I was actually thinking earlier that they should all grow mustaches until the game is released.
Umm what?
Name something that Vanquish did that was new to gaming.
Skating around on your knees at 50 mph from cover to cover? That's different from the other 3rd person shooters I've played this gen. Makes the entire game play super fast.
Daniel Day Lewis?
Name a game that it inspired

Why?
Vanquish's knee slide is nothing more than your basic sprint function with Mikami's style painted over it. Try harder
Cuz what's the point of bringing anything new to the table if there is no impact?
Since when did the over-the-shoulder view mean Gears of War? Did they patent it or something?
Yeah.. I dont get the gears vibe that some people here are feeling.
And god i hope it doesn't feel like gears at the end.
If there's a heavy Gears inspiration here then that's a turn-off for me.
I hate the "Here's a bit of dialogue, now kill wave after wave of enemies" type of game.
I don't mind a "filmic", "cinematic" experience as long as there's a good bit of exploration/puzzle solving similar to the Uncharted games.
Won't get a PS4 but that cover looks really nice.
This game doesn't do anything for me. What makes it so special that everybody is clamoring up for?
The game is letterboxed?
Well there goes any interest I have in the game already.
That kind of thing is a real dumb way to get around not being native res. It makes it harder to play the game and just tosses away screen space.
Fullscreen or nothing.
It's just incredible how one comment creates pointless speculation and concern:
take it you don't watch Blu-rays?
A movie shot for a cinema screen makes sense it would be letterboxed on a 16:9 screen.
A video game? Why? Whats the benefit? Why is the game designed for a screen size that doesnt exist in the living room?

Same reason crytek choose 900p as their resolution better graphics.

Gears of War went super wide when doing the roadie run and Resistance 3 I believe.Speaking of FoVs, I don't know a game other than Vanquish which shifts FoV based on speed, it was very cool, and smart, and I believe, original.
I remember it being really low, and them blurring the edges, but I don't remember that, cool.Gears of War went super wide when doing the roadie run and Resistance 3 I believe.
I think it's you that is being obtuse. I'll try and make it clear.
Just the fact there are 'black bars', doesn't mean anything, it's the degree to which the vertical field is harmed by them that matters. RE4 had the same aspect ratio as every modern game we play.

In approximate 35mm film terms normal gunplay was around 35mm, aim down sights at 60mm while the roadie run was about 18-24mm.I remember it being really low, and them blurrng the edges, but I don't remember that, cool.
I don't think it'll be an issue, I think RAD have a pretty damn impressive track record, and I am very excited about the game.I would hope it wont quite be the same situation, cutting off the top of an existing game that was designed to use that space makes it annoying, hopefully The Order will actually take into account less visible space vertically so we aren't always aiming up and down all the time to see things.
This is a difficult distinction to make. CryTek claim no matter what, that Ryse would be 900p. That they feel that is a high enough baseline for visual fidelity that any additional performance is better spent on richer assets or finer AA, etc.Except one is entirely down to performance from a hardware perspective that then is being upscaled to fill a 1080p image, the other is has as shown been designed from the pre-production days to use the aspect ratio and is 1:1 pixel mapped to the resolution.
