Game Grumps (aka Egoraptor plays some games)

Honestly really enjoying the Bloodborne series though. Great game and Arin isn't complete ass at it (although still vanilla weapon...).

Honestly the vanilla weapons are really good and seem to have some of the most versatile move sets. I still use the hunter axe and the great sword. A lot of the other weapons don't immediately come off as useful and seem like you need certain stats to make them useful.

I beat the whole game using nothing but the spear.

Hard to blame him when the previous 4 games were on Nintendo systems.
But it was after they just got finished saying it was a konami game...

Any seems completely overwhelmed by this game for some reason. I feel like this is going to be a painful playthrough but Danny is usually really good. Should be interesting at least.

Already brought up, but it's funny to hear "Were helping the kickstarter". When it's already been fully funded like the day it came out. Pretty cool regardless though.

Funny, I recall Arin shitting on the Igavania games in an old Grump episode by saying that the term Metroidvania is an insult to Metroid. I wonder how he even got attached to the Bloodstained project anyway.

So, this thread made me curious and I started watching some videos. Funny guys, I subscribed.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand 10 mins videos? 10 mins is waaay too short and they seem like a SUPER cheap way to just get more views on the channel ( 3 10 mins video instead of a 30 mins one..)

At least they upload frequently, I guess.

You'll get used to it. :) There's no problem with the 10 minute videos to be honest. They do make more money because of it (good for them), and it gives us something to look forward to every day.

It's the sweetspot for video length when you make a living with Youtube content.
It's not about more views, it's actually about viewer retention. At 10 minutes a pop, you can watch as many videos as you want to waste time on. But with 30+ minute videos, that's a sizable chunk of time you're being asked to invest. A viewer might watch six 10 minute videos, but only one 30 minute video. And a viewer might watch 10 minute videos every day, but only have time to watch a 30 minute one once a week.

Check out their Mickey Mousecapade NES video if you haven't, omg
Uh, Bloodlines on the Genesis and Rondo of Blood on the PC Engine?
Three guesses as to whether or not you think Danny has heard of those. I didn't even know they existed until you mentioned them.

The Youtube monetization thingy is based on total view time so having shorter episodes makes them better revenue. Plus as said above it's a lot easier to just watch a 10 min episode than watching a bigger one, not to mention it makes it easier for them to produce more daily content.

I'm guessing he hasn't but they aren't exactly a secret. It's not like I expect people to know the Sharp X68000 game, too.

Some recommended series' to binge watch from both the Jon and the Danny eras:

Goof Troop - From the Jon days, this series was gold from start to finish.

Nintendoland - But really just episodes 5, 6 and 7 (Donkey Kong's Crash Course) because they are fucking amazing. Especially when they need to speed up. Who doesn't like a MIDI version of Ace of Base?

Banjo-Kazooie Guest Grumps - They never finished the game, but they did get Grant Kirkhope to come on and talk about shit with them for a special episode. Well worth it.

Super Mario Bros 2 - Danny's first game on the show (Or maybe second. It came out at the same time as Mike Tyson's Punchout) is one of his most beloved games. Arin had never played it before. It was a wonderful experience for both.

Dennis the Menace - It's a one-off but it's amazing. GET OUTTA HERE!

Castlevania II - Arin makes Danny play his most hated Castlevania game.

Kirby's Epic Yarn - Danny and Arin have a wonderful time with a franchise Arin adores.

Shadow of the Colossus - Another wonderful series with a very emotional game. IIRC, Danny had never played it and Arin had. So he kept it as spoiler free so Danny could play as blind as possible.

Wind Waker - Arin hates this game. Apparently. But that makes it enjoyable.

Shovel Knight - This game is hard. But they power through. Except for some reason episode 7 is private because they sing a song and Polaris is a bunch of paranoid jerks. A fan has uploaded part 7 here.
Before you watch it though, watch Jon and Arin play the early demo given to them by Arin's friend who was working on the game. This was about a year before the final game was released before it was a hugely successful Kickstarter.

Super Mario Bros - It's a must.

Super Mario Bros 3 - Might as well finish the trilogy.

Super Mario 64 - Most recently. Sadly they don't get all 120 stars, but they sure as hell try.

Katamari Damacy and We ❤️ Katamari - Katamari just makes things fun.

I could go on, but I realize I've gone too far. Maybe others can chime in.

Danny sang a copyrighted song that episode and it had to be taken down IIRC. I think they'll put it back up soon since copyright with singing isn't there anymore.

as for recommendations, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories and Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 are probably 2 of my favorite GG series'. Lots of fun.

I would also recommend the Wild Guns & Jeopardy series from the JonTron era, & the Skyblazer & Zelda II series from the Danny era. All four have some hilarious jokes & some of my favourite moments (particularly Wild Guns, as it's one of the few times Arin is bursting with happiness).

My personal recommendations that haven't been mentioned yet are Chulip, Wario World, Naughty Bear (a lot of people hate that one but I really like it), Sonic 06, Shadow the Hedgehog, and every Mario Party, Kirby, and game-show series. As for one-offs there's also Drakkhen, Amazing Frog, Tom Sawyer, the Endless Ocean games, and Dog Island (I guess that's kind of a series now though).

Still waiting on Part 3... :(

Seriously if you don't laugh at this you will never like the grumps.
Even though I have seen it 10+ times already still laugh every time :D

Does no one like the Sonic 06 series? I really liked how they just got used to the game and ended up just talking about whatever. The often flip out was pretty hilarious as well.

Yeah, Goof Troop's a good one. Also really like Mega Man 7 and New Super Mario Bros Wii. I haven't really watched from the Danny days, so I can't help recommend from that. As for one offs, Super Mario Land ends pretty great.(fuck yeah Drakken is hilarious too)

The Reign of Kings video was a lot of fun. Making me want to buy that game.

Symphony of the Night is my absolute favorite Castlevania game.

This LP will be a test as to how much backpedeling Arin will do from all of his previous problems/complaints with Metroidvanias.

"Metroidvania is an insult to Metroid".

Funny, I recall Arin shitting on the Igavania games in an old Grump episode by saying that the term Metroidvania is an insult to Metroid. I wonder how he even got attached to the Bloodstained project anyway.

Would be great if he attached himself to an Igavania so that he could match Jon being a part of the Yooka Lelee KS.

I had no idea about that monster duo in the beginning of SOTN.

The game has so many secrets, and not a lot are consistent (like, breaking walls is consistent, but then there's stuff like going through the rock tunnel secret in the beginning in both your wolf & bat forms to activate a hidden door, or standing still for a number of seconds to activate a secret elevator inside a breakable wall where you normally just get wall chicken. Crazy stuff.)

I don't know what it is, but I'm really liking the Brutal Super Mario World with Markiplier a lot. They just work together.

Markiplier: "You see, this what happens when you're actually good at games."

Rewatching the Donkey Kong Crash Course episodes. They truly are some of the best JonTron moments. It truly is a beautiful night... Oh, oh, oh, oh.

And the Leisure Suit Larry and other point and click episodes really are the best Steam Train. It's about time for a new point and click adventure, isn't it?

Yes. Yes it is.
Danny and Ross doing another Sierra adventure would be the best.

I don't really see anything disingenuous about making money on the entertainment they have been pumping out for years.
