Well it's not entirely true. I mean how many times have xbox fans presented as a proof of 360's graphical superiority heavily photoshopped pics? Just the Gears of War pics are proof enough. On the other hand if someone shows anything PS3 related (well except MGS4) even screencaptures from games like Lair which is proven to be realtime people start yelling "fake pics". And that's what happening now with Red Steel.

All screenshots are touched up anyway, except Nintendo's.

I just had to compare the GCN game to the DS game in screens. :-/
you realise this is not the same game, do you?

:lol If anything Nintendo releases worse looking pics that they actually are. Seriously what's wrong with this company?
wow. what's going on with all those bizarre posts in a row.

Um, yeah because Nintendo ports Gamecube games to DS. I was talking about the overall image qualties of released media for a GCN console game and a DS handheld game. Whats your point, anyway? spit it out.

Edit: bah, I re-edited original post so as not to label the games in a definitive clause to avoid unnecessary confusion

Why? Haven't you noticed that every Nintendo developed game actually looks better in motion than the pics released for it from Nintendo? Don't make me search for examples plz.

The game looks better than this on GC.

It is a leaked material of Mario on Rev you see in this screenshot.

Why are we talking about Mario screens anyway? Everyone knows there just gona cel shade the new mario. Think of how beautiful itd look then. Or at least I hope they do! :)

thought this was supposed to be a mario 64 ds/64 comparison.
anyway, the sms screen was clearly taken by ign and as usual it looks like crap (not that the actual game looks that amazing). nintendo is very much able to release good looking screenshots though (see twilight princess) and they're even 'touched up' at times (if you consider an impossibly high resolution 'touched up', that is).

this just in: almost every game looks better in motion than in screenshots. also: twilight princess screenshots released by nintendo look awesome.

this is a real screenshot as it would be rendered by your very own console at home (sans the IGN watermark and jpeg compression artifacts of course)

this is not

Is there still debate about whether those "screens" are actual dumps straight from the frame buffer (i.e. real screenshots)? I thought it was generally accepted that most "screens" in magazines (especially in big centre-piece articles like this, that need to look as polished as possible) are manufactured by the developer because print media requires a higher DPI for images to look any good on paper? So the shots are rendered at a higher resolution than they would be on a system at home.

Could someone confirm that what I'm saying is correct? I'm not entirely sure myself to be honest... I may have misinterpreted bits of information here and there.

I think we should just wait until video hits in terms of a graphics discussion. There's no changing video...at least not in any way that isn't immediately obvious.

some of the biggest debates over legitimacy of graphics have been on video. and what i was describing is probably the easiest "fake" to achieve in video footage.

this just in: Only Nintendo developed games look that bad on screencaptures. The difference is huge. It's like Nintendo is doing that on purpose. Also read Rocked's post.

Right, but for a Revolution video, don't you really need to show the player in order to understand [edit lol @ my dyslexia] the concept fully ? For a company to FAKE coordinated movement along with in-game video would be quite ridiculous, don't you think?

Rocked said:
Actually it wasn't. It was released on Nintendo's Japanese homepage.
oh teh noes. pwned if that's true. ign screenshots usually look horrible and with the watermark i was so sure this was taken by ign. ah well, they have yet to reach an ea low i guess.

now that is certainly not true.

April 20 is when I hear third party NDAs end. This is according to Paladin67 on the IGN boards. I believe him since IGN user TazedSoul AKA Phillip Levin of Advance Media Network also mentioned that something might happen on April 20.

Apparently, this month's Edge's cover feature are interviews with Miyamoto, Harrison and Moore. They're probably GDC, but lets see if they bring anything interesting, subscribers are getting their copies today.

It will be interesting to see how the press & other developers react to the Revolution software at E3...and whether this affects their coverage of the games on other machines. As a gamer, even the possibilities of Revolution (and some of these Red Steel details) have already killed a lot of enthusiasm I had for other titles that are on the PC or other consoles. I'm more interested in the possibilities of Eyetoy2 (which I suspect are vastly different to Revmote) than MGS4 with DualShock3 :(

The mere "grenade" news from the Red Steel impressions makes it cristal clear that the Revolution is opening gaming to a new world of interactions. A bowling game would be great following this concept. If these impressions are real, it's almost certain Revolution is going to be huge. Kids will soon drop pads and request the magic wand. Adults will invite friends to play bowling at home. Such things will happen. And E3 will be the event when everybody realize it.

Thanks man.. sounds good.

I'm looking forward to this next month.

The control sounds awesome but is it really? I mean maybe it won't be as intuitive and slick as it sounds. The game itself looks really promising: open-ended, yakuza themed FPS with close range combat. I just hope the control will really work out.

I don't see how one can doubt it. I mean, I'm not saying it's set in stone, but it's harder to say it's bad than it is to say it's amazing, at this point. And that's BEFORE all the raving from everyone who's touched the damn thing.

That said, the golden phrease is: Wait until you use it yourself.

I think the problem with a bowling game would be feedback. I'm not sure if it could ever be realistic enough....

Though realism in gaming is a great goal, it is definitely an overrated one, if I wanted to play real Ten Pin Bowling I would.

I can just imagine it now though, Super Mario Bowling lol :)

Okay then. Agreed. I'm sure bowser would be the center pin and would intermittently breathe fire as you tried to bowl him down. lolz.

I'm half joking and half not - DARTS

I can see the broken tv screen thanks to a wayward revmote lawsuits now

:lol

Im starting to see a new Adult Party Game emerge, Bowling, Darts, Pool, Snooker :)

Maybe it could be called NintenPub!

:lol

It could have some real-time effects too, such as if you lose a round, your on screen character slowly becomes drunker, and you slowly lose control over your senses, or in this case, control over the controller,

There should be lots of -
"my hands not shaking like that" moments to stuff your gameplay up, or the screen could go blurry like mine every weekend. :)

But why in two of the shots there are the same two enemies in the same exact positions, also making apparently no sense context-wise?

Although they're not in the exact same positions, it is somewhat strange. They also look nothing like Yakuza gang members.

Nintendo won the war.

the game is meant to begin in LA or some location in the USA.

I think someone should put DarkPhoenix summary on page 1.

I think I agree, not sure it'll happen since he didn't create the thread, though.
