Until I realised that my plans for upgrading my PC will have to abandoned for next year, I was dead set on buying a new CPU for my PC. Now, I'm not sure as to whether I should buy a PS Vita or get a 3DS. To be honest, I am more inclined to get a Vita - if only because of the PSN back catalogue (although I only just started using my PSP which had been sitting on the shelf for over a year) - but am also looking in the 3DS camp as the new Zelda is coming out in November. Considering that LTTP is my favourite game of all time, I'm inclined to buy a 3DS just for that, but also am not sure as to which way I really want to go.
Damnit man. I can't make my mind up.
It's my most played game platform in 2013 by a fucking mile.

I'm sorta in the same boat; I've been eyeing Vita for a while now cause I love the hardware but the library doesn't interest me (I've had a PSP for years so its library on Vita isn't a selling point). Plus the PSPGO + DS3 + upscaler via HDMI to an HDTV is a superior way to play PSP games at home
A Link Between Worlds though is drawing me towards a 3DS (after not owning anything Nintendo since GBA) even though I'm not enamored with the device itself. Holding out hope there will be a sweet special edition bundle.
A few questions:
1. How much do graphics matter to you, scale of 1-10 with 1 being "I still regularly play PS1 era 3D games" and 10 being "I refuse to play PS3/X360 titles due to their vastly inferior AA and lack of resolutions >1080p!"?
I mainly use my PSP for Crisis Core, and then intend to start moving on the PS1 era RPGs.
2. How many physical PSP games do you own?
27
3. Will you be buying a PS4?
Got my pre-order for day one, but am thinking of cancelling as there is nothing compelling coming out on the horizon that makes me want one on launch day. I'll pick it up eventually. Just not now. Maybe.
4. Are you a PS+ subscriber?
Yes.
5. Would you use this handheld for more than just gaming (Netflix for example)?
No.
6. Do you have any interest in 3D on the 3DS?
No.
7. Did you/do you own a Nintendo DS?
I do own a DS, along with an R4 chip, and I've never really spent time with the machine. Probably owned it for around 4.5 years now, and probably only spent about 10 hours on it total
Sounds like you should just wait for a VitaTV.
My friend bought one for cheap and basically just bought 2 or 3 games and with that & his already existing PS+ membership that essentially gives him new Vita games, he swears by it. He loves it so much, he makes me consider having to get one on his love alone.
(I just woke up, my grammar might have been off.)
Vita - GR1 and GR2. P4Golden.Bingo, pretty much my plan at this point. Although the main Vita game I'm interested in is Gravity Rush and that's not VitaTV compatible AFAIK. Wonder if KZ:M is. Anyway for $99 why not?
I don't think there are any benefits for PSP owners - at least none that I am aware of. Also think that because of my love for Crisis Core and the whole PSN back catalogue thingy, my love for my PSP is somehow translating into me wanting a Vita - even though it will mean that all of my UMDs will become useless afterwards going forward.Just got a gen1 Japanese PSP for my birthday from a friend but have been thinking about vita lately. Is there any benefit to having PS+ if all I have is a PSP? Or should I wait until I pick up a PS4/Vita later? Really looking forward to checking out the sweet UMDs that PSP has put out over the years.
Vita - GR1 and GR2. P4Golden.
3DS - Zelda, Kokuga.
There are others (obviously) but not system sellers in my mind.
My answers are above.
I just got an email from Amazon offering me the opportunity to upgrade my PS4 order to a bundle. I have a week to decide if I want to go for their offers...Ok, so the BC of PSP games probably has limited appeal since your physical collection of PSP games would not be compatible. However, your interest in PS1 RPGs does have value on Vita, as the Vita screen is a substantially better viewing space for the beautiful 32 bit RPG artwork.
I understand your conundrum on the PS4, I'm personally holding off until Infamous comes out. However, it sounds like you'll buy one sooner than later so ask yourself if remote play has value to you.
Ultimately I'd suggest you go with a Vita because your most wanted titles (Gravity Rush, P4G) aren't available anywhere else with very little chance of ever being ported. At the same time you already have a collection of games via PS+ that includes one of your most wanted titles. You can pick up a 2DS relatively cheap as your means to play the xDS library a little down the road, but you clearly have very narrow tastes in Nintendo's offerings if the DS didn't click with you. The 3DS is basically picking up exactly where the DS left off in terms of library selection.
I just bought a 3G/Wi-fi Vita (incl 10 game DLC and 8gig Mem card) for ÂŁ129.99.

Use code "TDX-FQKJ" to get a discount. For new customers apparently...
I'm in the same boat. I've played Vita more than anything else this year.
It's easy, but it takes a few minutes and a second memory card. One question I would like to ask is how easy is it for one to switch PSN accounts? The reason why I ask is because I live in the UK and want to be able to play some of the games available in US/JPN? Also, that 60Hz thing...
So I can play PS1 Classics like Einhander (JPN) and Parasite Eve (US) by just making sure I have different memory cards allocated for each region? It's easy, but it takes a few minutes and a second memory card.
I want to say yes, but I'm not an expert. You're probably better off asking in the Vita community thread. So I can play PS1 Classics like Einhander (JPN) and Parasite Eve (US) by just making sure I have different memory cards allocated for each region?
