avoid cluttering up the thread, please avoid quoting images.
-- Photos should be no larger than 800 pixels on the long edge.

3) One vote for your first choice (3 points) and one vote for your runner-up (1 point), which can be based on any criteria you see fit. You cannot vote for your own submission. Non-participants are also welcome to vote. Criticism/comments encouraged.

4) The "winner" should come up with a new theme/time period. Ties are broken first by the number of first choice votes, then by longest time since last win/thread start, then by longest amount of time participating in assignment threads, then by photographer with the largest nose.

5) Have fun!

I don't know, they're still between blue and brown. And he's already the biggest flirt I've ever seen.

...and a tentative entry! I took it today, may change it, or may just crop it more... but just to get the OH HO HO HO baby pictures started:

Canon 20D, 10-22mm EF-S, ISO 800, 1/25 sec, f/4.5

I visited Bear (5 weeks old) last Saturday and took some portrait shots with my 85L, but then I switched to my super wide-angle 10-22mm and put the camera down on the floor in the pen a few inches in front of him. :D

Canon Rebel T1i, 18-55mm EF-S, ISO 100, 1/250 sec , f/5.0

My grandparent's dog, Brandy, who actually just passed away. That fact really adds something to the picture for me.

Also i guess technically the focus really should be on the eyes but for some reason i still like it this way.

Playing unfairly! Ultra-wide and puppies...

What's the minimum focus distance on the 10-22?

I'm ruthless in that way.

9 inches, I just manually set the focus as close as it would go and tried to roughly position the camera as best I could without looking through the viewfinder.

I think a lot of a dog's character is in its nose and mouth, not just the eyes. Brandy looked like she was a real sweetheart.

permutated, can you please edit your post to remove the image?

Good to see you're acclimatising him to the camera early :lol (it is a he, right?)

Yes, he's a he. Once I get him home, I'll also do stuff like leave my tripod set up in the kitchen (his area for a bit), and maybe an unplugged light stand, just so those contraptions are second nature to him. :)

:) awww.

Dogs generally don't mind if you point a camera in their face. :)

Hey Bear-tie, I really like your shot a lot, but...an overcoat and scarf in July?

Didn't particularly take this with the assignment in mind, but the week brought quite a few faces options. I think this one takes it for its slavish (but unusual) commitment to pluralization.

Much of the night and this morning was spent on an emotional rollercoaster - one that seems to only go down and never back up - and the camera offered a way to briefly direct my attention elsewhere. I may not leave this submitted, but for now...

wow great pics everyone, I though was too absent minded since I got my mind on looking for a house right now. Gotta remember next time!

do people think there chances to win raises when they submit there pictures the last day of the assignment?
:D

No, we're just that lazy. I took my photo over a week ago. I don't think there's any trend of entries near the end winning.

Git votin'!

1. LRS
2. Aidan

I really like the lighting in both of these. As for HMs... too many cute kids and pets to pick one. :)
