Game titles you don't understand

Ok, I'm just going to google this shit.

Ar Tonelico is an artificial Yggdrasill tree.
Qoga means "termination" or "ending"
Ar Ciel is the name of the planet the game takes place one.

There, its Artificial World Tree Finale: Death of the World.

Amazing.

Project Zero - I love this series and I legit like the name but... I really don't get how it relates to the subject matter at hand. I understand that the Japanese 零 can be interpretated in different ways and Fatal Frame makes sense, Fatal with death and Frame as in a film frame. But Project Zero?

No, no, no.

SNAKE: Where are your clothes, Quiet?

QUIET: I am wearing clothes. They are only visible to the pure at heart. They are beautiful.

Snake, somberly, understands. There is not a shred of innocence left in him. He then looks dead to the camera to signify to the player that they are corrupted too. Neither of you can see Quiet's clothes because you are both racked by shame of your words and deeds. There are no clean hands in war, especially not the ones on the controller.
Can I frame this? Goodness...

I think some players just don't take the time to understand the story or read more about the game.

If you pay attention, Metal Gear explains itself.

But... I get your point. Dissidia duodecim doesn't make sense at first glance. 😅😅😅

I actually don't think this one is too bad (if a little long). The game takes place over 358 days and those days are shared between two people, Roxas and Xion
(where's Axel?)
.

The one I still don't get is Birth By Sleep. Seriously, what is that even supposed to mean?

Ventus going to sleep awakened Sora's Powers.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX

Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
.
.
.

This. It's like they purposely wanted to make it confusing.

Yes, I understand it, it's just endlessly amusing

HAHAHA

As far as I know there's no reference for what is a "Darksider" in either of the games nor is it a real word.

The writer actually explained this.

Still stupid, though.

I want to say Tokyo Mirage Sessions but it looks like they just threw a ton of words related to the game together and made it a title. And it's SMT backwards. Still really stupid though.

How'd I forget those masterpieces?

Tokyo Mirage Sessions kind of makes sense. It's set in Tokyo. Mirages are the enemies and Sessions refers to the fact that MC and other characters are entertainers so sessions can be either their "practice" sets or their performances. So basically Performance against Tokyo Mirages or something like that. It is a bit Engrish but compared to a lot of other things in the thread it's not that bad. I would same on similar level as Bravely Default perhaps.

you might refer to the collections.

The non numbered ones are self explanatory,
Wtf does 358/2 days, Birth By Sleep, and Dream Drop Distance mean, how are any of those self explanatory to anyone who's not a diehard?

Death Stranding?

I thought it meant Strand as in a thin piece of something like hair. The Mads character has strands controlling his goons and a few drift and wrap around the toy baby in the trailer. So that's where "Death Stranding" may come from... whatever those strands are, which is a parallel to a snake... Kojima's lost child, which leads back to the toy baby... and Metroid... because The Baby, THE BABY!

Right?

Are you kidding? 80% of the names generated by that site make perfect sense, and the remaining 20% would only raise a couple eyebrows. That site has nothing on the examples in this thread. :D

Injustice: Gods Among Us is the dumbest possible title for a DC Universe fighting game.

Not really, considering the game is about Superman and other members of the Justice League turning fascistic and ruling the Earth pretty much as incarnate gods.

Demon's Souls.

Whose the Demon with multiple souls? Do all of the souls belong to the Demon?

This one's really just you having a tenuous grasp of the English language.
Like, do you get how plurals and possessives work? This is grade school stuff.

Death Stranding?

So we've got "stranding" referring to the thin hair/wire objects prevalent in the trailers, and "stranding" also refers to a behavior that whales (seen in the trailers) occasionally enact wherein they beach themselves.
"Stranding" can ALSO mean to leave someone alone in a desolate location, like the surreal barren beach/desert we've seen.

So there's at least three layers here, even without going into "Death."

What was the 'Versus' in FFXV before the name change about?

Supposedly was the name of an alternate realm/reality/plane of the dead in the original draft way back when.

Somewhat supported by the spanish translation in the current game of the spell Alterna which is Versus too, and the spell itself
blasts a hole in reality and drags enemies to another realm

Xenoblade?

I know something about the producer or whatever calling his games xeno-something but still dumb since that word doesn't even drop once in the game. Could've called the game monado chronicles or something.

No, the name actually works rather elegantly. Xeno is a prefix that means stranger or foreign person or alien and every game in the series ties in to this concept. The blade in the first game is literally a sort of foreign invader. In the second game, the blade is an organization and living with aliens is a huge theme.

ima explain some things

Danganronpa. The only mention of this in the first 2 games was during the opening.

Translates to Bullet Refutal, which is appropriate since you refute people's arguments with word bullets.

Atelier Escha & Logy: Alchemists of the Dusk Sky

Stars characters called Escha and Logy, who are alchemists that run an atelier in the Land of Dusk. This particular entry in the series is focused around the sky. Escha & Logy is pronounced Eschatology in Japanese, which is a pun since the world is kinda ending.

Steins;Gate, but more in terms of punctuation than the words of the title.

No special meaning for the semicolon, but it's theme naming in the Science Adventure series. It also has Chaos;Head, Robotics;Notes, and Chaos;Child.

Plenty of BlazBlue games (Chrono Phantasma?)

Chrono Phantasma means Time Phantom, referring to some characters who are temporally misplaced. (Noel, Celica, etc.) BlazBlue itself is an artifact in the game's lore, and Extend means it's an updated version.

Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow

just 4 random word

Pandora Tomorrow is the secret word that Suhadi Sadono used to delay the release of the virus that Poindexter possessed. Everyday he called Poindexter and said "Pandora Tomorrow", the meaning was that they would "open Pandora's box tomorrow", the day that Sadono didn't call, Poindexter would open the container of the virus the following day.

One that is very normal considering the gems that many of you've written here is this Japanese game (surprise surprise) that was called "Robotics Notes", it seems kind of mysterious or at least it makes you feel curious about the story, then somebody came and said "this game title needs some punch... I know! Let's call it 'Robotics;Notes'. "

Edit: Beaten... of course.

I just got a copy from Amazon today, "Nitroplus Blasterz" makes no sense to me.

I guess the company (or game series?) is Nitroplus, but the Blasterz part doesn't fit the game at all. The Heroines Infinite Duel subtitle makes perfect sense, though... I'm just hung up on the Nitroplus/Nitro+ and Blasterz bit.

Anyway, grabbed the game because of positive word of mouth. I'm only actually familiar with Saber from Fate and Akane from Psycho Pass in the entire lineup. Gonna try it out tonight.

I still don't get why InFAMOUS: Second Son is called that. The only things I can think of is that it's literally because Delsin is the "second son" after Reggie (which is dumb) or that Delsin is the "second son" after Cole...? First Light makes sense but Second Son has lost me.

I believe because Delsin was seen as the younger brother who is reckless, immature, always getting into trouble, etc in comparison to his older prominent brother who is a cop, kinda second in importance after his successful brother. Things changed when this underdog got super powers though

those streetfighter titles

it's so dumb they even made dlc to make fun of it

Almost all the anime games I see pop up in thread titles here, haha.

Is the title incomprehensible to me? Then it's almost always a game with an anime artstyle.

Code: Realize – Guardian of Rebirth

I imagine the second part has something to do with story, but I don't know how Code:Realize would ever make sense.

No dropping spoilers if it becomes obvious. Still playing it.

But what's up with The Last Guardian? Is the boy the guardian? Is Trico the guardian? I MUST KNOW.

I want to say Tokyo Mirage Sessions but it looks like they just threw a ton of words related to the game together and made it a title. And it's SMT backwards.

You're blowing my mind 0_0

Why "Zeroes"? What was so wrong with Ground Zero?

Because the things that happen in Ground Zeroes affect every character in the storyline and changes them. Like Boss, Ocelot, Miller, Emmerich even Zero ;) So there are many Ground Zeroes - not only one.

Would be my explanation.

Uncharted is a pretty confusing title after the first game, considering how the series continues to tread the same ground over and over!
