Stardust HD and Echochrome.
If you're using old games as an example, let us not forget "The Last Guy".

gofreak said:This was a list for 09, and I'd say there was about as many 'good' PSN releases this year as XBLA.
At least this is what Metacritic tells me...if not more so...but apparently that's a naughty word for some people
It's the same with any 'lists' thread though. It's one dude's opinion, therefore it's not necessarily going to representative of general taste or critical reception or whatever. It's his list.

Why For? said:Fair enough, and there's nothing wrong with Metacritic. I don't see any other way you CAN measure that sort of thing.
But just as an example. I keep reading Fat Princess in here, and I'm sorry, I don't mean to piss too many people off, but thank GOD there was a demo of that and I didn't just buy into the SonyGAF hype on that one.
Shitty boring game.
But is there a demo for Flower? It LOOKS nice, but I haven't tried it yet.

vermadas said:Just like how I think PS3's exclusive retail offerings this year completely outshined the 360, the big XBLA releases were better than what came out on PSN.
RedNumberFive said:I'm a pretty unapologetic Sony fan, and even I thought that game is pure crap. I can't believe I bought into the GAF hype on that one.
jvm said:Wow.
I'm no super-fan of Flower -- it's a really unique experience that's basically ineffable (and so I won't try). But calling it crap makes me wonder how much you've played it. Unlike most games, it has a payoff that you must complete the game to appreciate (IMO).
Why For? said:Much like Scribblenauts, Fat Princess is one of those games where the IDEA of the game is FAR better than the game itself.
Some great ideas for games just don't translate into great games unfortunately.
When I read up about Fat Princess, I was like "Shit this sounds really quirky and different, I might pick it up".
Downloaded the demo, and couldn't play for long at all. Just so.....shitty. I can't think of a more apt word.

That was fun. Enjoyed that. But that's my point, I personally can think of more great PSN Exclusives BEFORE this year. Maybe the guys that made this list were the same.
Whereas with XBLA THIS year, there was at LEAST a ahndful of games that were just a league above. And genuinely better than most full retail games.
I don't think people in this thread actually realise how good Trails HD is, and it is AMAZING value for what it gives you.
MrPliskin said:So you haven't played a lot of the PSN games in question outside of the demo (if available) and you're saying that those gamees were "just a league above"?.
This is a joke post, right?
leroidys said:Correct. How the fuck did they not even list MM9 once?

Hope they do a PSN list soon.
RedNumberFive said:I probably favor the PS3 a bit more than my other consoles, but seriously, the PSN selection this year was heads and shoulders above the competition. Gamasutra's top 5 list woudn't make my top 20.
vazel said:List seems to be Live biased.
kadotsu said:Wow, seems like WiiWare and PSN evaporated in 2009. Or it's just that Lost Winds, Trine, Flower and NyxQuest can't compare to masterpieces as Defense Grid.
Nice to see the Summer of Arcade taking the top 3.
I kid

RedNumberFive said:The lack of Flower questions the credibility of the list.

McBacon said:Also, "Gamasutra: Top 5 Xbox 360 downloadable games", Fix'd
Uh, no. If you make a list of the best 5 downloadable titles of the year, you fucking list the 5 downloadable titles you think were the best in that year.Speevy said:Even in a lopsided list, you include one game from a competing service. Otherwise, it looks like you haven't even played the others. I would say the same about a completely PSN list.
vehn said:did Microsoft sponsor that list or something?
Because of this post I decided to check it out and all I can say is I'll buy it as soon as I'm home from my Christmas trip. Looks awesome. Thanks!Dascu said:Poor NyxQuest. An overlooked gem while LostWinds steals the attention.
Let's put this to rest:Shurs said:Quick question for Rian: Do you own a PS3? I noticed in your profile that you only have a 360 gamertag listed.
It's not that I think your list is bad or wrong, it's your list, so it's your opinion and I'm not trying to invalidate your opinion, and I only have a PS3, so I can't comment on the XBLA offerings. I was just curious if you have a PS3 or not?
There you have it. He confessed! :lolRlan said:(lol 360 bias!1)

How about you make a small poll at Gamasutra and ask a few more people, maybe it would result in a less 360 centric list.Rlan said:But yes, in my opinion, these 5 games are the best on offer this year.

I think it's a fair point that releases in December get shafted (specifics of this situation aside, like whether Rlan's got a PS3 at the moment or not).SecretBonusPoint said:For instance will PixelJunk Shooter and other PS3 games just out be eligible for the 2010 list or will it simply be ignored because you haven't had a chance to play it?
