Game Grumps (aka Egoraptor plays some games)

I don't mind Jon leaving anymore
in fact I really like Danny
Took me a while to realize this, but yeah
sorry for complaining a lot earlier

Personally I think the way they've handled Jon leaving is fine. From the start it was just "he wants to do other things, let's just get on with the show." Sure it came out of nowhere from the fan perspective bit that seems to have been all there was to it.

Anything else is fan histrionics or people gettin' on that drama llama trying to create some deeper narrative where there wasn't any. I don't know what further addressing of the subject would have helped anyone.

It's the fact that Jon's departure was not only so abrupt but also quite tightly covered up immediately afterwards that makes people guess as to what the real cause was apart from him wanting to do new stuff.
I think your need to see a "cover up" speaks a lot more about you than it does of the Grumps.

Is there a set rule that they only have to play console games on GG though? I realize that's what they created Steam Train for but it would be nice if they tried some pc games on GG once and a while.
They did one once a long time ago. They never went back. Then they revealed Steam Train. I'm pretty sure* they're going to keep GG to console and ST for PC.

*My opinion means nothing and can change at a moment's notice.

Nah, that definitely feels how it's intended, especially with Arin jumping over to steam train occasionally

Full story on Jon:

He asked for more money than he was getting.
He was refused said money.
He decided to leave.

Honestly, that's the whole story. I hope he continues to be hilarious in the future in his new endeavors.

Danny is 37 years old? That's awesome!
I read this in Danny's New York accent, and I laughed.

That's a shame he left over money reasons, but it makes sense.

And somewhat off-topic: after watching more of the Grumps' Zelda episodes, I suddenly noticed something: why are the Octoroks (the red and blue rock spitting enemies on the overworld) seemingly the only characters with sprites that are drawn with a full top down perspective while everything else is drawn at an angle? Am I the only one who is bothered by such small inconsistencies (in otherwise awesome games such as these)? As mentioned elsewhere, I also never heard anybody complain about how the sprites for the four new challengers in Super SFII (i.e. for Cammy, T. Hawk, Fei Long and Deejay) are drawn differently compared to the other ones (i.e. with more detail and finer features). Seeing as Arin is an artist I would have thought that he would have noticed this as well, but 6 episodes in, he hasn't mentioned it).

A few of the Zelda 1 enemies are drawn (flat) like the moth-like enemies and kees and such. It's seemingly random, but they're there.

SSF2 is just because they switched to CPS2 for it and had more to work with. On top of the 4 new characters, you'll notice the new sprites for Chun Li's fireball, Zangief's SPD whiff animation, running bear grab and any other new moves/animations for the old cast don't fit their old CPS1 sprites either. This was made even worse with ST when they added all of the new command normals and Ken's crazy kicks and such. A number of the voices were changed or added to with the CPS2 change, as well.

Oh god, really? There has to be more to it than that. At the very least some context for it.

Interesting that it was a money thing. But I can understand it. Though wouldn't their income depend on their views anyway? He should know it's not as easy as just upping his salary.

Still doesn't explain the hastily thrown together farewell video. Also, come on Jon, you couldn't wait until you finished Sonic?

I guess that completely counts out JonTron GuestGrumps.

/Selfishness

But we got Danny and he's great so I don't mind. Come back to JonTron, JonTron. I look forward to eventually seeing more JonTron videos. As long as that wasn't a lie.

Where did you get this information?

I wasn't really sold on the Another World series to start with. My only previous experience with the game is the Game Center CX episode featuring it and it seemed like most of the fun of watching someone play it would be a first timer figuring things out and getting caught out by the traps which didn't really fit with Danny's having played it multiple times before. The interplay and screwups have made it work though.

Danny is 37 years old? That's awesome!

I figured he was a tad bit younger than that. I know Arin's about my age, and Danny a bit older, but I figured like early-mid 30s. Maybe it was more a "this is going to kill me in a few years" joke rather than an "I'm going to die any day now" joke?

Compelling source, brethren.

If Jon's departure is money related I will assume that things weren't split evenly to begin with.

Interesting point. What percentages do you think each of them should make? I mean Jon and Arin were equal and Barry is extremely important to the process making sure everything gets done and handling all the non-game-playing part. So unless Jon was making less than Arin..

I fear it strained their friendship and they will never collaborate again. I choose not to think of Jon as greedy or Arin as stingy though. I want to remember them as they were. Back in the good old Goof Troop days.

They don't hate the Genesis, they just can't get Arin's modded one to work.

You telling me Game Grumps doesn't have the resources to get a Sega Genesis that can do some basic video capture?

Pleeeeease.

If they really wanted to get a Genesis setup with video capture, they could.

Where are you getting this from?

If true, he kind of lied when he said he didn't care about the money in one episode beyond what he needs to live, unless of course his frequent trips to New York to see his girlfriend were killing his income.

I thought that could be a possibility as well, though the way it was worded makes it hard to tell. We know he's at least early-30s based on an interview he gave, so 37 doesn't sound too farfetched.

And they did. They talked about it during the first two or so episodes of Sega's Aladdin. Arin has a modded Genesis that was finally fixed so they could connect it to their stream setup, but it broke again recently.

Seriously. It makes no sense. Even if none of their fans have been nice enough to send one in, I'm sure if they asked for one they'd get at least a dozen.

Even if it wasn't the money, those trips eventually would need to stop. Either he moves there or she moves to him because long distance is terrible. He might have asked for more in passing just for the trips, but ultimately it made more sense for one of them to move.

I don't care either way. Danny has proven his worth and Steam Train is really good now so it's for the best. Plus we might eventually get more JonTrons eventually more eventually. Please. Eventually. (Is it selfish to want him to get back to one per week like he used to?)

So maybe they could get another one? One that isn't just totally busted?

Who knows...

Maybe Ego took a bigger cut at the beginning due to his larger following and didn't want to renegotiate? Maybe the Grumps 'secretary' is taking a cut? The drama will continue and some guy that cites no sources on a forum will not be clearing anything up. But the speculation is fun.

Not to mention the games have been emulated 50 times over with constant re-releases on XBLA/PSN/eShop/Steam. It was probably a concious choice not to play any genesis stuff. If Arin had money to buy an full blown fzero AX cab with his internet money just for the hell of it, he had more than enough to get a genesis set up.

The latest Castle Crashers Steam Train episode, Danny said he was about 10 years older than Ross.

Yeah I'm not thinking he's 37. Sounds more like my age (33).

I don't know how difficult it is to obtain a modded Genesis that Arin needs, so I can't answer that. I certainly don't get the impression that he hates Genesis games, though.

He's hardly the last person that has ever needed to capture Genesis footage. It's not impossible. They could do it. They're just not putting forth the effort.

Maybe they don't hate the Genesis but they're sure not putting forth the effort to do it.

Thought you guys may be interested, but Jon is currently on a Podcast with TotalBiscuit. I dunno if he's gonna talk about GG, but here's the link:
http://www.twitch.tv/totalbiscuit/
I very much doubt they'll discuss Game Grumps. The others on the show already know what happened and have avoided discussing it in previous podcasts. It'll just be a podcast with Jon like the other one a while back.
Jon kinda went over that he preferred scripted content over what he was doing on Grumps, but that was about it.
It's a kinda fun podcast, though.
I'd rather Jon stick to what he wants to do than force himself to do Grumps every day. It was awesome what we got but now it's different and for the better. At this point of course I'm repeating myself. Will yesterday's podcast be put up somewhere at some point? And is it worth watching that old 2012 video with him in it just for fun? Has he said anything about when we can expect him to get back into the "groove" of things? His JonTron stuff has always been amazing and I've wanted more forever.
