Sorry, I don't mean to be retarded, but where are you guys seeing the pics? I've looked through the thread and don't see links anywhere...
We all subscribe to Game Informer. Go out to Safeway and pick one up yourself.

The controls definitely seem interesting, and a step up in intuitiveness from the standard controller control scheme. i can't wait to see some of the other ways the revmote is utilized in this game. i'd also like to see support for dual revmotes.

SOemthing brought in another forum ;)

The cursor looks like it moves. So it looks like its on rails, unless you can somehow move the view independantly from the crosshair? How would that work?
Hold a button to go into "weapon" mode. This allows you to use the revmote to control your gun. Release the button to go into "cursor" mode, which allows you to move the cursor to interact with different objects. This could be inverted so that you're normally in weapon mode and have to press a button to go into cursor mode.

Just an idea.

Time Splitters 2 style controls in Time Splitters 3 has the crosshair moving quite a bit when you're moving around. Then of course you can hold down a shoulder button for more precise aiming. It's clearly not lightgun-esque.

If it is indeed a launch title, it furthers my idea that there's no need for Metroid Prime 3 to make launch, unless other Nintendo games don't look like making it.

Holy shit, forgot about Prime 3 entirely, I was playing Metroid Prime the other day and I forgot how good the graphics and art direction was. If Ubi can make the Rev pump out graphics like in the scans, I drool just thinking about what Retro can do with it.

Anyway, back to this game. The controls...they CAN'T work as simply as some people have said. Yeah, when using a gun you could just move the screen and the crosshair at the same time with the revmote and it's no problem. But when using a sword, you're going to be swinging it all over the place but you'll have NO desire for the screen to be following that or you won't even be able to see the enemy. So they must have something else worked out, maybe some form of lock on? Not to aim a weapon, just to stay facing the enemy. I dunno, the article probably says but cameras are too complicated for some.

There are still secret Rev functions.

Also, whats to say when the sword is out you don't look around when moving the Revmote, and when you hold down the trigger you go into a mode where you lock onto the other swordsman and you dual it out.

Hmm... the controls sound like this:

Controls:

Revmote: Moves crosshair - crosshair target = "z-target"
Left Analog:
left & right: circle strafes around crosshair target
forward & back: moves toward/away from crosshair target

When not moving, the crosshair can be moved around without moving the screen.
When you push forward on the left analog, the crosshair gets moved to the middle as the screen scrolls towards the target (crosshair still points at the same thing).

How could online deathmatch or splitscreen multiplayer ever work on a game on rails?

I can easily see that working. "Rails" with some "branches". A "branch" would be pointing the revmote at a overturned table and you move to that position.

Or say your in a car parking lot, on the left side of the screen there is a van, on the right a truck. To move to a different area you have the choice of either the van or truck only.

Looks pretty close to Rainbow Six Vegas minus the shader effects.

Definitely far better looking than I thought. Really psyched about the gameplay possibilities.

Can you say, Revolver Ocelot?

Uh, and minus a crap load of character detail.

Apparently someone from high up on the ign rev boards say its not touched up. Take that any which way you want but please dont rape my ass.

"High up"? That guy is in marketing.

[screwed up my earlier post]

revmotetop.jpg

A quick mockup I made to show how the top of the controller has changed from earlier shots. Probably doesn't mean anything but.

Imagine multiplayer, one hit kills, pistols (yes, like goldeneye). When you run out of ammo you run in, arm swinging, pistol whipping like a mad man.

Look, it's 100% confirmed that the game is NOT on rails. Not at all. The article calls it an FPS game, and they even talk about how natural strafing around targets feels. Ok, so it's not on rails, we can stop saying it now, right?

I hope there is some way to attack behind you using the Revmote.
This way I could actually perform an "Aft Dread Pressure". :lol

and the "Donkey punch" will come to homes near you!!!! :) :lol

You can't really blame people for saying this. They see a shooting game for the Revolution, and naturally assume that you're just holding the wand and killing things, like House of the Dead.

It looks too good for the revolution... it must be on rail.

WOW!

I said it! Looks much nicer than I'd expected. Judging by a lot of the feedback, others agree. I want to see this in motion.

As for the controls I'm thinking it will be fairly simple although perhaps not easy to explain. You point somewhere and your cursor zips to that point. If the cursors position on the screen meets certain criterion, or exceeds certain extremeties then the camera follows. So if you point somewhere nearby fast, the cursor goes there, and the view follows -- but eases into place. If you point somewhere extreme, the camera catches up quicker.

Like someone else said -- sort of how GoldenEye and Timesplitters handle a floaty cursor/camera.

WTF PEOPLE

The game is not on rails! You use the analog stick for movement, and the revmote works as a mouse/c-stick basically.

:lol pretty basically :lol

Revolution is the new gameplay paradise. NOW, 3D GAMING IT'S GONA BE GREAT.:D

When you push forward on the left analog, the crosshair gets moved to the middle as the screen scrolls towards the target (crosshair still points at the same thing).

I believe, there is a deadzone, so when you move the Crosshair slightly, the screen won't move, but when you approach the screen borders or move quickly, the screen turns. Easy.

Metroid Hunter's Crosshair moves also (no deadzone thingy tho)

I wonder how this is going over in japan... first Revo game shown is a foriegn developed FPS. Any impression over at 2ch? I saw a mention of it, but my understanding is far too limiting to gauge it.

EDIT:
4 Player Max-Multi-Play Support

WHAT THE FUCK. please please please let that be in reference to coop-play :(

RED STEEL (REV): *GI* Feauture (Quotes):

“In many situations, there will be a higher-ranking enemy who commands the others in the area. By defeating him, and sparing his life, he will offer you his respect, and help. The enemies will surrender their guns, and the boss may offer you a new weapon, a special path, or another reward. Any time you spare an enemy, you will be rewarded. As it always takes more skill to spare a life, than to take it”

“Although the majority of Red Steel’s gameplay will stress ranged combat, there will be times you need to get up close, and personal. You can switch to the sword at any time, and if you can get close enough to an enemy, you can use it for one-hit stealth kills. In other moments you’ll find yourself locked into intense one-on-one sword duels.”

Also notice something about a "Freeze Shot Mode", and "4 Player Max-Multi-Play Support"

Nice!

I was not sure about getting a Rev, but this definitely looks like a visible step up from the GC.

"Freeze shot adds a lot of depth to the gunplay and is a natural fit for the revolution controller" (GI). I wonder if this mode explains the reticule-on-the-side-of-the-screen thing?

I have to apologize to Nintendo, after seeing the Rev's specs on Ign, I thought the games would look like Halo 2 at best, but Red Steel clearly surpasses it

First thing that quote reminded me of

we know so little and yet already this game sounds insanely innovative, I hope they leave some gameplay for other developers.

So is the Revolution a baby step into VR? You move your arm, the arm on the screen moves- imagine all the other stuff that could be possible.(With various attachments no doubt)

Who needs a helmet. ;p

lol. hay guys i think its on rails!!1
also you will gte tired aftre 5 mintues becaus u alwyas have 2 wave yur arms!!11 lolz

agreed ... Revolution games must be handicapped in some ways.

No, I missed the confirmation.

Well, thats great news. This game absolutley destroys anything FPS style on for gaming consoles. I totally want a Revolution now.

I can't wait to see what Retro has in store for MP3

I said bring it motherfuckers :)

Just wait to play, or at least to read some reports.

As everyone reported for the Echoes Demo, isn't needed great efforts to play.

So, do those Screens make the specs that Matt released a little fishy to anyone else? Or is it just me?

At least about the shaders. I don't see why Nintendo can't add them. It's not THAT expensive.

That controller could have been one of the uglier development ones that IGN mentioned.

will the graphics improve on launch time? isn't the final rev kits being released in a couple of months?

Wow- 1st revolution screenshots and and game gets revealed on my last day of classes before graduation, and the day of my unbanning! Awesome.

Oh, and the screenshots dont look like shit, which was the only thing I was afraid of. About the game mechanics, it sounds too awesome to comment on, but the potential seems amazing.

now you've got it: fuck unreal and all the others, you have to aim with the thumbstick and you can't lob grenades by imitating an underhanded throw.
