Whatever GamerGate stood for when it began is cloudy. I never paid attention to it, so Idk. Someone people claim the intentions weren't at all malicious and everything became fucked, others claim it was a shitshow from the start.
My point being, these people, whichever group they think they apart of, whatever cause they think they stand for, they're just assholes. It's not gamergate, it's not whatevergate, it's "assholes that think they stand for something."

The accusation and the proof are two separate things. The accusation is enough for Gaters but most reasonable people want the other.

It's awful and I don't condone it as a fellow animal owner/lover, but really it has nothing to do with "SJWs", journalism ethics and whatnot. It's just obviously a means to defame someone opposed to them.

She's never shown any evidence of being a pedophile and has stated she regretted acting that way online in those IRC logs that are over a decade old. She was young and acted stupid online, what a game-changer :/

I'm sure most of the people criticizing her for this shit probably posted stuff just as awful on /b/ at some point in their life.
She doesn't deny the chat logs being hers. I'm not pro-pedo, but she wanted to have sex with a relative under age. Was fixated on the idea and talked about it in detail with other people interested in kids aged 7-9 years old. Theer is no law against these thoughts so there was no legal action taken.
If you can say " Hey I probably takled about wanting to molest kids 10 years ago, sorry about that, I'm all good now." It's far from normal.
Not to mention hinting about literal CP. Again, not normal.

People say foolish things online with their name attached to it. It's not okay and we can certainly hold people to task who make inconsiderate, disrespectful, immoral, crass, damaging, and hurtful statements.
While saying something in the quoted IRC chat logs is not acceptable, it does not immediately mean somebody is a pedophile, a child stalker, or mean they deserve to have the entirety of their life based on said fucked up statements.
What was said, was said. A legit reflection since then has occurred by the offending party. Personal changes in attitude have happened based on that person's life experiences. Nobody was in any real or even perceived danger.
They point isn't "it's completely okay for people to be edgelords on the internet" the point is "sometimes people say stupid stuff for dumb reasons, realize it was dumb, and shouldn't have their life ruined over it." Based on Sarah's discussion on the topic, I'm willing to bet it was a stupid kid being a stupid kid, just on the internet so it exists forever.
Either way, emailing people threats regarding their job is unacceptable.
