Glad you liked it! I had quite the Batman-filled holiday season myself, getting the entire animated series on DVD (The only reason I didn't own it was so that I could leave someone with a really obvious gift idea, but no one ever took advantage of it until this year. Including my wife of five years...), and
my brother got me these Batarang things with a razor edge on them that are the most hazardous fucking things I've ever held. There is no safe way to hold them, and I can't fathom what their purpose would be. I love them!
Incidentally, for those of you who might still be wondering, my terrible fan fiction is indeed about Batman. I inflict upon you all
The Legendary Legends of Batman (Of Legend). They're... not my brightest moment.
Anyway, for further reading on Batman, I recommend the following titles:
-
Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? Bunch of "What If?" type tales of how Batman ultimately dies. Gonna warn you straight up that I'm a huge fan of DC's "Elseworlds" reimaginings of Batman, so there's a lot of that stuff in any list I give.
-
Dark Knight Dynasty Explores the idea of the identity of Batman being taken up every few generations of Wayne in a struggle against the plottings of the immortal Vandal Savage. Features a monkey as Robin!
-
Knightfall/Knightsquest/Knightsend A large basis of The Dark Knight Rises, the defeat of Batman at the hands of Bane, and his eventual return to reclaim the cowl from his surrogate who goes completely off the rails.
-
Superman & Batman: Generations Similar in concept to Dark Knight Dynasty, details the relationship of Superman and Batman and their families over several generations. I'd ignore the sequels.
-
Batman - Vampire Collected volume of three Elseworlds tales about Batman becoming a vampire after tangling with Dracula.
-
A Death in the Family Because fuck Jason Todd.
-
Batman: Black and White A collection of short B&W tales by various artists and writers.
-
Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth Character study of some of Batman's rogue gallary, plus Batman breaks some stuff.
-
Arkham Asylum: Living Hell Actually, I don't think Batman's even in this one, but it's still a good read about a guy who pleads insanity to not go to prison, and ends up some place far worse.
And you can read the Dark Knight Strikes Again, but for your own good don't pay money for it. Heh heh.
If I had infinite resources, I'd have sent them all to you, but I had to edit down my list : )
