First Choice: Scythian Empire - Yeah, we've all seen this image a hundred time, but this is such a wonderful example of the "old people's hands" genre that I can't not recognize it.

Runner Up: guess - First, let me say I'm glad to see you enter again, I've missed your vibrant colors and enviably sharp images. Love the narrative, even if the team behind it sucks...


Honorable Mentions:
Puxel - I love this visual effect. Not sure I know what you're doing with the excessive white space on the right, but overall, the image works for me.

cityhunter - Like someone else said, this isn't an image you've seen a hundred times already. I really like how the blown highlights isolate the foreground hand.


Other Comments:
Rayo - Yeah, I guess I can see where people are coming from with the "imaginative" comments, but it doesn't really result in a very compelling image for me.

Lucky Forward - Love how the colors work with each other. Hand feels a little under-exposed, which draws attention more to the gun.

Irish - An interesting take on the theme. A little snapshotty to me, perhaps a different crop or lighting would add a lot of visual interest to it.

Shiggie - Not feeling the B&W, but it does mask the fact that it's in a takeout carton.

permutated - The eyes steal the image.

Jeff-DSA - Adorable.

Papi - Great image. I'd love to see it with more motion blur on the right hand to give it a more dynamic feel.

Xun - We've seen this image done enough that I'd prefer to see a little better execution (not that I could do myself, but still...)

Zyzyxxz - Has the dynamic feeling missing from Papi's and compositionally stronger too.

Flunkie - Nice image. Why the tilt?

Nachkebia - The hands feel like an afterthought if not an outright mistake.

Oh, believe me, I've got hundreds of 'em. Especially shooting near wide open, it's very easy to "just miss" on placing the focus where you want.

Lucky Forward - Lovely shot. The subtle focus is a nice touch!

cityhunter - What can I say? It's such a lovely photograph. I love the blown highlights behind the hand, and the reflection in the mirror!

Scythian Empire - I really do love this photo, it tells a lot. As someone previously mentioned, older hands really do carry a lot of stories to tell!

Honorable Mention - Xun - Beautiful shot, but not being familiar with the characters, the "hands" connection didn't leap out at me right away. I would have liked to see one where you elevated the lamp a bit to the right in order to fully include both their heads within the circle of light.

Thanks! I guess the connection to hands would make more sense if you've seen Wall-E (which is definitely worth watching). Also thanks for the comments, I guess I really should've centralized both characters... perhaps I'll retake it and pop it in the official photography thread!

I plan on picking up a camera this week. Something cheap where I can adjust the focus, exposure, aperature, and what have you. I just want to take stopped-action photos.

I should also pick up a student ID and then Photoshop.
