Its funny that I just went on that site this morning for a walkthrough on SH:O (probably one of my top worst Silent Hill games now) and it wasn't until just now that the design changed.

Overall I don't see a problem with it, and at least it looks a little bit more presentable. I thought the old one looked like just a whole bunch of text, but this one looks more colorful now.

Yeah, you can clearly see that it's the same team that re-built Giantbomb. Same menus, "* New" icon, search bar, etc.

Looks great. Scales very well. Very updated but at the same time laid out similar to before.

Complaining about the layout on stuff like game pages seems irrelevant. Sure the redesign didn't improve it, but it's the same layout as before. I can see nothing better about the old design compared to this.

Speaking from experience, most of the time web designers don't have a good grasp of what users are using versus what they don't like. And most of the time they don't ask either.

It's also not good to predicate a lot of changes based on the vocal minority either.

Looks slightly more modern with round edges and some fonts from this century but I wouldn't call it a massive overhaul.

I think it looks alright. It does look more modern now; the site looked decent, but very dated compared to other modern sites. It looks like the site's as functional as ever, it just looks different. They may have spaced search results out more, and I'm not sure if I like that, but overall, it's a fine redesign I think. No removed functionality, fortunately.

That's because I don't think they had significantly changed the site's look since well before 2003.

Edit- Everything loads really fast, I love these minimalist designs. Even though it might look 'ugly' it's a lot better than big flashy sites with images and shit all over the place like ign. Just my opinion

Yeah, the old late '90s design was kind of charmingly dated, but the new one's not bad; they didn't remove anything, unlike way too many redesigns that remove features in favor of unnecessary "simplicity".

What was broken by this update functionally? It's rough in parts but I haven't found anything significantly different (other than breaking some user skins/addons).

definetly giantbomb engineers and influence. for example when you resize your window it will automatically change the header and layout something that giantbomb.com did after their redesign. lots of similar design cues.

This looks great. I've got NeoGAF on the pro dark theme (it's a user script) because it's easier on the eyes. I wish every site had an option for that.

I was an avid forum user during the PSP days. It seemed to have a real good community on GameFAQs there for that system. Going into the PS3 forum was a little more dangerous. DS forums were tough at times on my patience as well.


When the 3DS came out, the forums were awful. It about killed my Gaming Forum usage. I figured I had completely outgrown it. But I held out for Vita. For the Vita forums, I could not even make it to release date. The kids (or adults with little respect for others) was more than my patience could stomach. I wouldn't get mad or rage, but it was just so much garbage. A waste of time to read. I was searching for a new home, and that's how I found NeoGAF in 2010. Before then, I had not realized there was a larger more central gaming message board. Since the IGN and Vault forums surely weren't the answer.



--That being said, I use the site at times for FAQs as others have stated. The android app FAQr (I think that's the name) is great for saving your spot in a faq like a bookmark.

One thing I do miss, is the individual game forums. I know we have OT threads that go to the community forum, but it's really not the same to just bust up into a 30page thread.

I really like fairly lightweight forums like GameFAQs and GAF, so I'm ok with this. Not like they allowed obnoxious image signatures or anything.

Some of the links/buttons were moved though and it's throwing me off, lol.

Looks like GameFAQs with a slightly more modern look. I'm fine with that. Also, it seems that it's finally usable on mobile, that's a big plus since that's where I go to for most of my FAQ needs. GameFAQs always sucked a little on my phone.

Though, the huge txt guides are only of limited use when you use a browser like Safari that doesn't has a search function.

I like how GameFAQ's allows users to pick their own website design, they can go as far back as the early 2000's and have it be as if nothing has changed since then.
