Hey there everyone, recent Nintendo Switch owner here. I currently don't own any games with the system ( I don't want to buy Zelda before i finish Nier:Automata and i won't be able to get the game before next week anyway) . Still i want to spend some time with the system aside from playing that freakin' Puyo Puyo Tetris Demo ( Even my mom enjoys this. Seriously everyone, give this a shot)

I already spent a lot of money to get the console and i'm most definetely getting Zelda whenever possible but until then i don't want to spend more tbh.
So what are my best options for cheap e-shop games?

Need your help GAF!

Kamiko. $5, takes maybe 50 minutes per playthrough, beautiful spritework, setting, and music, and is kind of a more action-based Zelda-like.

Kamiko for sure. Blaster Master Zero, and the Metal Slug games. Metal Slug 2 has some bad slowdowns though.

Also Mighty Gunvolt Burst

I can't say i really liked Blaster Master Zero.
Controls felt too floaty and after Shovel Knight it kinda felt old aesthetic-wise.

I'm in the same boat as you, I've had my switch for two days. I bought metal slug 1 from the eshop and demos so far. There's a demo for master blaster, fun game so far.

I also bought cave story physical since I've never played it before, but that was $25.

Kamiko is a beautiful game, but it's not very long. The intention is for the player to get through the game as fast as possible, using one of the three characters that can be selected. It is a pretty fun game though, and I did enjoy playing through it with each character.

GoNNER is a rogue-like platformer, and has a lot of replay value for me. Sometimes rng can be terrible to you and unleash absolute hell, which can be frustrating - but that's to be expected with a game that generates content at random. It has a great Tim Burton style art design, too.

Blaster Master Zero is a classic platformer. If you haven't played this yet, then I would highly recommend it if this is a genre you enjoy. The game rewards you for playing well, and will make you feel like an absolute God at times.

I'd recommend all three, but you can get an idea of which one you'd like the most. These are the only games I've played on Switch that are $10US or less.

I would say Magical Drop II, but why in the hell can't I beat that damn devil kid (level 3) in story mode? Makes me want to refund it.

Top eshop recommends from me (under $10) are:
Kamiko (cant beat the price at $5)
Blaster Master Zero
Mighty Gunvolt Burst (badically a megaman game)
Shovel Knight Specter

Other higher cost but still great:
Shovel Knight Treasure Trove (all three games, worth the $25 easy!)
Shantae Half Genie Hero (I know its $20, worth it though)

Has Been Heroes was $10 recently at Gamestop, may still be. Isn't supposed to be great but some fun could likely be had. Codename STEAM is also $10 for 3DS at Best Buy right now if you've got a 3DS.

Personally, I'd say hold off until some of the Nindies that were teased get release dates OR throw that cash towards something like Splatoon 2 that you can jump into while playing longer games in your backlog.

Shovel Knight is one of my favorite platformers of all time , i played it for soo many hours on 3DS and i would like this masterpiece on my Switch but 25$ is a bit too much to double dip since game is constantly getting sales on PC-Ps4. I will wait for a sale for it.

They actually got that floaty feel exactly like the original NES one. So if you've never played the original then yeah it feels off.

Kinda slim pickings right now with your requirements, but 10$
Gonner is excellent
Kamiki is 5
if you can go to 13$ few bucks more theres De Mambo
Gunvolt is 9.99
Blaster Master 0 is 9.99
Snake Pass was 12$
Ton of Neo Geo for 8$

If you haven't yet played it, get Bulb Boy. It's probably become one of my top 3 eShop games now. It's a very short game but extremely fun and terrifying with a lot of character.

I personally didn't like Kamiko. The enemies that respawn when you backtrack, the key carrying, and the speed running focus just didn't appeal to me.

Gunvolt is awesome, though.

I'm really unsure about Kamiko.
50 minute length is of putting to me.
Implosion looks tempting, how good is it? I love Hack'n Slash games when they're done well.

GoNNER. One of the best games on the system.

Yea I have to agree, its just a damn good game. Also I have recently been enjoying has been heroes, got it for 10$ at game stop. STEEP learning curve, I had to watch videos, but after getting the hang, with a few annoyances, I don't understand why the bad reviews. I prolly would've put it in the high 70's, certainly not what it got.
